"The reason is that in too many cases you need to understand context to be able to check grammar, and computers can't quite understand natural speech, except in scifi movies."

HAL : I'm sorry, I can't do that Dave.
"Might I ask *you* to please keep this propaganda (garbage) out of a thread for discussions about a *portable gaming system*. If you want to get political, submit a political story. If you're here to game, then bloody well game."
"Of course, part of that has to do with the fact that we're in a bloody war while our economy steadily slides down the pooper, but *still*."
Both made by you, in the same thread:
Whereas I heavily agree with both of the above posts ; I still find it a bit hypocritical.
So in the end, they -are- bugs left in by the developers, that are now being exploited.
So funny how they -are- allowed to update the game, while others (think Thief 3) weren't.
If the excuse is that they are also adding new content, I don't think it's fair to those other developers (who, admittedly, screwed up when shipping a buggy game) are not given that same chance (I bet the developers of Thief 3 wouldn't have minded to add an extra map, just to also ship the bugpatches with it).
I like the policy of MS, regarding the developer's inability to update the game once released, but I think they should be applying that equally to every developer.
The researchers, from the Florida Institute of Technology and Boston-based Security Innovation Inc., defend their process and conclusions as valid. They say they had "complete editorial control over all research and analysis" involved in the project. Their report details their methods, and they invite other experts to examine and duplicate their work.
So has anyone allready taken this to the test ?
As long as there is no counterevidence (besides the obvious evidence from everyday use of both OS's), why allready pass a judgement? (Ok, this -is- Slashdot, I'm not -too- new here)
Allthough I find it dubious, to say the least, to have MS funding this research ; I still think that they should at least try to reproduce the results , and investigate what might have been left out (on purpose) to skew the outcome.
How would one 'cheat' on a console game ?
Anyone knows what cheats are around for Halo 2 ? Or is it stuff the developers forgot to remove and is now being exploited ?
Experienced typists tend to make homophonic mistakes (there/their), prob. because typing is more nearly akin to talking for them.
As a non-native english speaker, I find these mistakes always very strange though:
I guess most of the people will still spellcheck, and when reading through their posts, they should be able to directly recognise 'their'/'there' 'than'/'then' and other, imo, obvious mistakes.
I heard this mentioned before, and I thought because I am a non-native speaker, I have to put more thought into structuring my sentence, instead of headlessly typing it : I am not saying I make more insightful comments, just that I pay more attention so my sentence doesn't get lost in translation.
Then again, I paid attention to this when talking to my (dutch) friends ; and noticed none of them making such homophonic mistakes in my own language (besides the obvious abbreviations which are made intentionally).
My uncle had his -signature- denied on a formal paper (I think it was for a loan/morgage on his house ; Something financial);
His signature excists of yer normal scribble, but the O in his name, has a smiley face (he's very consistent with that:) ).
When the bank noticed his signature they said they could not allow it, and wanted him to re-sign.
After he showed various ID on which his autograph -did- have that smiley, and they -still- wouldn't want to accept it, he turned to another bank, where they did not give him any slack.
I thought I had met every single last closed-minded person when I went to university, but I was wrong. The remaining group went on to author 'articles' for Wikipedia.
Tell that to my friend who is now stuck to a two-year-subscription to some book/cd-club ; After being offered 5 "free" dvd's.
After signing up (by a very cute girl, trying to drown me in the background shouting "don't fall for this ploy, suckah !") he got his five DVD's, of which -all- the titles elude me at the moment:
They were bottom pile crap:) Stuff with Jean Claude van Damme and Steven Seagal(?) were the genre.
'till this day I'm still chuckling when I'm visiting him and seeing those DVD's neatly stuck in the back cabinet:)
Allthough it -is- a sequel, -and- a pretty engine ; It's not all imo:
With them incorporating the Havoc (gravity) engine, they added a great new layer to the fun the game can give.
That, and of course the (mod)community which surrounded HL1 has almost all gone to work with HL2 , which is going to bring an entire new generation of great new games/mods/ideas on the market.
Bit offtopic ; Mods seem to be of great influence, ifnot test-beds these days : Something that's proven in a mod to be fun/succesful, is likely to see the day of light in the next generation games.

Nah , they are talking about the Secret Services, because we have the Internets, right ? ;)

No offense :D
Huh, the article says it's cancelled the competition. :/

I am glad you haven't touched Pacman, or you would have certainly overdosed ;)
hehe, that's how I know the joke too ; Wonder if it has anything to do with being dutch (assuming your dutch too, with your email being from xs4all)

Mike Rowesoft ?
Sell it on eBay ?
You're right there ; I confused those two words there (and prolly have been 'till someone pointed me out it was wrong ;) )

It's a very daring plot (imo) and very well told, and gives you more insight into good ol' tortured Max.
At 0, Flamebait, I guess my assumption of a subtle joke not succeeding was right :)
Ohwait...
Some even became Anonymous Cowards on /.
Then again, I don't have a clue ;) and your 10% sounds more reasonable for an overall use of FF, than the 30% of the grandparent did.
He can still make mousegestures with his nose in Firefox ;)
And while you're at it, also include B, A, and Start, so we can at least enter the Konami code.
So when is this free-ipod shit gonna hit Europe ? :)
Allthough very sceptic about it all ; I -do- have 5 referrals allready lined up
So I would say "No"
