EXAMPLE XCEL glue is comprised of a trade secret protected formula. Phil, a chemist, analyzes the contents of XCEL glue, determines its composition and recreates the formula. Phil can legally use this information to make and sell his own glue.

Keep in mind this applies to trade secrets, not patents. In order to have a trade secret, you cannot publish it. i.e. A Trade Secret cannot be a patent because you would have to disclose, in this case, the formula.

If the formula for XCEL were patented, There would be no need for reverse engineering as Phil would already have the formula for XCEL (it was published for patent protection), and couldn't reproduce it legally without a license.

  5. Very Sticky Subject on E.U. Employers To Be Held Liable For Porn Spam? · · Score: 5, Interesting

"European employers must be aware of the risk of new computer-related liabilities," said the researcher for the University of Amsterdam's Institute for Information Law.

"An important example of such a potential new liability is the risk of being held accountable for not protecting employees against unsolicited pornographic e-mail."

This could encourage companies from denying Internet access to employees, after all why risk sexual harassment lawsuits for something that is so difficult to stop.

On one hand you can have an opt-in list for employees, where someone must "allow" a person to send mail to an inbox. I use this for my Dads email account due to all of the spam (however, being his personal and business email address, I must constantly monitor the mail so that nothing important gets caught in the SPAM TRAP)

Which leads to the other hand, opt-in limits your ability to do certain things, for instance if you pass out business cards with an email or want legitimate, but currently unkown people to contact you it is a pain in the ass.

It is much easier to organize the songs on the computer, if for no other reason, the sheer size of the screen.

I would much rather sacrifice some storage capacity for a smaller model

If you have too many choices (songs ) on your portable device, you may just end up not using (listening to) all of the choices (songs ) anyway. After a point, as the number of choices increases, the ability to make a decision suffers, and the time it takes to make a choice increases.

  11. Exaclty on Satellites Show That Earth Has a Fever · · Score: 1
though it is debatable on whether ther is human induced global warming or not, I think there is pretty conclusive evidence that the temperature on the surface of the earth changes in a cyclic manner.

In fact, isn't it generally agreed that one of the previous epochs (periods, etc) had a much more tropical climate than the one we have now?

As such, given the short period of time human beings have produced 'greenhouse' gases, how can we truly measure this within the big picture.

Has there ever been a study that calculates the probabilities and consequences of warming due to cyclic changes as opposed to human induced warming. It could very well be the case that humans are causing accelerated warming, but if the probability that warming would have occured anyway is greater than the probability that humans are causing greenhouse effect, it may indicate a different "Real" affect caused by humans. Or that humans are just accelerating the inevetable.

I'm sure (2) could be solved with some thought.

Not necessarily, individuals could still vote over the net, access would just have to be provided for people without computers. i.e. Election Polls.
