I have said it before and I'll say again: a keyboard and mouse is far superior to a simplistic gamepad in most types of games (platforming aside). I cannot even bother to pick up a game pad for an FPS as it is to sad an experience. This will never change.

  8. Hazardous materials (nano-particles)? on Workers Poisoned Making Touchscreen Hardware · · Score: 1

This is something I have wondered about for quite some time. Apple's touch displays are coated with a polymer that contains nano-particles which are meant to prevent skin oils from sticking to the glass thus making them "finger print resistant". They call it an "oleophobic" coating. As many owners of these devices will be aware, the coating wears away after many months of use from constant touching, tapping and swiping. What I want to know is, when this film wears away where are these nano particles going? With the pressure of fingers being rubbed against these surfaces I would imagine that it goes directly into the skin. If so, I would then imagine that this would be a potential health hazard for the end users as well. I have yet to see any scientific analysis of this but perhaps I am talking crazy. Either way, I would like to hear some opinions from folks with more knowledge in this area.

  25. Nano materials risks? on Spray-On Liquid Glass · · Score: 1

I have a genuine concern about the influx of all these consumer grade products which contain Nano materials (as we all should). I get the distinct impression that corporations are putting the benefits of these materials way ahead of the potential health risks (surprised?). Just off the top of my head...Apple's iPhone has a coating comprised of nano materials, many skin creams and make up now contain nano particles, etc. Where are the real studies that show there are no risks in using these materials directly with your skin and body? How can there be any credible tests that show long term results? The sad thing is that 99.9% of the people don't know or care about this. I fear that these materials will be the Asbestos of the 21st century that people of the future will look back on and shake their heads. Can any Slashdotters provide some good feedback or linkage on this matter? Appreciate any feedback.
