    One common misconception about the field of Artificial Intelligence is that it is only about trying to replicate human intelligence. Knowing how humans think and using this information to create adaptive, "intelligent" algorithms is more common.

    This does not replicate human thought, but allows the computer to algorithmically determine (guess) solutions to a variety of very difficult problems. It still needs a lot of processing power to analyse and pare down the decision tree, but this is expected.

    This is true. Living in Fayetteville, Arkansas is fairly in expensive as well. If you find the right place, you can live less than a mile from the university for under $500 bucks a month. My appartment two blocks from the university costs $500 after utilities.

    I live ok on a $1300/month salary from the University. I could live very well on twice that. Also, if you work at the University full-time, they waive 95% of your tuition and %50 of your spouse's or children's tuition. $160 per semester is much more affordable than $2000 per semester.

    We can take up to eleven class hours a semester almost free. They charge us five dollars per credit hour and the minimal entrance fee, but they waive all the misc. fees.

    My tuition last semester was $202.20.

    Remember, the artificial inteligence field isn't just about creating a sentient computer, it is also about finding new solutions to computationally difficult problems.

    The research of today may be the foundation of many of the algorithms we will using in twenty years.

    Personally, I decorate my office comics cut out of newspapers. I do work in the periodicals department of a university, though.

    I have a nice corner office with windows, at least that is how I describe it. It is inside the building with a clear view our reading room.

    I think of it as my own personal zoo. The patrons can watch me and I can watch them. I do remember not to feed the animals though.

    We do have tails, but ours are vestigial. So is our appendix. Also, remember that bipedal and quadrupedal movement is much different.

    I've always thought having a prehensile tail would be nifty, but it would make sitting down and purchasing clothing a bit more difficult.

    I'm using a Radeon 9800 Pro.

    I was in the market for a new card a few months back and was able to pick it up at nearly half price. I thought it was a good deal to pick up a ~$270 card for $160 after tax.

    Look for bargains (or have a contact at an outlet store).

    I was looking for a new graphics card to replace my near 5 year old Matrox G400 Max. I was planning on spending about 175 on a Matrox P750. I think that is an ok price for a piece of hardware that I will use for a few years.

    Well, my friend that works in a FedEx outlet store (the place all those lost and damaged packages go) told me that they had recieved a Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB card.

    They were selling it for 50% retail price. It retails at about $290 before tax (cheaper if you purchase the low-cost brands). I got mine for ~$165.00.

    Now I have a gaming card in a primarily non-gaming machine. Before, I could barely play NeverWinter Nights at 800x600 at low detail. Now, I can play it at 1600x1200 on max detail. I'm a happy camper.

    Would it not be simple to have the turbine increase and decrease blood flow in order to mimic a normal pulse?

    I would think that this, if implemented properly, would prevent those health problems associated with constant blood flow through the veins and arteries.

    This would make sense if the manufacturers certify their product for use with antennae of certain maximum specifications. They will still ship their products with the default (low-power) antennae.

    As long as the replacement antennae is below the maximum specs their devices is certified for, using the new antennae is legal. Go one smidgen over those max specs and they probably won't notice, but they could bust you for breaking the law.

    I like the comics, they are sometimes funny and make concepts easy to remember. They may be silly, but people will remember them because of that. Hopefully, they will remember the concepts too.

    I've had a roommate since I was a junior in highschool. I just sleep with a pillow on top of my head, along with part of a blanket on top of the pillow.

    The black blanket blocks most of the light and the pillow blocks both light and sound. I also tend to sleep with my back towards my roommate.

    My roommate and I have an agreement to study without the overhead lights on if the other wants to sleep. I'm usually the one that is up late, but when I'm not I find that our agreement works fairly well.

    Oh, and a pair of headphones work well if you want to listen to music after the roommate has went to bed. These can be shared too.

    Computers are moody and illogical. You have to remember to feed her at least once a year with new hardware. Oh, and be sure to clean her regularly, especially those nasty heat sinks that seem to collect every speck of dust that has ever existed in the room.

    It doesn't hurt to pet her daily or to complement her on how well she is multitasking today. Remember, just like women, flattery works some/most of the time. Complement her on how sharp her monitor is looking today and she'll flash you that gorgeous smile we have all come to love.

    Do these things, and you'll have a cordial companion for as long as you need. Just don't forget that those pesky solar flares that run on fourteen-year cycles will occasionally cause random errors in her logic.

    Switch something here, switch something there, and your relationship with her turns from sailing happily through blue skies to finding your way past those pesky blue-screens-of-death some of us are all to familiar with.

    See, our computers are much like our significant others. They are just a bit more loyal I think. Now... I just have to find some way to keep her from PTP sharing with that nice Xeon server two buildings over.

    I help my family member and friends when I can. At my part time job, I'm the computer guru, though all I do is basic spreadsheets with Excel.

    You'd be amazed at how often I hear something like "I didn't know you could do that," or "That way is so much easier" from my boss. She isn't completely computer illiterate, but she didn't grow up with a pc instead of a dog as I did.

    Perhaps, but my 486 was a bit less powerful than yours. It was 25mhz strong and had 2MB of ram.

    My favorite game at the time (XCOM: UFO Defense) ran decently though. I still wonder if it is possible for soldier to be 130% accurate with a rocket launcher.
