    As an aside, I do occasionaly need to use IE for cr@ppily encoded sites - maybe this stat can be interpreted as an increase in cr@ppy websites is driving macbook users to use parallels/IE for browsing ...

    Why is something that gobbles up power & sounds like a lawn mower considered attractive to people ? I'd rather have something quiet & efficient. Are games really needing this type of power ?

    I can imagine plenty of business uses for a box like this, however is the home draw for this very big ? If so, is it purely the "pimp my PC" crowd that goes for this ?

    Just curious.

    Rental schemes in the music industry have yet to take off (Napster? Yahoo music?). iTunes provides ownership, which I think is a cause of it's popularity ...

    Absolutely - movie reviews on their own have the potenial to be biased or shill-work.

    However if you average enough reviews together an overal vision of how good or bad a movie is comes forward - I rottentomatoes every movie that I think of seeing (apart from Star Wars - let's not get crazy), and 9 times out of 10 I'm glad I waited for the movie to come out on video.

    Movies today are rubbish, and with rottentomatoes I don't risk popping down $10 for cr@pola on the off chance it'll be good.

    Not all iMac midplane failures are equal

    ... however the volume of a single issue being seen is massive for a company with relatively good quality control. Other major issues also exist with the G5 - I'm only flagging this because the first one stung me after 5 months of use.

    There's already a seperate set of suits against apple for being twits to their resellers - this one is a class action for consumers. The thing that is a bit whiffy to my nose here is that the class action is being organized by the same group that represents the resellers, which to me says that this is either:
    • a smear campaing to make apple look bad in the public's eyes
    • a cash grab at apple because their business is booming
    ... I'm not surprised that Steve Jobs isn't the kind and nurturing type when it comes to his resellers, and I'm sure they're ticked off, and there may well be cause to sue in that area, however I'm not sure this specific action has much merit.

    Truth be told, if the "apple zealot" level on Slashdot is any indcator, Apple didn't have any users before the iMac G5 (-;

    The lawyers are also already representing several aggrieved current and former Apple-authorized resellers who have sued the company in separate actions.
    ... and TellOnApple is a smear campaign by those self-same ex-resellers you're probably dead on the money ...

    Can someone hilight the securuty features in word? I'm not trolling, I'm serious. The only mention of Word and security I know of comes from cases where Word has shown more than it intended.

    I mean, for crying out loud, how desperate are Apple-lovers to find out what Jobs is peddling this January? Mocking up a grill to look like a computer - this takes the "internet appliance" concept too literally. This is the second "headless iMac" photo leak I've seen, and I think it's even less believable than the first one. I mean, where are the RCA jacks? WHERE??!!?

    Come on people, the MWSF keynote is on right now, you'll find out what little Stevie has planned for your consumtion soon enough, there's no need for these faked out photos ...

    I still have the copy of IE 5 that shipped with Jaguar (I keep it for sentimental / comic reasons) - this is the *only* browser that I could get to display the bad stuff...

    list they gave looked pretty game-oriented

    Agreed that the list is skewed towards game programming, and java isn't the place to be for bleeding edge games, however there is a java games community, and more specifically an eclipse games community.

    Note - I am not a games programmer, however given some of the solutions listed ( I mean, I used to love chipmunk basic but I'm not going to use it these days ) I thought eclipse should have been pointed to. Eclipse on mac doesn't seem to be as big as eclipse on linux / windows ... I was guessing this was the cause of the overlook (or maybe they hate java (-; )

    Agreed however if your market is for basic-style apps (where Visual Basic is thrown in today), real basic looks quite polished (although I didn't see anything regardsing Linux ...).

    Are you serious? Ever use System 7? It was horrid. It was the reason that Apple stated going down the Copeland road... I can think of few things to recommend this OS. Crash prone, chunky looking, bloated (basically, me as an operating system), and nothing new compared to The old finder that shipped with the original Mac ... Maybe I'm overlooking something pretty obvious, but I thought I was safe being silly about System 7 (It *was* sarcasm ...). Mind you, this is Slashdot, where anything that even slightly tarishes Apply it *must* be trolling ... TTFN
