So it is entirely possible that nobody likes it, and the advertisers perceive it to be a set of palatable stories to wrap around their corporate messages.
No it isnt, Ill admit to liking the show. I'll admit it could be alot better, but when I look at most of the crap that aires these days it faires pretty well.
Touche, If I had the cash for a top of the line sound system, Id use that over my computer anyday. As it is, my computer speakers are about on par with my stereo.
And it does suck that all those "backup" copies flaoting around are mostly of teeny-pop crap and the likes.
Gore never claimed to invent the internet, he said "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."
Hes taking credit for supporting the creation of the internet, providing funds through congress, that kind of thing. He wasnt saying that he actually invented the internet, wrote the code for tcp/ip, or anythign like that.
I've never seen why I should bother to copy tracks from my CD's to my PC and put up with degraded quality.
Ill let you in on a little secret. Most people dont actually rip all those mp3s theyve got. We downlaod "backup" copies of the sngs from CDs that we've, um misplaced. Yeah thats it misplaced.
Well at least I know its not just me. I tried installing Core 2 Test 3 the other day and got exactly that symptom. (I was thinking about downloading the release version, but if the bugs still there whats the point).
The other problem I had was video card support. Granted Ive runnning a Radeon on a nforce2 motherboard which I diddnt expect to work perfectly out of the box, but vesa drivers wouldnet evenlet me boot x. It kept going to the video configuration screen, Id select somthing, and then bang, my comp hangs.
Im just happy that I managed to resolve that windows dual boot bug. For some reason, going into my bios and changing the boot order to bring up my SATA drive first (which XP and Fedora weere both installed on) instead of looking at the cdrom and floppies made my system completly ignore grub and just go straight back to windows.
Ill try again (with another distro) but this doesnt look good on the Fedora team.
On the other hand, keep in mind that you will also have to pay for modding (wether you do it yourself or not), a disk drive, and a few other bits and pieces, and suddenly it's still only around the same price as a $300 Tivo (although it can also do more).
You dont have to pay for modding. Just softmod it see (xbox-scene.com) for free. And if you dont want a bigger hard drive, dont use one. Just run evreything off of network shares on your other computers.
You dont need to open it up at all. No TSOP flashing either.
To mod your xbox all you need is a copy of mechassault/splinter cell/007 agent under fire (you could rent it if you dont have it), a memory card, and some means of copying a saved game from your PC to the memory card. I just spliced an old USB plug into my controller cable (it can now be used on the PC and XBOX).
Once you've got those things, modding your box is a simple matter of copying the saved game to your xbox's hard drive and opening it from within the corrolating game.
Check out http://www.xbox-scene.com for all the details (the forumsn are a great help too, look under gamesave and dashboard exploits).
The problem is, I and Im assuming im no tthe only one here, get a hell of alot of spam. Probabally over 150+ per day. When you send your "non spam" bulk emails do you think im going to be able to spot them amungst the other 150 emails i just recieved? No, im either going to click delete after seeing that your email resembles spam (eg its selling somthing), or its goign to be stopped by my spam fileters, and Ill just delete my entire spam folder.
That might not seem like such a big problme, theres alyways the arguement "hey, its not that hard to press delete." But the problem is, I shouldnt have to delete or filter out your emails.
Even if it does get tagged as spam evrey time I recieve one, that still adds on to the bandwidth. And just because its one out of a hundred doesnt make the issure any less relavent. More companies acting like you, cerate more and more traffic and that traffic all adds up.
Now if you did have a confirmation email, chances are that would get through my spam filter, and if it was for a bulk email that I actually want to recieve (there are a few, including Slashdot here) the I add it to my white list and it gets through evrey time.
Heck, Maybe in the future all controllers will be touch screen, and the button configurations will depend on the game programmers themselves.
Well I sure hope this doesnt happen. Not that Ive got anythign against using touch screens, but to use them as the sole means of input would be suicidal. Actually feeling the buttons makes a big difference in the usability of the controls.
Unless youve played the game alot already and know where each button is located, youd be stuck looking down at the touch screen evrey few minutes to make sure that you're actually pressing the right button. That'd be a big pain in the ass.
Well its definiatly no thte only channel. I found some cable plans from NTL, if you want to know what they have (well an example of it anyway) take a look.
Its not population problems were trying to deal with. Thats another issue. All we need is to move enough people so that a new population can be started somewhere else.
Rereading your post, your quote for your parent post does not necessicarily involve the population problem either. Trying to send resources from other planets, asteroids, etc to earth (or any other place in the solar system for that matter) is not the same thing as trying to ease the population problems here. However, the import of resources from other planets would enable us to better cope with an ever growing population here.
They may not have the right to ignore the decision, but they do have the right to not abide by it. As long as you are willing to face up to the consequences, then go ahead and violate copywrite all you want. Weigh in the change of getting caught, with the penelty for doing so, annd Im willing to take that gamble.
I do pay for some games, online play like battle.net requiring valid cd keys, or anything that I spend more than a few hours on usually comes out of my pocket. Evreything else, I dont need to justify to anyone else. I dont have a moral problem with downloading 1's and 0's and it ends there. Stealing somthign physical in my opinion is a completly different matter.
That reminds me of my setup. Ive got an 80Gb HD split to 20/60 or so with the 20 being used to store windows as well as my installed apps etc. The other 60 (plus the 120 I have because I hate deleting all the TV shows and movies I download) are just used for data storage. Mostly media, plus the backup Ghost images and my address books and other data Id like to maintain between restores.
Even running windows, I only need to restore from backup once evrey couple months (since september its been maybe 3 times). If I could still get my gaming fix under linux maybe Id kick the bucket (ive tried a few times but its never stuck). With ghost backups, windows fucking up is pretty painless.
I completly agree, but in the mean time, ill just keep my figners crossed that we dont "import" this or a similar law to Canada.
It scares me that the US could have actually passed and implimented somthing like the DCMA. Even if we dont end up following big brother, I would be suprised if companies creating DCMA complient devices and tecnologies for the American market could be bothered to take the time to those "features" for non US markets.
a) I feel the programmer's JOB is to be the slave to the user. If the programmer's NOT programming for the user, then he's not doing his job.
I'll make this brief because Im trying to watch the leafs game...
Your logic is correct, however we have to make sure we know WHO the user is. Is the programmer is just intending to se the program himself, screw usability, they just need to know how to get it running, and no one else. Evreythign else is an afterthought.
Just set it up so users personally mark each message as spam. This marking goes into a database which once each uniqe entry reaches a certain threashold would begin to block that email from other users.
Any filtering algorithms they use could use this list to build the filters, and weigh each entry by the number of times it has been reported as spam. They could even use a viewing threashold like slashdot, you set it to the certainty you require before blocking.
It's this type of activities that asinine laws are trying to prevent. Now ask yourself this: If you had the ability to buy episodes of your favorite shows, ala iTunes, would you?
Depends how cheap they were, if they were around a buck or so (CAD), probabally. More than that, the answer would be no. Unlike music wich you do listen too over and over again, most shows I download I dont need to watch again.

theres no need to solder anythign

Tiy si sure abou t that. From what ive notice, most readers dont read the arcticle... they just read the comments.
Those are lives too (lots of which were innocent).

although I think Id opt for more than 4MB of ram, youd need some kind GUI for the generel public to use.

Hell, its public domain (at least in Australia). YOu could erad it right here --> http://www.gutenberg.net.au/ebooks01/0100021.txt
I dont know about you, but having one less company that sells penis enlargement pills around wouldnt be a problem for me in the slightest.
