More important to me than the right mouse button is the mouse wheel. That is somthing that is hard to live without, and somthing that even the most brain dead person should be able to figure out.
But really, just cause Apple makes it, dosnt mean its good. Who would really rather have a one button mouse over 2-buttons-with-wheel goodness. Besides total idiots or pepople who use their foot to move the mouse, I can't see a good reason to use the one button. Especily among slashdot nerds with their 1337 skillz.
Given XML's predictable syntax and well-formed requirement it should be relatively easy to create a compression scheme taking advantage of XML then combining that with something like gz or bz2, rather than just compressing XML with gz or bz2. It would be like the difference between compressing a wav file with ZIP and with FLAC. Though with XML the difference would likely only be significant with very large files.
Of course anything like this should be endorsed by W3C before being put into wide use.
Of course its not news. You forget Slashdot is obligated under contract to pimp Apple for whatever reason at least once a day. Remember, everytime Apple or iPod is mentioned on/., Steve Jobs lets one of the editors give him a blow job.
In that case, using an HTML mime type is just the same. XHTML is more about correct formating and seperation of style and formating than anything else. It is semanticly nearly identical to html 4. IE has no problem with either, provided you concede the mime type, which is not a big deal.
Point is, slashcode is obsolete, It Works of course, but there's no reason to start using it now if you arnt already. And sayings Slashdot is the way it is because of browser compatability problems is just rediculess
You make no sense.
XHTML/CSS works in all browsers that were made in at least the last 5 years. Even IE. Infact the CSS version on a list apart I'm sure worked equally well on each browser.
And HTML 3.2 hasnt been a de-facto standard for a long time, even in the world of MS
Is almost 10 years of support after two differnt major updates have been released really a forced upgrade? Besides, if you still really want it, you can pay for support. Try getting profesional support for Linux kernel 2.0 (okay I might eat it for saying that when someone tells me its easy, oh well, I dont think MS is doing anything evil this time)
Houston is a famous porn star and in my opinion quite an unattractive one. I won't bother linking you to a page since I'm at work, but just search for "Houston 500" and you'll find more info than you want.
Her face looks like it used to be a mans, and through major plastic surgery she was turned into a woman, only to be fucked by 500 men in a row. I'm sure it was quite a disgusting event (the gangbang) but a lot of people like to watch (nothing wrong with that!). Of course a small amount of the people who like to watch also like to participate, so they sign up and hope they get selected as one of the 500 guys to bang Houston. I've read some testimonies about experiences at these gangbangs and they are not very glamorous. You basically are in a warehouse/studio with 500 half naked (usually fat and hairy as well) guys jerking off getting ready to bang the girl. After the first dozen or so times the girl gets fucked (and sometimes nutted on) you can imagine that it's gonna start to look pretty nasty, especially in her pussy. So if you were the 250th guy to go, your not only fucking a rank porn stars cunt, your fucking the leftovers of sweat, pubes, latex and other various fluids from 249 guys before you, not to mention a pussy that's probably so dried out and irritated and bruised you might expect to see it on rotten.com. Add to that a porn star who doesn't even try to fake a smile or a moan anymore and just sits there staring at the camera waiting for it to be over.
So that's your extreme HD view of the event. I bet that many who participate in something like this would probably hesitate about doing it again (though they certainly get a notch in their belt for it). However once the gangbang is over and they publish the video it sells really well. Why? Because of course it is cut and edited and contained within a TV screen. Most people never have to witness to cold nasty details of pr0n nor would they want to. But if you take something like that and put it in high def then you are going to start seeing all the imperfections and not so great looking body parts that would normally get blurred away on a TV screen. It's not quite as bad as going there, but it's probably not better than watching blurry fantasy pr0n. My theory is that as TV tech gets better and sharper and more realistic (and more 3d), the porn industry is going to have to spend more money on makeup and lighting to make it so their porn stars keep looking like porn stars. Okay that's not much of a theory, it's already happening on some TV shows, such as Friends, when they started filming in HD, they had to adjust the lighting on the set and spend extra time in makeup to mute out some of the flaws on the actors and actresses that a standard definition TV would mute for you.
As an experiment, try taking a close up picture of your face with a 5 mega pixel camera at its max settings, view it at 100% magnification and try not to gag.
I'm not so sure anyone really would want to watch HD porn. It would destroy our little pr0n fantasy world. I mean, there's some nasty porn stars out there, like Houston, now imagine Houston at 1080i, I bet its kinda like being at her gangbang. It might look okay on tv, but if you took a good detailed look at her sloppy 300rd's pussy, it might disturb you.
It seems that they are upholding their end of the bargain in a way not in the spirit of Open Source ideologies. They are releasing their sources without useable patches or documentation merely because they are obliged to by terms of the GPL. They are fulfilling their legal obligations and nothing more.
The fact is, if Apple had the time, they would have much rather made their own code. They tried to make their own OS core a couple times but failed. And in the mean time MS was gaining ground in terms of OS quality. If Apple had to wait a couple years after the release of XP to release their next operating system, they'd have lost one of their major selling points, that Mac OS's are better and easier to use than Windows. So they bought NeXTSTEP which happened to use open source (but also proven and reliable) code. Since then they've had an obligation to the Open Source community.
Apple certainly seems to be milking this fact in the PR department, and/. has certainly bought it, but it seems to me Apple is in fact doing as little as they legally can to help the open source community. If they were able to make OS X with their own code, open source would never have crossed their minds.
I too download Enterprise from links posted on Suprnova. I dont have UPN so for awhile I had to, but recently FOX started playing the new episodes on Sunday nights. Either way, the rips on Suprnova were of so much better quailty, plus no commercials, that I didnt even bother watching it on TV anymore. Either way, I'm sure somthing else will pop up very soon. Besides, you got till about a week into January before they start airing new episodes again, so we got some time
I'm happy playing with this tech demo, never have I had my destructive impulses satisfied so completely without losing in Jenga or wrecking a sand castle. Now if they use this physics engine to create realistic jiggling boobies I'll be happy.
I'm pretty sure slashdot has some kinda regular expression search replace setup for certin key words to be arbitrarily replaced by "iPod". It's already used on the words "mp3 player", now it seems they've added "handheld computer" to the list. I await the day when any random noun is replaced by "iPod". I'm sure the editors at slashdot have some kinda deal with Apple where each additional mention of the iPod in a slashdot article allows a select editor to give Steve Jobs a blow job.
I'm sure you actully mean PC Magazine == shit, otherwise you are trying to assign that property to what I'm sure is a protected variable of the computer magazine class. So you'd just get an error. Of course if PC Magazine is truley as shitty as you say then in all likleyhood they forgot to set it as private/protected which gives you free reign to set it to whatever you want. Tho if it were up to me I might set it to somthing like PC Magazine = Blow jobs
Nah I'm already living in an apartment and moving to copper beech. Simmons was nice for what it was, good location, easy access food (of course thats why you'd wanna live in Simmons and not Atherton). And while the inet sucked, the showers were incredible, the pressure made it feel like it was ripping my skin off, but in a good way.
I'm staying at the Northbrook greens propertys, brand new built just last year, so I have some faith that the buildings are still in good condition. The internet is hardwired, not wireless. Suposedly the new places are very well insulated, I will see...
Funny you say that! I have a lease to live in Copper Beech in the fall. It comes with free cable internet, no wireless tho of course I will make my own wireless. I pretty much figured their cable inet WAS adelphia so I dont see much of a choice there. I havnt heard great things about adelphia but nothing horribly bad, right now I use D&E and its decent.
offhand, how is copper beech? Would you happen to know if they are strict about their no pets policy? I was just wonderin for no particular reason...
I lived in Simmons last year (room 110, forget which hall) and the inet connection was pretty horrible. It went down all the time and was generally pretty slow, in spring semester it got a little better, all in all tho I was very disapointed with penn state inet after hearing some glory stories (as far as fast inet connections go) of some of my friends in other universities. Such is life.
Of course I could not tell rescom or housing that I was basicly living in a girls dorm and often using the girls bathroom (it was like, 4 floors down to the first mens bathroom, thats just too far). If registering my account to her dorm room did not work it would have been easy enough to register her account to my computer (and yes you usualy did have to wait a couple of days for it to go through). However, we hoped that we could leave her laptop hooked up to the other network port (she actully lived alone in a double, I drove away all her roomates) so keeping her account available was a plus. In the end it worked and I did not have to notify anyone of this "move" save the web script.
Rescom had other problems than lax security, the internet connection was painfully slow for everyone on campus. This is explained by the fact that they have to serve up over 40,000 students and faculty, still tho I yearned for my cable modem at home. But not only was it slow, they recently instituted download caps of 1.5gigs a week, which if you go over your bandwidth is cut down to 56kbps (in reality you got somthing that seemed more like 300 baud, and pretty much renderd your web connection useless) for the remainder of the week, and if you do this more than 3 times in one semester your bandwidth is cut down for the rest of the semester. For awhile a penn state local Direct Connect server was running since bandwidth wasnt counted from the local network but it was shut down quickly. Now with the seemingly useless Napster deal, and blocking of popular file sharing networks (least from what I heard), I'm glad I got the hell out of the dorms and moved into an apartment, of course the lousey inet connection is hardly what drove me out of the dorms, but its certinly somthing I dont miss.
True but you can easily re-register your student account to another MAC address and another port in ANY dorm room at any time. Infact this even worked when I moved my computer to my girlfriends single dorm and registerd my account to work in her dorm room (even though I was still technicly living in the guys suplamental room 4 floors down). I actully didnt think it would work but it did.
I still think what MS should do is take the Windows XP source code and remove all comments, then remove all tabs and line breaks, then remove all includes and make all the code inline in one huge text file, then search and replace all refrences to functions and variables with random numbers and letters then zip it up and GPL it on sourceforge. It would be open source would it not?
Whether this story turns out to be true or false, the overall impression I am getting is that MS is taking a step backwards with their next console. The original Xbox was the apitamy of console inovation (at least I thought so). In all the areas that the PS2 let us down, the Xbox came to the rescue; but not only did it have supiror graphics, it excelled in other ways first and foremost the inclusion of a hard disk. It's unfortunate that few games used it to their advantage, but its still a good idea. Xbox also fully supported Dolby Digital 5.1 and HDTV, and it came with a built in ethernet card (tripped up only by the fact that Xbox Live took 2 years to come out). Even the little controler cord break away thingies were pretty damn cool. I think the thing is so popular with hardcore gamers (other than the hacking potential) is because it packed so many good ideas in one box, which made it easier to ignore that the thing was from Microsoft and that it did not have the library that PS2 did.
But what of Xbox2, from the rumors at least, it seems nothing more than a box with better graphics. Where's the inovation? I have not heard any good new ideas. Granted I have not heard any from Sony or Nintendo either, but considering MS wants to release Xbox2 before Sony releases PS3, you'd think we'd be hearing somthing about the unit that is actully impressive.
Sadly, if it is just a box with better graphics, and its released before PS3, it will suffer the same fate as Dreamcast (which was a great console, better than the PS2 in my opinion). People will wait for PS3 because there will be no good reason to get an Xbox, especily since the PS3 will probably have the same or better graphics (as is the assumption with any console that is released later).
Microsoft has shown that they can innovate when faced with an uphill battle (browser wars), so I hold out hope that at least some of these rumors are wrong and Microsoft has a killer secret that we dont know of yet that will make the Xbox2 seem much more desierable.
Unix itself is not open source, its more like a specification for an OS, but there are plenty of unix OS's that are not open source and plenty that dont fall under SCO's attack plan. So even if SCO did manage to win it would not destroy UNIX or the open source community (freeBSD comes to mind as a unix OS thats open source and SCO is not targeting, yet...)

It even detected and removed Firefox and my Linux partition. Ad-aware missed those.

Of course, how quickly some forget that M$ is Pure Evil and wants no less than to kill women, rape small children, and eat babies.
