With DRM being so integrated into Vista and upcoming chipsets from Intel, they have pretty much guaranteed that I will not be spending any of my $$$ on their products.
I think that this is just wishful thinking on your part. The vast amounts of data for these 'next gen' games will definitely require adequate caching (HDD) for the load times to be fast enough.
So now we know that MS has taken us a step back in the 'next generation' of Xbox. We no longer have the HDD by defauult as we did with the first Xbox.
Apparently developers are not coding games to 'require' the HDD but I'm guessing it will be used for caching to allow for faster load times.
This begs the question, what will the gaming experience be like for a player who has the standard 'core' XB360 versus the person who paid MS an extra $100?
Will the cheapskate player have a lesser game experience due to longer load times? What will happen in multiplayer games? Will the person who obviously has more $$ to line Bill's pockets get all the good weapons before the player who is less wealthy (thus giving the advantage to the rich player)?
Next generation? More like, Next "iteration". Thanks so Microsoft. Ugh....
Why are we bullied into paying $100US to get the add on HDD plus other crap?
Why doesn't the high and mighty allow us to use an external USB 2.0 HDD or our own? Many of us surely have HDD's laying around that could be used. The Xbox360 has the USB2.0 ports....
So, this will be 3 or possibly 4 iterations of the XB360?
1. XB360 doorstop $299
2. XB360 deluxe (the one we thought were all getting) $399
3. XB360 doorstop w/ bolt on HD DVD drive cos they didn't get it right the 1st time $399
4. XB360 deluxe + HD DVD $499
???
I will stick with my PC for now thanks. Having enough fun already and I don't need to shell out a motherload of $$$.
What I want to know is how long will it be before we start seeing holographic ads in the sky and all around us (airvertising)? Not sure I like where this is going.
Soon we will have to don anti airvertising goggles to block out the ads a la Steven Utley's 'The Real World' http://www.scifi.com/scifiction/originals/original s_archive/utley/utley3.html. Here we go....
The main concern here is, what will happen to the intial adopters of Xbox 360 when the HD-DVD versions come out and games no longer appear on standard DVD's?
If the games don't get published on HD-DVD only then what's the point in introducing the format?
This is a very bad idea IMO. They should have gotten this cleared up atleast 6 months ago. They are heading for an iceberg and can't seem to stop it.
Better fork out some millions to set this ship back on course Bill.
Fools, that ain't water!
Don't they know an dab of Oxy5 when they see it? Poor Mars is covering up a zit and you got it on camera....he won't be happy now.
NASA get photoshoppin' on those pics before Mars finds out! He'll be kickin' them rovers off it's surface!
Noble effort indeed but here in Japan we Pioneer has a USB Chordless phone that I can use with Skype. Great quality!

Are these available in North America/EU? Not sure.
I think you have may be misunderstanding something here. The drive is optical in the way it writes to the disc. Not in the way data is transferred from your system to the burner.
Am I the only one who thought of this as relating to the iPOD?
You'd think that Steve Jobs' "reality distortion field" would be able to shield it from just about anything!
Perhaps you are not aware but here in Japan many of the newer phones allow owners to complete financial transactions. Their phones are then the equivalent of cash cards.....security needed you think?
Don't worry, you guys will see similar stuff in 2-4 years. =)
Noisy? Overclocking perhaps? If so, then you are not operating within the design parameters.
My shuttles are almost silent. Mind you I am not overclocking.
Two Athlon 64 3000+ systems with no problems =)
Reminds me of 'The Real World' by Steven Utley (give it a read at http://www.scifi.com/scifiction/originals/original s_archive/utley/utley1.html/ - see page 3).
We will have to start wearing goggles to filter out the airvertising..unless of course we end up enjoying it [g]. It's just a matter of time before the technology has us there....Minority report was just a taste of what will no doubt be coming to major cities.
Seen your sig in the planetbattlefield DC forums many times and I thought I might kindly mention that there is a slight grammatical error in it...in case you'd like to know.
"Never argue with an idiot... they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience every time."
the correct form would be
"Never argue with an idiot...he/she will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience every time."
or
"Never argue with an idiotS... they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.".....and DON'T argue with me, I'll just bring you down to my level =P....lol.
airvertising: bladerunner here we come....

Returner = good special effects?
You = very bad vision
The SFX in that movie stunk worse than an after school special about the dangers of leaving cheese on the counter for too long. I live in Japan and Canada and have grown up on Japanese tv and movies.
I really have to say that the Japanese movie fan boys are just talking outta their asses IMO. Japan really needs to spruce up on SFX, acting and dialogue! Ugh...some movies are simply too painful to watch...

It sounds more like airvertising than 'bluecasting'.

Not a bad deal? We were all thinking that everything was going to be included for $299. This is typical MS bullcrap IMO.

I really thought I was getting a zoomed up shot on either Bryan Adams, Ray Liotta or Manuel Noriega. That is until I zoomed out a little more. =)
When are we going to see calendaring functionality with Gmail? You know it's in the works in Google labs...come on Google! ;)

You could always move to Japan and get a hikari (FTTH) 100Mbps line....7 months free campaign with Tepco no less =).
