Did NY take the funds for it? I didn't read the article so I don't know, but I do know that if a group takes federal funds to do something and doesn't do it they can be in big do do if they aren't smart enough to pretend they did it and get more funds to extend the program.
That doesn't matter. Assuming you don't have some kind of page refresh every n seconds, most analytics software have timeout values between page loads. If you don't close your browser and then come back the next morning and continue where you left off, the analytics software should see that it's been more than 30 minutes between page loads and consider it a new visit.
That might be true, but what about when I open a link in a new tab from something I am reading but don't get to it for another 20 minutes. After I get to it I notice that the link is crap and close it right away. Total time spent = 4 seconds. Total time they think spent is 20 minutes 4 seconds.
Doesn't Congress have other things they should be worrying about like the wars they allowed, Katrina, and the public infrastructure instead of worrying about business profits?
Aren't civil courts the ones set up to deal with things like this?
...this issue seems like a good way to distinguish between those who are against DRM because it restricts their rights to legally use their music, and those who actually just want to pirate music but use rights-based DRM arguments as an (sic) cover
Excellent point. So sad you will be yelled at for 40 posts and be called an Apple Fanboy.
I read this all the time. Don't go to untrustworthy websites.
What should one do? Should they run a whois on every site before going to it? Should they then run a background check on the site owner and the technical contact, if it's not bogus or private? What if it is? Then what does a person do?
People who go to warez sites or any movie/music download site they can find off a search engine deserve what befalls their computer - because one has to take risk for a reward. If they don't want to pay for something that is for sale or go through the effort to find it a wee bit less conspicuously then their computer be damned.
Past those people though, what info would you give grandma about going to a trustworthy web site when what she really wants is some nice wallpaper and screensavers?
I'm thinking it's a lot easier to up sell the person on the phone or with highlighted text on the web site than it is when your computer is one of many in a retail store that isn't yours.
Here's a way of thinking of the GPL that may change some of your attitude to it. Let's say you were a generous donor to the community and wanted to donate a really nice new playground to the city parks that would be free and available for anyone to use. To make sure your gift stayed available for everyone to use, you add the condition that the city cannot close it off and make it a "pay to enter" playground. Your gift was to the people in the community, but if you don't have that condition on it, it leaves the city with the "freedom" to take that gift away from those you wanted to give it to.
That's an excellent analogy for a donation, like you called it in the beginning.
A gift though, once given has all strings cut, legally that is. At least according to Judges Judy, Joe Brown, and Mathis. The others I don't like or watch though.
Did the people posting the bugs with their pompous attitude (as they did with the php, microsoft, and soon to be seen myspace) get the retirement in 6 months on the jobs they were looking for?
If their true and altruistic goal was to have these bugs fixed, well, they did a pretty good job. Too bad I don't believe in altruism through acting like an asshole.
If you are adept enough to try "many trial and error tweaks to Vista's TCP/IP settings" you are adept enough to do a little research before going out to get the newest thing.
Until you go to them for support.
Dell would not fix a built in mic on one of our computers because we put XP on it instead of Vista.
Unless one can fix it themselves or can pay someone beside the manufacturer to fix it - the device is still their device.
Have you tried getting down on all fours then lifting your leg to piss?
You might catch some slack for it by calling it art.
And I ask my friend the UPS driver.
He tells me unless the union ratifies it in their contract there is no way this is true or happening.
Why does the union decide on the route?

I am guessing you are not the one that geeks who buy the ubercool toy want to have sex with.
Why did you have to add monkey to that list? I have a legit domain with monkey in the name.
Please don't shame the monkey.
I feel bad for noway@jose.com, idont@thinkso.com, canihaveyour@email.com, and kissmy@ss.com.
They are usually the emails I give when it is required for something I have already paid for.
I also feel bad for the person who lives at 123 Main St. Anytown USA 11111.
Usually these go to the people who look at the back of my CC and still don't ask for ID when it clearly states that on my card.
How is four paragraphs simpler than four sentences?
It's okay. We've all had a drink or two and then posted.

I don't think this a place you have to worry about people forgetting such things.
Doesn't Congress have other things they should be worrying about like the wars they allowed, Katrina, and the public infrastructure instead of worrying about business profits?

Is my info in there?
Don't tell me you can't find out just because the ones before were DRMd. People were breaking that since the first one came out.
Should it be there? No. But black eyes heal as this one will when they remove it from future songs they put up.
I should have put a bit more thought into that.

Adobe enjoyed it's time as the new internet video player.
I use their SMS search service to get info all the time and have not received any unwanted text messages, spam, or ads with my results.
Any of these sites on Google Maps?

I'll give you the option for divine creation if you give me the option for evolution.
How many bugs were exploited?

First Martha, now her.
The Enron guy got to fake his death and walk away with gazillions.
Chics just can't catch a break.
Really need to stop whining.
