and as always with statistics are we sure that those that play video games aren't simply more prone to violence with or without the video game. all BS.
it's like saying more relationships fail when the couple isn't married than when they are. well shiat how many gazilion more relationships are there that aren't marriages vs. those that are marriages.
for all we know those that don't play video games could include all of amercia... why include those 60 years and older??? simple they don't commit violent crimes so as always with stats it's often bogus.
screw this crap anyway... it comes down to a parenting issue period. only in America can the blame be placed so easily on somewhere it doesn't belong.
EA is a pile, what did you expect ?

They have the some worst user interfaces ever created for video games. Re-use the same code and release it a year later as a new title.
While I do agree the MySQL.com site could have better navigaion, it is still cake to find anything you want if you know the name...
example: just type into your browser "mysql.com/interval" and you are instantly transported to the proper documentation discussing SELECTING and using INTERVAL.
Another great feature that I believe was implemented from the guys at PHP.net (learned this at the MySQL conference last year)
These games need to charge for both to survive. And from the numbers it looks like if the game is actually good, (EQ, City of Heroes, etc...) they won't have a problem getting the users to purchase and pay a subscription fee.
$14.95 a month is not very much money. I could have afforded that When I was 12 and had a paper route. Heck you could be on the street for a few hours and make that. And we are talking a whole month of fun... or misery for $14.95 depending on how you look at it.
And the fees are cheaper than two movie tickets, about the price for a bottle of wine, way less than a tank of gas. How many other frivilous things do we spend our money on and get very little or limited use out of?
I believe creationism is from more than just christian religions. Judaism spawned both Christianity (catholic, methodist, etc) and Muslim religions.
Do all three of these religions not believe in creationism at the roots? They all have very very similiar beliefs including the origins of the world, created by one god.
they would not be so understaffed and have such budgeting problems that they could some work done.
you can't expect an agency to be it's best when the funding isn't there, look at our schools and health care same issues.
The race drivers do more than the average baseball player as far as training. (and i don't mean batting practice, i'm not saying that hitting a baseball isn't one of the toughest things to do in any game). Drivers have to be in very good physical shape to be able to race for hours on end. Racing is very demamding on the body. Try racing for 15 minutes on some little go-cart track at 25 miles per hour now think of doing that at 150+ miles per hour for several hours!
My problem with this is that as much as I love video games they just simply are not a sport.
Video games are simply that... games. They fall in the same category as chess, pool, golf, darts or baseball. All of these are games. You do not need to be in exceptional shape to play them. Though it can help with baseball I suppose, (but it's still just a game!).
Sports require athletic ability and great physical shape. HOCKEY, water polo, Car racing, olympic games and even being a jockey is a sport.
The rest are simply just games.
Of course any game can instantly be turned into a sport if you are drinking pints of the finest stout at the same time.
I'll agree with this. I am currenly still playing CoH (6 weeks now) but have seen then end of my playing since the first week.
It is a great game and surprisingly fun. Partly because the leveling is soooooo fast and game play is easy and simple. I can come home and play for 30 minutes before or while cooking dinner.
That said I am only playing because other games have not got my interest. FarCry is done and loved it. Waiting for EQII Beta... then I'll drop CoH or if something better comes along first that really interests me.
Perhaps not offering backwards compatability is the reason that they are pushing for a much early release than the PS3. With a year or two of game development the XBOX2 should have a very good game selection by the time the PS3 comes out.
I'm gonna call this as just plain FALSE. Many people on this site are just cranky arse biatches who wish they were working for Microsft, hence the zillion jealous bashes a day. (do i like microsoft ? not really so don't start on that)
Designing websites with XHTML/CSS is cake for both browsers. The thing is, is that anyone can create sites, you don't have to be a developer or knowlegable in any way. How many sites are just thrown together by someone who doesn't know how to make pages cross-browser compliant... and hmm I'd say they display much better with IE most of the time.
It used to be we had to design for IE and Netscape. I saw that pose so many problems especially for intermediate and under developer/designers, hence lots of people didn't even worry about Crapscape.
If you look deep enough you can find faults with all of the browsers. (I can think of one... style="height:1px" doesn't work on HRs in Mozilla/Firefox)
Are Firefox/Opera, etc... better than IE? Probably, but 90% + of the market is on IE and it render's nearly all pages fine. Unless you are trying to use the most advanced features from the current CSS cross browser pages should be simple.
We aren't talking about something that takes a rocket scientist, though I know from the posts that many here think the average rocket scientist is even below them.
PC games will always rule in the graphics department. Consoles just don't get it done in this department. We just sit farther back and think they look as good.
nah i just say find a SO other that works at the crack@ss of dawn so they crash out every night by 9pm. then off you go till the wee hours. Since none of us work before 9 or 10 am anyways.
The User Interface on their games are usually garbage.
I also have one beef about a current release. 2004 Fight Night. While at first it seems amazing later you realize that there really are no custom characters because they all max out at 100 stats accross the board after a few days of play.
This is silly because other countries besides the US play very violent games and watch violent movies. Yet still the US leads the gun murder in the world for non-warring countries ?
Don't blame stuff on games, or films or whatnot. That's not where the blame lies. (though I don't really know where it does)
Let's just blame W
or at least Anonymous Cowards

how was nap time ?
and TIVO isn't ?

Just pay the money and quit biatchin about it.
and if only the 6800 ultras and PCI-Express were available now!
Do all three of these religions not believe in creationism at the roots? They all have very very similiar beliefs including the origins of the world, created by one god.
They are certainly very violent items in books, movies and tv. heck just watch the news in the US if you want violence.
they would not be so understaffed and have such budgeting problems that they could some work done. you can't expect an agency to be it's best when the funding isn't there, look at our schools and health care same issues.
now for the oil companies to find some way to put a stop on this area of research.

How disappointing is that?!

I think you have valid points except for the tired of fancy graphics thing. That kind of goes hand in hand with FPS games.
Perhaps not offering backwards compatability is the reason that they are pushing for a much early release than the PS3. With a year or two of game development the XBOX2 should have a very good game selection by the time the PS3 comes out.

I was pissed when my setting were overwritten. Also frame rates dropped slighty with this new patch.
