Couldn't agree more. Along the same line, all of the major LAN competitions are NOT BYOC. You are given a computer to play on. You only provide your mouse, mousepad, and headset. Sometimes users insist on a special keyboard, but the default is usually good enough for anybody.
This means even Fatal1ty plays on an unknown system, but only provides the tools he is comfortable with. The level of talent in players in a professional level transcends what tweaking, cheating, or hacking can provide. The ability to read opponents accurately and react correctly really makes the difference.
If you used the service, you'd know that Facebook privacy settings are actually implemented very well. For example, I set up an account for my mother so she can look at all her siblings photos. She hasn't been bothered by anyone outside of the family, and is really enjoying the ability to communicate with everyone.
The best thing I can compare it to is AOL. Its got a built in Email clone, IM service, Forums, Groups, and of course, profiles. But unlike AOL, Facebook is just a web page. There's no lock in - its more of a resource provider than a service provider.
Thanks for the response Mr. Meistrich!
The best advice I can give you is to make a short film and hit the festival circuit. Looks like I'll do just that.
Anybody who buys a computer bundled with an OS should probably keep that OS. Vista, though slow as hell, is easier to use and more secure (theoretically). Especially if all you're doing is web browsing and using Microsoft Office.
Those who do not want to use it should be smart enough to install their own distro. XP SP2 CDs are plentiful, like AOL coasters.
And the majority of enthusiasts who want a lean and mean machine, and still wish to run a Microsoft OS, won't need to deal with this bundled nonsense.
From Wikipedia:
On September 9, 2004, GameSpot reported that Duke Nukem Forever had switched to the Doom 3 engine. Those screenshots from the Unreal 2 engine were ancient, release in 2001. They've gone through about 5 major renderer overhauls since then.
How do you sell a script? I don't mean monetarily, but how does one pitch an idea for a script without getting it shot down?
I have lots of ideas for screenplays, and I realize that the chance of anyone important ever reading them is about a million to one. But even my best scripts sound like crap in an 'elevator pitch.' How does one work around this?
I don't 'think' there is a God. It is insulting to my intelligence when one believes in an all-powerful omnipresent being, but claims he is unable to create life throughout the Universe.
Does it tell how to completely disable mouse acceleration? I don't mean *kind of* disable. I want the whole thing off. No acceleration. I want a static ratio for my mouse movements (like, N*x), not some parabolic guessing (like x^N). I don't want Windows' default mouse acceleration. I want to move my mouse 12 inches lightning fast, and 12 inches snail slow, and cover the same exact distance. I WANT IT COMPLETELY DISABLED.
I don't know what Leopard is. I know what an iPhone is. You know why?
Because the iPhone is on the news, tv, radio; everyone is talking about it. It is absolutely more important than OSX at the moment. The iPhone could potentially be Apple's new iPod.
He's so badass he can rocketjump in counterstrike!

I think you're thinking of MySpace.

This was proven SO long ago.

Looks like another darkly lit space alien shooter based on the Doom engine. I've seen enough of that with Doom 3, Quake 4, and Prey.

Which customers? Which shopping centers? ALL OF THEM? Am I being tracked?
Put on your tin-foil hats everyone!

I find it offensive that some people are still implying that God is /unable/ to create extraterrestrial life.
painful

That's not what the latest Hummer was for?
Chuck Norris round-house kicked every living soul who ever pondered over the glass.
Aliens. Their superior Martian technology is the only reasonable explanation for the rover's continued success.
It will take some time before people have a chance to respond (with their wallets) to Leopard.
Wait, people actually pay for OS X?
Been using RT as a ticket tracker at a few places I've worked at. Works well.
Would be surprised to know that SMS is almost exactly the same protocol as SMTP.
Is this really on the top of Slashdot?
Everything that is on top of Slashdot is on top of Slashdot at one point or another.
You are. Now go back to watching Naughty Necro-Ninjas III.

Somebody should attempt to coat the blades of a windmill with these.
Hmm, could've sworn the original implementation used Google maps. Wonder why they switched?
