    No. If you know your shit, you'll get hired. There are plenty of guys getting good jobs in computing fields without any formal education. Don't sweat it. Just know what you need to know.

    I like dark meat as much as the next guy, but sometimes its nice not needing to work hard just to chew your meat.

    Hence, the "all white meat bird," which isn't ALL white meat, is a popular choice for me at Thanksgiving. I still love my beef, though!

    That's the thing. I don't know that we need to feed the poor. In everything there is a winner and a loser. It is unescapable. No matter how much money, food, etc we throw at poverty, there will always be someone who has less. As such, I think foreign aide from the countries that have to countries that have not is more than acceptable at its current level.

    ..the more I feel that I should run for an elected office and make my way up to the Senate. I'm absolutely serious. It is obvious on many fronts that our current crop of representatives have no fuckin' idea what the people want. That is what they are there for, right? To represent us?

    Whether it is technological issues, societal issues, foreign policy.. Politicians seem to think that they know what's best.

    Where are the blogs from Senators and other elected officials? Why do they feel that they are using technology effectively when their official website is merely a brochure for themselves maintained by some lackey, some summer "work for free" intern? Seriously.. America, especially the 18-30-something demographic seems to get ignored somewhat. It's bullshit.

    What the hell? UC Berkeley publishs papers with typos in it?

    In our research we used ordinary least squares and more sophisticated linear modeling approaches to assess the statistical properties of e-voting. In particular we develop models that predict both the percentage of the votes registered for the incumbent - President Bush - and the amount that percentage changed between 2000 and 2004.

    English majors these guys are not!

    I was given a card and a form to fill out. I threw the form away and started using the card without any problems. Why don't more fo you do this? I mean, you have disposable email accounts right? WHen you register for one-time things you don't put your real name and number, do you? So why should you start doing so at the supermarket?

    I find it awesome that the digital age is truly coming into being and many revenue models of the past are beginning to feel the pain.. most notably the music industry and the television industry. I mean, just to sit back and watch it all occur from a distance is pretty incredible. How will these two industries adapt to the new environment? Will new companies swoop in and dominate the new landscape? Man..! Economic evolution in progress! How sweet it is. Now, if we cuold get Congress out of the mix and let things run a bit less inhibited.

    Even if it passes, I'm not getting rid of my MythTV box. Once the signal is in my home, I can do what I want with it. If I don't want to watch commercial advertisements, I'm not going to. Whether that means turning the TV off for 3 minutes or letting my MythTV sort it all out for me doesn't really matter. Either way, someone is losing ad revenue on me. Besides, I can't even remember the last purchase I made based on a TV advertisement. The only thing I find useful with commercials are the advertisements for upcoming shows on the History CHannel.

    Computers are fully capable of recognizing people based on an image of the face. We already have inexpensive fingerprint identification (which I find to be wholly acceptable as a means of authentication). I cannot really think of any reason why face recognition hasn't made its way to the desktop. Hell, I just wrote a basic face recognition program for my digital signals processing class! Hrmmm.. perhaps if I began working on this..

    It seems to me that spam is just about unstoppable. As such, I find the best solution to the problem is to run a smart filter that learns as it goes. I run Mozilla Thunderbird and it's bayesian junk filter is damn good. I simply do not get spam in my inbox. I get a false positive once a month or so, but that is certainly acceptable. Yes yes.. That doesn't cut down on the congestion caused by bazillions of spam messages, but eh.. I still get 5 MBps to the house.

    As a proponent of Democracy, I'd like to see the US actually practicing it on the global stage.

    And just why should the US practice global democracy? So your sorry state can have a say in our affairs? How about you ask your neighbor if you acn install an alarm system on your home? How about you ask your neighbor for the right to own and potentially use a gun (gasp!!)?

    Global democracy isn't going to happen until the world's nations decide to unite under one banner and I don't see that happening at all. There are too many different needs and wants for any more than 5 or 6 geographically related countries to join in the manenr you speak of.

    First off.. if kerry had been President at the time, he would have gone to Iraq. The thing is that the President makes decisions based on what his advisors tell him. Besides.. It was Congress who passed the war resolutions! The president can only champion a cause. It's Congress that should get the bad rap. They're too chicken-shit to stand up against the President 'cause they're too scared of losing their seat in office. What we realy need is term limits for Representatives and Senators. Quit your fuckin' griping about the president.
