    Thanks for the links. I just noticed the number of women when I scanned the list and thought it a little odd, since I (apparently wrongly) thought it was mostly a male oriented genre.

    Will include Williams and Kress in my next Amazon batch.

    In addition I do not believe this story at all. The whopper "Geting control software with pre arranged datapoints" Who in their right mind would write such code let alone install it.

    With data hardwired it most certainly could not be used anywhere else.

    Before you spout more junk maybe you want to avail yourselves of some information.

    The virus is written in Russia as a mail relay vehichle. They are just using the SCO issues as a foil, and indeed it worked on you. There even is an apology inside the virus from the author stating that he is just doing his "job"

    Now Hang your head in shame.

    Sure there is events that "predicts" superbowl with amazing accuracy. If you don't believe me just send a message to your 1024 closest friends and tell half that the A team will win and other B team.

    Do this for 8 years and four of your friends thinks you are a genius and the remaining 1020 have forgotten the whole thing.

    This works with stock tips and is a scam that has been used for ages.

    I for one read the story at Groklaw last night when it was posted, second the is Mirrors posted, Third site with text in Html, Txt and Pdf, fourthly some AC posted the whole article as a comment.

    I am sure you want your manuals but why should I and the other 95% pay for that. Sell a detailed manual as extra and whomever want it can buy it for the full cost.

    A vibrant after market is not a bad business strategy.

    IN addition to what you mention security is a MAJOR TCO component when MS is making a spiel for why people need to upgrade from MS Server 2000 to 2003.

    Yet strangely or rather not so strangely missing when comparing to Linux.

    One would have thought it is equally important regardless of platforms used, but aparently not.

    I think it would be a good idea, so Linux folks could at least try it. Googled for it but didn't succed.

    If SCO do as you suggest they are liable for tortuous interference. The numbers surrounding the Google IPO is huge and if SCO meddles with it they will be liable. Damages will be orders of magnitude of what they can ever get in any bestcase outcome in the suit against IBM.

    Go after Google and they will counter sue. One thing they will ask the courts is to put a lien on any damages award from IBM.

    Remember the IBM suit is contract not Copyright so they could get something from IBM and still have zip against Linux.

    Cast your mind back to MS' behaviour during trail period.

    Not in court but in the market place. Clearly the trail itself was more of a punishment than the imposed "penalty"

    Maybe the same will happen in Europe. They will be forced to play nice for 5 years. Enough time for Linux on desktop to gain a significant market share, and for OpenOffice to be so significant that .doc documents is no longer accepted as an interchange vehichle.

    If that happens the Mission would be accomplished regardless of outcome.

    What he should do is file a class action suit on behalf of the worlds population for trade impediments and collision.

    The DVD regional settings are clearly implemented to hinder and obstruct free trade.

    File in Hague for a delta cost times all the DVD's ever sold. Works out to more than $100B. assuming 15% mark-up in non-1 regions.

    Add collusion by the DVD makers like Philips, Sony etc and make them liable individually for total amount.

    This has a non trivial chance of succeeding and will if nothing else get enough publicity to at least stop this nonsense.

    Good point, I think your are right on the Linux portion and that is encouraging. For Win Pirates I doubt it, maybe people have old Windows versions that they feel they can transfer or site licenses for business that are going to install a custom version anyway.

    I didn't visit the site nor RTFA, just tried to be amusing. ;-)

    Motorola is a serious fucked-up company and they have two Major strategies on handsets. Linux and MS. The MS strategy is really financed by MS and it was a desperate move by both. Motorola and MS had anywhere to go in this market, so they found each other for a while. Moto will contunie to make MS phones for a while until linux is good enough. Zander the new CEO was a staunch Linux supporter at Sun in case you dodn't know.

    You might very well be right on Nokia but they are regarded as the MS of Handsets and the other guys Notably Japan Inc plus Samsung is afraid of using Symbian.

    The momentum for the Non-Nokia world favors Linux so they will win and the rest will fall in line, if nothing else for cost reasons.

    The battle will be at Application level and Java has a strong position there. The underlaying OS will be somewhat irrelevant, again favoring the Free / free alternative.
