It always sucks when that happens, especially to our "kind", but you got to wonder how many got what they deserve.
If you were a developer and hadn't turned towards the darkside, you should have been looking elsewhere (maybe IBM?) If you stayed because you thought they had a chance, I guess sco thought you didn't. Jobs are still tought to come by, but no developer/techie/IT, et al at sco should have been surprised by this--they had over a year to prepare.
If you were in marketing/sales and didn't know any better, well that's marketing for you and you can thank the lawyer who has now replaced you.
How can tis be modded insightful...may inspiteful would be better, This is just one person's experience and maybe one that shows lack of experience.
Have I tried all the games listed above? No, but I can run 1600x1200 all features on in CS and even with smoke I get 100 fps (the max CS allows) on my ATI 9800
Splinter Cell---looks great, no "PSX-era crap"
The only thing I like better from Nvidia is its dual head driver support. ATI's hydravision keeps getting better, but Nvidia is king there IMHO
Well using Java NIO I've had very decent network performance results. I can't speak if the network was 100% utilized 100% of the time on how well it would handle the load, but I suspect that you couldn't either.
Plus how many ISPs provide 100mbps connections?
Then we'll see how many people (especially/. readers) think this is a good idea.
Let's see, a whole week sans computer, what would you miss: 1. 3 reposts of the same story on/. 2. 100 Windows security updates 3. Update of linux keneral to 2.6.1000 4. 1000 music downloads 5. 10 C & D letters related to sourceforge projects
But if he is trying to performance tune, tune load balancing and test failover especially on systems that may be horizontally and vertically scaled, vmware isn't going to cut it. You need the actual hardware....but for inter OS testing and just "playing" around with other OSes, vmware is awesome
Better be careful with those-- you might end up cloning or producing something via a prototype pattern. In fact to maximize interaction, yet remain your own man, best to use the tried and true "visitor" pattern.
Here's a case where the sw/technologies were okay and at times even fun to work with, but also where we had such a clueless customer (their PMs, programmers, etc.) that dealing with them was just plain painful. So much so that it overshadowed the joy of design and development. "Uses cases, requirements, building something that actually works? Are you sure we are talking about the same project?"
Now if you're a good time waster and a "yes man" then it may be a place for you; maybe even the best sw development job.
...terrorists sue you. Some coward cherry bomber blows his head off attempting to kill people and his family sues you for not being the intended victim. I know there are lawyers who would take this case (well they might be too busy with SCO right now, but afterwards)
Could it lead to content middle men (cable pimps?) that can by channels "in bulk" and then put together finer grained programming options?
Possible packages: --./ reader package: scifi, techtv, all pr0n channels --sports package: espn, espn2, espn(n+1), all pr0n channels --stay at home mom package: qvc, hsn, tlc, all pr0n channels --stay at home dad package: all pr0n channels
Well we see what' in common don't we, stay at home dads don't watch sports:)
All kidding aside, it would be nice to have finer grained options, but as a previous poster mentioned, we will probably just end up paying more per channel.
What I would also love is for the NAB to allow us to very "locals" from other markets....it would enable me to get 24/7 Simpsons coverage
In regards to a previous post and "not having the gov tell them what to do", that's almost what many of the mindless drones here in the US have demanded because we've become to lazy to think for ourselves. We have the V-chip, we now have the FCC telling us what we can/can not hear, the list goes on....are people too lazy to turn the channel/station.
So now our "values" are threatened, watch out because soon the drones will demand that the gov tell us what our values are and then have them imposed it on us. Thanks but no thanks, the non-drones (darn I say/. readers) want to think for ourselves.
"No child left behind == No child gets ahead"... just what the drones want so that we all can agree to have equal values...their values.....bah I say

mutually exclusive....Nah...you can still do both at the same time, it's just easier with a wireless keyboard and mouse
Well at least it is not self promoting....search for mozdex on Mozdex and you get not mozdex as the first hit
From one photographer to some others, nice pics from both of you....how you ever got that angle of the ISS I'll never know :) Nice work
A common ground for techies and mom at last
I know my mom collects a bunch of Swarovski dust collectors. I know what she's getting for Mother's Day this year.
I thought Common Criteria was something already is use to address some of these issues.

Ha I had a diesel rabbit (aka "The Turtle")....by 4th gear you were doing a blazing 20 mph

No matter what the sw was used for, if it was developed using TDD, then the poor souls probably had to watch the movie 100+ times
