My machines are up to date and I also VERY rarely enjoy an automatic reboot or BSOD. And the one time I did have a persistent BSOD/reboot cycle, it was because of faulty hardware.
For me it's a case of "Whaaa whaaaa I can't get it in the Netherlands because they are still talking to wireless providers whaaa whaaaa" Just sell it and if wireless access is ready, update the machine, in the meantime I could read my books.
The people who say that are idiots, your eyes might get tired, but that's it. Rest and you're done, if you get bad eyesight, it's not because of reading a book/monitor in the dark.
I installed XP on a co-workers old Dell laptop P1-233mhz, 128mb ram, 4gb hdd It took a LONG time, but it works perfectly and for him it's fast. He's not in IT.

I checked out the Sony offerings, but the 500 is quite limited in it's features and the 700 has a bad review on Gizmodo.
