Couldn't agree more. Along the same line, all of the major LAN competitions are NOT BYOC. You are given a computer to play on. You only provide your mouse, mousepad, and headset. Sometimes users insist on a special keyboard, but the default is usually good enough for anybody.

This means even Fatal1ty plays on an unknown system, but only provides the tools he is comfortable with. The level of talent in players in a professional level transcends what tweaking, cheating, or hacking can provide. The ability to read opponents accurately and react correctly really makes the difference.

  3. Re:Photos? You mean people use FB for photos too? on How Facebook Stores Billions of Photos · · Score: 4, Insightful

I think you're thinking of MySpace.

If you used the service, you'd know that Facebook privacy settings are actually implemented very well. For example, I set up an account for my mother so she can look at all her siblings photos. She hasn't been bothered by anyone outside of the family, and is really enjoying the ability to communicate with everyone.

The best thing I can compare it to is AOL. Its got a built in Email clone, IM service, Forums, Groups, and of course, profiles. But unlike AOL, Facebook is just a web page. There's no lock in - its more of a resource provider than a service provider.

  6. They should not reprieve on XP Deathwatch, T Minus 2 Weeks · · Score: 0, Flamebait

Anybody who buys a computer bundled with an OS should probably keep that OS. Vista, though slow as hell, is easier to use and more secure (theoretically). Especially if all you're doing is web browsing and using Microsoft Office.

Those who do not want to use it should be smart enough to install their own distro. XP SP2 CDs are plentiful, like AOL coasters.

And the majority of enthusiasts who want a lean and mean machine, and still wish to run a Microsoft OS, won't need to deal with this bundled nonsense.

    From Wikipedia:

On September 9, 2004, GameSpot reported that Duke Nukem Forever had switched to the Doom 3 engine. Those screenshots from the Unreal 2 engine were ancient, release in 2001. They've gone through about 5 major renderer overhauls since then.
  8. A bit let down on Duke Nukem Forever Preview On Jace Hall Show · · Score: 1, Insightful

Looks like another darkly lit space alien shooter based on the Doom engine. I've seen enough of that with Doom 3, Quake 4, and Prey.

  9. Selling a Script on Ask a Studio Head How To Get Into the Movie Business · · Score: 5, Interesting

How do you sell a script? I don't mean monetarily, but how does one pitch an idea for a script without getting it shot down?

I have lots of ideas for screenplays, and I realize that the chance of anyone important ever reading them is about a million to one. But even my best scripts sound like crap in an 'elevator pitch.' How does one work around this?

Does it tell how to completely disable mouse acceleration? I don't mean *kind of* disable. I want the whole thing off. No acceleration. I want a static ratio for my mouse movements (like, N*x), not some parabolic guessing (like x^N). I don't want Windows' default mouse acceleration. I want to move my mouse 12 inches lightning fast, and 12 inches snail slow, and cover the same exact distance. I WANT IT COMPLETELY DISABLED.
