I haven't left a comment on slashdot for about 10 years but i logged in just to reply to this one. YOU ARE RIGHT. The hiring climate has never been so stringent.
Sure plenty of Indians and people of other nationalities have lots of love for the US, but it seems bizarre that jobs in the DHS are so stacked full with foreigners that they would require extensions of those visas to keep the ship upright.
It's my suspicion that US candidates do not qualify for these jobs for all sorts of reasons...technical competency being the least of these. So what if someone smokes a couple of joints on the weekend? Should that really disqualify them from a job with DHS that requires a security clearance? As far as I can tell that is irrelevant, and citizenship should probably trump all of those types of pissant criteria.
This country is going down the crapper, and it's the little guys being flushed first.
The Japanese are usually so clever, I am surprised that they haven't tried this strategy before the wacky cow/whale crossbreed. Or am I the only one around who knows that the closest relative to whales are hippos?

I'm not nearly as deep into the industry as you seem to be, but here's a story that goes along these same lines.
A few years back my buddy was trying to get DSL in his NYC apartment. After a lot of stalling, hemming-and-hawing, Verizon told him that they could not give him DSL because THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CO.

I have owned a Shuttle SFF PC for a few years now and I've had to replace the hard drive at least 3 times because their machines just do not cool properly. Believe me. Don't believe this half-assed hardware review site. I'm sure their writers will do damn near anything just to get some freebies.
Hell, I even bought shuttlesucks.com but I haven't done much with the domain yet because I don't think it'll make a bit of difference.
Playing WoW, a lotta times my guildmates will say they're lagging badly because they're on Comcast. I suspect they just have computers which are loaded with a ton of bandwidth/cpu-hogging malware. That or they're downloading pron. Or both.
So what's the real deal? Is Comcast the POS that everyone claims? Please please please let's get some answers!
