This station is now the ultimate power in the solar system, I suggest we use it.
No debate on the vote... I wonder exactly how much of the new budget will go to actual space exploration, and how much will go towards the Bush administrations version of the Death Star/anti-missle 'defense'.
Becuase we were attacked by a bunch of foreigners from pro-US authoritarian regimes who our flight schools trained.
So now we have to give up all freedoms so that the governent will protect us. Even though we know that they can't and they've said as much.
Plus, certain parties have been trying to figure out how to eliminate Freedom in the US for a long time now, so there's no since it letting all that work go to waste.
They'll know what we're doing all the time anyway.

Sadly the kind of stuff comig out of my former and current governmental officals sounds a lot like policies from China or the USSR or some other totalitarian/authortarian state.
Apparently we have to destroy Freedom in order to save it.
As we all had learned by reading Slashdot, George Lucas is to blame for EVERYTHING.
Including selling his movies on DVD and NOT selling his movies on DVD.
As far as Firefly goes, pushing a movie from srpingtime to the Dead Zone of late September is almost NEVER a good thing.
Unless the movie is so good that it dominates all of the other weak releases that will be dumped into that part of the year.
Personally I don't understand the logic behind releasing a theatrical feature for a tc series that was cancelled after one season. Good or not, it didn't exactly have a chance to build a huge following beyond it's niche.
Back in my day a tv series had to play succesfully in re-runs all over the world for several years, and spawn a huge fanbase before it warranted getting it's own theaterical release.
I think a mini-series or a several tv movies would have been a better idea instead.
Just because the USSR is gone doesn't mean that Nuclear War won't still happen. Back when the COld was was 'over' and defense budgets are actually getting smaller, and the 'Star Wars' Death Star in Space program was mostly scrapped, I thought that scenarios like the one in Watchmen were no longer relevant.
But since the latest administration took power (wanting to crank up Star Wars again even before 9/11) and with military budgets on the rise, and a few smaller wars under our belts, the looming posibility of a global nuclear war weems to more and more possible.
It's pretty ironic that the trigger for the war in Watchmen is the SOVIET invasion of Afghanistan.
This city fears me, because I have seen its true face. The Hollywood people want to tell my story. They think they can tell my story? No one can tell my story. No one except me.
In the past there were men who could tell my story. Men like my father or President Eisenhower. But that was before the lawyers and the pornographers and the bleeding heart teachers took over.
Now the smell of their corruption is in the air, polluting everything with their filth and their pornography and their so-called civil liberties.
But their reign will not last. There will be war soon. A Great War sewwping over everything like a storm. And it will wash away the stench and corruption of Hollywood, Las Vegas, New York and all the other cesspools of this country.
And, in their desperation, the people will look up to me an beg me for their help.
I've seen both Trekkies and Trekkies 2 (thanks Dragon Con) and I've been to science fiction and genre conventions in the 70's and 80's and most recently the last 4 years at Dragon Con in Atlanta.
It seems to me that the Star Trek fanbase is aging, and there aren't really a lot of new fans getting into it. I first became a serious Star Trek fan years after the show was cancelled, and continued to varying degrees throughout the years. Back in the 70's it seemed like there were some science fiction conventions (and conferences) and lots of Star Trek conventions.
But with the popularity of so many other genre shows out there now, including Buffy/Angel, Farscape, Babylon 5, Stargate and others it seems that a lot of people who in the past would have gravitated towards Trek and many other shows to get fanatical about.
The success of Star Trek in its many forms has helped to lay the groundwork for a lot of the fandom centered around other shows, but the Star Trek franchise itself might be suffering a bit because of this.
My specific question is, during the filming of Trekkies 1 and 2, did you notice large numbers of younger fans, and did there seem to be around the same number when you filmed the sequel - or did you notice any decline in the numbers of younger fans?
Geeks come in many stripes. Check out Dragon*Con in Atlanta and their new Gothic Journeys programming track for confirmation.
At D*C 2004 acoustic Goth musician, artist, writer and filmmaker Voltaire mistakenly claimed that Goth was NOT really a 'geek thing'. The other members of the panel, and most of the audience immediately disagreed and Voltaire (who has an EP of Star Trek parody songs, btw) immediately conceded the point.
I just got rid of Flash, I'm not going to install it just to read some article.
It was released on CD, as well as a couple if different remix albums, also produced by Jeff Wayne.
They also made a pretty mediocre PC game based on Wayne's work, and using a lot of the music. (badly edited, in some cases).
Janet Jackson's nipple showed up for about 1 second, then was replayed by 'shocked' parties over and over and over again.
... not 'qualities'.
it woudl be a better world if EVERYONE decided to lay off the AOL usage.
I never realized it was so powerful.
http://www.freetibet.org/ is actually in the top five.
So what happens in people click 'unwanted' links to the top positions?
Besides Han doesn't shoot first anymore, it's a tie.
It's a good thing we have all those nukes to keep us number one.
Between killing Shockwave/Flash, blocking pop-ups, and blocking images from ad servers it's hard to even SEE ad in Firefox.
I'm sorry, it has to be said.

MY Rorschach has given up completely on the Democratic Party.
Plus it always should have been Eisenhower all along.
Including selling his movies on DVD and NOT selling his movies on DVD.

Most of Pale Horse's fans were gays and lesbians? I thought they were mostly knot-tops.

And I will look down and I will say
"No."
Everything will be fine once the chips are implanted directly into all our brains.
One day corporations will be able to strategically destroy key stars in the sky in order to display a celestial version of logos in the heavens.

All of my physics teachers would be so surprised.
