So that's why the RIAA and MPAA continue to endlessly persue completely ineffective strategies to stop file sharing of copyrighted works, defpite the fact that they are literally being raked over the coals every day and anyone can download almost any RIAA/MPAA copyrighted work with the greatest of ease.
They have to make it look like trying to do something to stop the "harm".
You know, there's no backgound music in real life either so 99.99% of all movies have fake physics.
There are also no jump cuts, unless you're on a serious amount of drugs.
Let me get this straight. MOG posts a borderline stalkerazzi piece filled with religiously intolerant innuendo, many people on the web (Including some who have strong disagreements about PJ/GL) band together to act, each in their own way, to let the site owners, other content contributors to the site and advertisers on the site know that this sleazy, creepy 'editiorial' has been posted, resulting in even more negative feedback for the site owners.
The site owners respond by pulling the article and (sort of) apologizing for the whole thing.
And this is an example of the Linux community imploding?
It looks to me like and example of many people, once the facts were presented to them, stepping up and doing what they considered to be the Right Thing.
It's also an example of the potential power of collective action in support of SCO critics. Something that should have people in Lindon and Redmond shaking in their boots a little bit.
Finally, it's an example of what can happen on the net. The truth is that MOG should have never posted that information in that manner, and the pictures took the Creepy factor off the scales.
If John C Dvorak doesn't think this kind of invasion of privacy is a bad thing, let him post his address and phone number (work info will do) as well as pics of his mom's house and her address on the internet.
Because of message boards and email and the existance of many interested and engaged people online, people were able to quickly respond to the article, and influence its removal.
There was no Centralized Authority telling people what to do - no one was paid to take the actions they did. And when complaints were made about MOG's latest fiasco, information began to come to light that others associated with a company she provided content for have been voicing many complaints about her for months.
Far from the implosion to chaos that Dvorak apparently sees, what actually happened seems more like at least a partial restoration of civlity and order.
It's not about money, it's about power. The pirates, illegal distributors and downloaders are all part of the Rebel media Alliance. They must be destroyed so that we can bring ORDER to the Galaxy.
Anyone want to bet that tv ratings start slipping even more now that they're going after tv show traders?
And on top of it all, the DVDs and CDs I bought recently has that stupid FBI anti-piracy logos on them. Makes me not want to spend any more money on new CDs or new DVDs.
How long until they start going after Used CD and DVD sellers?
I just bought the Firefly DVD set AFTER seeing rave reviews (her and other places) ahead of the upcoming movie and AFTER downloading the premiere and the first few episodes.
I just started buying Buffy the Vampire Slayer on DVD AFTER borrowing the seasons from a friend and watching them all.
One activity is perfectly legal and one is apparently the biggest crime of the 21st Century.
The media companies are going to pay. They're too big and corrupt and clueless to survive for long.
exactly once on DVD.
Compare that to Lord of the Rings9Regular and special editions in the same year with some different bonus fesatures), X-men, Fifth Element, Terminator 2, the Alien movies, Daredevil, Hellboy, Underworld, and hundreds of other titles.
The videos were released several times... in a 15-20 year period. Almost as if they were released after the movie had been out of print for aperiod of time.
Does anyone know how many times Wizard of Oz or Godfather or Jaws was released on video? No, cause no one pays attention to that.
Back in 1999 when every dvd-fanboy was yelling and screaming for the Star Warts movies to be released on DVD (including the ones they hated) Lucasfilm's position was that they wouldn't come out until Episode 3 came out. 'Why not just release a barebones version now and Super version later', many demanded. Lucas also mentioned in interviews that he was thinking about waiting until a newer hi-def DVD standard was developed.
But people yelled and screamed that he was being Greedy and Selfish by not releasing the movies on DVD. (Tough one would think it would be greedy to release the movies and take in as much money as possible.
So Lucas released the movies on DVD, first TPM, then AOTC, right after its run and then the OT-SE versions last year.
Then people started complaining that he was going to rerelease them again just to make more money, and by the way why wasn't he releasing the original theatrical versions (which would have made him even more money if he had).
So Lucas is Greedy-Selfish if he DOES release the moviaes and he's Greedy-Selfish if he DOESN'T release them.
That's a pretty tidy situation.
Now it looks like there's going to be a newer higher capacity format avialable.... after Episode 3 is finished - just like Lucas predicted.
The truth is that I post there so frequently, and I was so peeved about the GL site being temporarily Slashdotted that I didn't even think about making a link.
Besides, anyone familiar with the SCO-Wars should have it bookmarked already and constantly open in another tab.
She basically acted like a gossip columnist, reporting and pro-SCO or anti Linix/IBM/Groklaw/OSS spin as fact.
She was factually wrong quite often, and when PJ started pointing that out she started getting particularly angry. She accused Groklaw of being a SCO hate site when the truth is, the Yahoo SCOX message board is the REAL SCOX hate site.
His point was that the RIAA was attempting to lecture colleges about evils of stealing music when the RIAA members have a long and rich history of doing the same thing.
No where does the professor state that it's ok for college students to rip-off musicians.
By the Emperor maybe, but not by the movie itself.

No, It's illegal if your Good Lady Wife doesn't become pregnant.

Heh, Bobby Fed ruled.
"aight" = alright
I don't think that particular expression came about until the 80's.
The Jar Jar, or the endlessly repeated Jar Jar jokes on /. that follows it?

Maybe I should break down and start reading the books instead.
I guess they decided to honor their long heritage dating back to the time when they invented BASIC.
Haven't seen too many since I switched to Firefox.
Coincidence? I think not.
The MPAA recently started going after movie traders, now the Box Office numbers in the theaters are slipping.

Guess I should have included the link.
Or maybe my totally passe Soviet Russia sig puts people off.
That's what I said. Your like is to the Yahoo SCOX message board. So how come you get a 5 and I get a 1?

My guess is that we'll be 3 or 4 Doctor's behind by the time I can finally legitimately see the show in the U.S.
Don't Canadian productions get tax breaks for having Canadian actors in their productions?
