I was in about the same boat, working for a sub contractor helping make things.
The thing I was concerned about was, all the technology the we are/were using against foreign countries and terrorists are now being used against the population of the US.
The NSA and CIA and it's immediate peers have a little common sense, but the Patriot act started a pipline of this intel to the FBI, State Police, Local police.
Our local police have problem pepper spraying handicapped elderly people issuing a parking ticket and exessive use of tasers whil issuing regular traffic tickets Look at Ferguson MO, etc...
Do we want morons like these with anymore information and power, the public needs to watch them, not the other way around.
Almost all technology products used by a large group of people have had the sharp edges knocked off. Knocked off by people that understand the underlying theory, logic, software, & hardware.
Think about the types of users usualy under discussion. Clueless, users(mac, windows, linux, unix),grand parents, script kiddies, hackers, computer scientist, tech savy, code monkeys, hardware engineers, system administrator, data base admin, etc...
Everyone of these labels have a differant depth of understanding the high tech, networked, products the masses are using to text message,p2p,blog....
Without a good understanding of the math, theory, logic, & history of the technologies, you are wandering around in the dark.
I like the concept and I am glad Raidiohead tried this.
After looking at the royalty rates for software authors, musical artists, and other creative arts (movie,video,etc)... The big companies / middle men are raking it in. And the consumer is paying the bill.
The internet is leveling the playing field. Lower cost of product, fewer hurdles to distribution, censorship by the consumer's choices (purchase y/n), variable/negoiatable pricing.
More money in being an artist. Lower cost to consumer. More artists can make a living being creative. (but possibly fewer mega-rich ones) Fewer creative limits for the artist. And the parasitic middle men can change careers. Middle men that actually add value to the process will still exist. (but make a much more modest income)
They meant the brainwave of a Kansas native.
flatline
Thats why the "Welcome to Colorado" sign is a vacation photo classic....
Do you speak Navajo? Basque ? Russian ?
How about assembling an binary without writing anything down ?
I am only a moron to people that don't know me.
encryption is encoding, you just aren't sharing the decoder with everyone !
If a human can't understand the message with their five senses it is encoded/encrpyted.
And any language is a coded message to people that don't understand that language.
Navaho anyone? octal, binary, unicode, ascii, cpu microcode, 6800 machine code, F21, etc...
unknown code words ?
Has a strange new computer language been discovered ?
or just "forth" subroutines !
Go Forth and factor !
Obama typed in a bit of (simple?) javascript and then the press bragged that he was the first US President to code !
Surely some President before ran a spreadsheet or did a search & replace in a word processor.
A line of Javascript, whoopy do, but an designing & programming an entire program in C++, that's computer coding !
You missed the Oregon Trail reference ?
All your dessert's belong to us.
if "digital native" means comfortable communicating by Facebook, twitter, etc....
I translate that as social stunted and likely to emberass themselves & your company in photo and print.
How many social media shaming stories about overhead comments/jokes or comments (perhaps out of context) this year ?
Communicating by social media is like calling "selfies", photography.
Your face 500 times is no match for almost any other 500 pictures (even my vacation photos, I take nice vacations).
Does this pass the HIPPA requirements ?
I wouldn't want to trust my clients data to cloud security.
lets stop high frequency trading.
stock investments that are fleeting, are not investments only gambling.
People hold investments for days, weeks, months, years.
Gamblers change their mind moment to moment.
Speculators & gamblers gaming our financial systems are making a mess of the world.
This includes the US government and the printing of money without any backing value.
The doom and gloom market boys are predicting a real mess if our leadership doesn't make a real change in regard to our debit & deficit.
got your gold, guns, ammo & prepper supplies ?
I wonder how many months until they have a massive data loss ?
Can anyone say stock option meltdown ?
Sony Sony Sony !
Did those russian hackers read Hillary Clinton's email ?
And did they save a copy ?
Hello, sweetie !
Keep up the feisty attitude.
Troll bashing is a exercise in futility.
80% or more of the population are functional useless.
I salute you for being a thinking & active person
Stop Microsoft operating systems from connecting to the internet.
contributing to a crook running for political office is legal !
if an executive order against that happens, we will get the political reform we need !
We need more computer professionals elected !
They wouldn't be erasing their email servers to hide stupid messages.
Or bragging about typing a line of javascript is coding !
I am a unix system admin (and old), the answer is always "yes it can be done, but you may not have the money, morals, or enough time to do it"

I was working IT (unix,SAN) and got my fill of the stupidity.
After a relaxing multi-year vacation(motorcycling), I bought a business.
A small town bar ! ( I am a very light drinker)
Now, The impared judgement rambling is from my customers, NOT my bosses !
And when they have had enough, You call a cab.
Not many small towns have an internet cafe/bar with onsite computer consulting...
Might be a trend setter, but probally not.
And what can I do for you ?
Beer, whiskey, or a system rebuild ?
I agrees.

The artist win ! The consumers win !
We have to start a search for the other copies.
And if you meet Romana, give her my number.
I would call someone to brag about it, but my gphone directory has no number in it.
Yet !
Watch the graduates !
They will have trouble with the established firms set in their ways.
Thus they will be unemployed at a high rate.
And because of that they will start their own companies !
And Profit !
so what is the police's job?
if it isn't "the war on drugs"
supression of political radicals (death squad) ?
Just wait until the next version of "Edgar J Hoover or Joseph McCarty" gets access to this type of technology.
Edgar will know what dress everyone is wearing to the party and where they got it.
And keep his job despite being a social deviant.
Joseph will know where all the commies are.
And not have to worry about anyone taking the 5th on the stand.
You can be a nut job or a true believer, but any zealot with a tool like this would a very bad idea.
Ponder these people, "Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, or Adolf Hitler"
What would they have done with this type of technology ?
I probally trust google more than the us government.
But I know the gov has a lot more of my data.
So with all the PhD's at google separated from the government databases,
my civil liberties are safer !
that's a joke son, laugh.
They are watching and taking down names for later.
Well I am off to work hard & earn a living.
Nah, I think I will have a beer, sit in my recliner and watch Oprah.
