you missed the part about typing in an admin password. windows doesn't have that additional layer of security on it. You can unarchive and open it under any user account. It will infect the whole computer. with a mac, you can unarchive it and attempt to open it with any user account. but in the end, you can't actually open it without root access. any computer user should immediately suspect something when a jpg requires your system admin password (and I believe in this case it would require the sys admin username and password).

If I have to type in my System Admin password to intall it, then I don't consider it a threat. This seems like a rather lame attempt at a vulnerability. The folks who would be interested in screenshots of 10.5 are the kind of folks who know an archive of photos does not require an admin password.

At least you aren't taking the M$ is evil approach. I appreciate that. As for the comment about the 6 year old... that only applied when I was under the belief that he was 6. Certainly a 6 year old wasn't administrating a linux box. Certainly your 11 year old isn't doing it either. My point was this:

As a 6 year old, he wasn't exactly a power user.

Face it, linux is meant for fanboys.

All he is trying to do is get publishers to show some kind of accountability. Granted, all of the problems aren't the publishers fault. They can't be blamed for stores like EB or Software Etc selling mature games to 10 year old kids.

I see a two fold approach to appeasing Mr Thompson, and a similar model already exists:

    1. Control the advertisement of AO and Mature games the same way liquor and cigarette ads are controlled. This falls on the publisher.
    2. Control the sales through the retailers just like you control the sales of tobacco and liquor. This falls on the retail chains.

The rating system itself can be mandated by a body similar to the MPAA. Get a group of 7 - 13 people onto a committee. Set some ground rules (no one from the industry, all members have to be a parent, reasons must be given for a specific rating, etc). It can work and it doesn't stop the content from being produced. It just mildly regulates it.

No, I read the book. He only supports Jose Canseco (again, self centered) taking steroids. He doesn't tell little kids to go out and take them, not once. I am saying he shouldn't profit from the book because the book is essentially, "..hey kids I took steroids and look at what i did.." and I don't feel that his message is right.

  21. Curt Schilling was right on Juiced · · Score: 1

Señor Canseco is just trying to make money. His baseball career turned to utter shit because of injuries (injuries he says he tried to avoid by taking steroids???) and he really has no other source of income.

But is he really lying? And is everything about this book bad (talking about how steroids helped him, how it helps other professionals = bad influence)? This book is the only reason a congressional hearing was called so they could force a clean up of america's (former) favorite pastime. Without this book we wouldn't have known that MLB was lying about (or at least hiding) the dirty secret of its steroid testing program (pay a fine instead of serving the time).

I applaude Jose for coming forward, I just think his method was a bit self-centered. Perhaps he should donate portions of the books profits to an anti-drug program for youth athletes to make up for it. It will certainly help clean up his image.
