From time to time I have to go to IE or Netscape. Being a bif fan on the mouse gestures, I'm constantly finding myself drawing D to close the tab (which there isn't), or L to back. My next thought is usually, "oh, I should install it here too:)"
Straight from the article: Microsoft has yet to release a comprehensive fix for Download.Ject, but the company is providing customers with "prescriptive guidance to help mitigate these issues" on the Microsoft.com Web site, he said
something like the average user learning that there *gasp* can be other thingies to browse the net? Dear god where will that lead...:)
What's next, them demanding more rights in the OSS movement?:)
It is quite obvious that he whole system will break at some point. Either:
1: we have all the patents on every single patentable thing in the computer industry you can imagine.
2: we have patents on every single imaginable thing but with a limited life span. Let say 2 years, you hit the market and extract profits. it's not like you need 5 years to build a factory and another 10 to start your find all those horses to distribute your good.
3: patent free, pay for the service of using. although this is the dream of linux admins,it won't be happening in the near future. some level of patenting must exist. companies with too much money who own lawyers with oto much free time won't allow it.
Now... the interesting thing here is that everyone started patenting stupid things. hey, patent offices allowed it... which no matter what you think about the moral side of it, at least you have to agree that it is good. simply because once the process started, it will lead to patenting incredible stupid things, which in turn will piss more important people off, and the balance will swing away. while that is in progress, who knows, maybe some hard inovation will folow to counteract it. hey, it might be a good thing.
on the other hand, you might be thinking that the 'prior art' concept will help you... you are wrong. once patent is granted... you can be screwed for years until proven that prior art existed. for which time, you'll probably abandon the project anyway.... or pay large fees...
I have to ctrl+- each time to refresh the thing after loading the page. I'm having 0.8 under linux and 0.9 on my windows machine, same problem persists on both of them.
That and it doesn't renders "windows 1251" charset properly.
What, users moving to gentoo is a strange phenomen to you? Hey, it happens, we like it, and we are proud about that. Installation sucks, but afterwards it's a smooth journey.
Is the consumers software industry slowing down? OR is it just the giants that are stagnating because they don't want decreased profots? On an unrelated topic, something like the RIAA example of not knowing how to deal with all the innovation comming in.
On the other hand, Linux may commercialize, gain momentum and start having all the risks the windows market have. But, by the way how things are set up right now. At least I can control what goes into my source/applicaiton tree.
Actually,I was just beign sarcastic. I love firefox. It pisses me off that it cannot render a few foreign languages properly, and even this/. page. But non the less, I'll stick with it. The last time I tried IE on a new machine and VISITED a web site, I got spyware installed.
Court:This is a resounding victory for the Justice Department and American consumers. The Court addressed the merits of every argument raised against the Department's remedy by two industry groups and the sole remaining state plaintiff (Massachusetts), and it clearly and thoroughly rejected all of them. The Court's forceful decision confirms what the Department has been saying all along - our settlement protects the public by providing a full and effective remedy for Microsoft's anticompetitive conduct.
MS: "We remain 100 percent committed to fulfilling our obligations under the settlement and earning the trust of our customers and the industry," Smith said. "We are excited about the potential our industry has to bring new innovation into people's lives and help them realize their full potential."
My comments: In order to see what a real inovation is, one has to compare firefox's mouse gestures to Ie's SP2. I mean, who gives a damn about mouse whatnot, we don't want viruses, right?
But I actually don't care since I switched to Gentoo..
"debian" - only 1 result
"gentoo" - full page of results but cannot go to the second page no matter how many times I hit next, on the 4 hitting NEXT it returns "no results found", WTF???
"redhat" - full page everything ok
"linux vs windows" - some times full screen of data, some time hitting search returns "no results found", this is interesting
"ms office" - only one link
"microsoft office" - full page of links
"linux is better than windows" - full page, ok
"is linux better than windows" - full page , ok

BTW I found this rant on why windows sux:), also found this funny page, be sure to check it out:) from the authors: "Why microsoft shouldn't own a fast food company. At mc donalds they ask 'would you like fries with that'. At the microsoft fast food chain they ask, 'Do you want any more bugs with that'"
After 25 tries of "cannot process your query", I got : "Sorry, no results were found containing "windows is bad", fishy.
And of course, the entry 'longhorn' returns and entry titled "Longhorn from India, Longhorn for the.NET developer":)) Now we know.

Why don't those guys start trying out NEW ideas instead of endless XYZ pacman/tetris/whatnot variations and tons of chrome. I mean, it's damn pacman, it's the idea that counts, who cares about the rest, it's PLAYABLE.
Instead, they've got blocky graphics, tinny sound and bizarre objectives. And despite their rudimentary look, these games have inspired an almost manic need to play them
Because when you know for a fact that you have 4 colors and less than 100 pixels on an axis, your mind will start thinking how playable you can make it. When you have 1600x1200 on a 100fps, 48bits w alpha and a graphic card which beats most PC's computational power, you mostly think how to fill all of that for a 'real-life' gaming experience. Well, if I wanted real gaming experience, I would go and play waterpolo or football, not pc 'real games'
It is, but sometimes it's just nice to see an ad, I'm serious. For example, you need something and you didn't knew about it until you saw the ad (herbal medicine excluded). Or you'll just have a faint smile seeing ads where windows beats linux in speed on the server side by nn times and think: "This is/., do they really thing people would go with it?" But then people will click to see what the claim is, so i counts as a hit doesn't it?
Ads are somewhat good if they are unobtrusive and, of course, if you can turn them off.

After years of windows, I switched to linux, that's sort of evidence to me. I might not be the average user, but it's the number that counts right?
I still use windows sometimes for specific tasks (wmware is too expensive, wine doesn't cut it for some things), but generally I'm more satisfied with Linux, it works, it's in constant development (I like that, every often you have new features and you don't have to wait much for bug fixes), and it does EXACTLY what I'll tell it to. I test something cpu intensive, shut everything else down. I want my mail, kmail serves the purpose.
There is a saying that bussiness (project) which doesn't grow is doomed. 'emerge sync' tells me that my Gentoo grows on a daily basis, nice feeling:) One day it will be a big Penguin, but it will grow, maybe it will transform to fit the new sea of computer then. Who knows, but for now, there is some real inovation going on (and I'm not refering just to new media player with more chrome in).
