I was working for a place were i could do 80% of the work at home.
But the people I was working for did not like the idea.
The only time i did work at home is during a bad snow storm were it was not safe to drive the 150 Km to work.
THe job was building control panels and pc boards as well as PLC programing.
With that job I just needed to be in the office/work space for install and final testing so it could be shiped out and pick up the next pile of parts ect.
I could build the units faster at home with less distractions The dreaded phone ect.
Saveings for the company one less workspace/office needed
In the end the company when belly up because of cost over runs office space ect.
I for one don't miss the 2 hour average drive to work and back home.
Now I work nearby travel 10 minutes to work and do some part time repair work at home for a sound and lighting company.
Making more money because im not burning up 160 dollars in gas a week and the car will last longer. As well as enjoying more home time with my family.
I also do a part time bussness at home now restoring old records and 78 ect as well.( got more time because of less travel)
If more people would and could telecommut it would do a lot for the planet. and the quailty of life.
But some have the old school mentalaty if not in the office not working but if you got someting to show at the end of the week. EI control panels to install or paperwork done and brought in so you can pick up the next batch/work list.
Send them an invoice or bill for the four hours labor at 25 dollars an hour.
Also any lost revenue if it was used for your income.
Send a copy of it to them and then one to the press, your member of parlement or Congressman/senator

Sony bought the DRM. and should be in jail for lying about I disagree and installs anyway.(should only install on I agree button).
But Microsoft in some of there EULA's have had clauses saying we can update DRM at any time. and you can find out at our website...but by then its to late. For some reason they don't tell you at the time of the update.
I just did a some recording for my fiencee's sons band and a rapper which is a freind.
Lets break down costs.
Mackie board VLZ1642 which i already own. was 1300 canadian. Rented mics, (combanation of Apex, Shure, EV and Sennheiser)stands and a snake for 140 Canadian total I had them for 4 days. (Easter weekend) IF I bought them it would be a total of 2000 dollars plus Canadian.
Funny thing is that you can take some of the cheaper mics hack them and make them sound great.
Plus monitors for play back and talk back in the studio / band room from the control room.
Sound card ESI julie@. 160 US. (came with mackie traction 1.6) can record 4 tracks at a time at the moment. DAW 1200 Canadian. (old needs to be replaced)
I also have external EQ's and compressers. (2000 Canadian) I also have a good repore with the place I rent mics from. (Pro audio dealer) Can always test drive new products so i can give him feed back. I also lend him my stuff for shows ect. (mostly lighting gear)
Want to get a Mackie F400 firewire unit would allow 8 tracks at a time. 700 Canadian. 4 mic pres and 4 line in
sound treatment priceless..(quilts nailed up on the wall) You don't need to totaly kill the rooms acustics. You also don't have to play by the rules eather... by not doing you may create a distinctive sound for the band.
If you realy start looking at the dollars you quickly start to relize that it does not cost alot to get a recording that no one will tell were it was recorded or how.
Here is an expample. Done by one person playing a Madolin and a acustic guitar. Recorded on that weekend. may not be every bodies taste but thats a personal thing. most Ive talked to like it.
I often put a burnt disk in my car deck or at a freinds place most like the music not even knowing the artist funny most coment on how clean it sounds (music is you eather like it or hate it..personal taste issue)
and I know were if the songs are recorded well, which is possable in a home studio.
I can get 1000 pressed CD's for 1250 canadian. Thats just 1.25 each with artwork jewel case ect.
So I think what is happaning is that the cost of production equipment is going down. There is some great equipment out there at a good cost.
So more and more can doit in there home or hobby studio cutting out alot of the production houses big studios.
I have to admit there has to be skill on the side of the artist and the sound engineer.
Plus direct to MP3 download store and P2P are good advertizing. For creating MP3 based songs you won't need thousands of dollars worth of equipmemt since its degreaded when compressed to what ever you use OGG, MP3 ect.
Plus if the band plays live they could sell the CD for 10.00 dollars and make a tidy profit. if they covered 1250 and paid the studio 1 a disk sold That would give them 7750 profit of the disk. not bad when you think of it.
A little off topic. this is why they want to plug the analog hole for audio and vidio. to stop independents releasing there own stuff (people in basement studios ect)

DRM modified: you need to DRM you music so it can play new players wont play non DRM disks that would Make it hard to do anything indipendent licencing costs to the RIAA ect
not that it would fly but interesting thought just the same.
There loosing control there trying to regain it but there dieing a slow lingering death. they never adopted new ideas and ways to make music available to the masses. the way the masses wanted it. Also trying to stick to the formulas were the music sounds all the same (Yuck).
How to not market your music...Sue the customer...DRM....Don't give the people what they want and how. sell at over priced levels.
I Do have DVD's and a DVD player. When i got them I did not know about DRM, Regein coding ect. But....I know alot more then I did back then and most are in that boat. I find that I can have Component out, Composite out and S-vidio out. DVD is fine for me.
No down rezzing as with the HD-DVD and Blue ray. and the DRM in them is more evil. dont have to trash my 32in lcd tv eather because it wont be compatible. The standard DVD is going to be around for a longer then they would like you and i to beleive.
On a foot note I also make DVD audio disks for some of my records so i can set the sample rate to. 192khz/24bit instead of 44.1/16 DVD audio is better the CD audio. I restore old recordings.....sad to say its safer to put a record on then a CD these days. I wont buy any copy controled/DRM disks.... But if the record is out i will buy it even if its more money best part is no DRM I do beleive in supporting the artists.

but i bet that 78 could still be played.

No Need for the middle men....... I do love music and respect the artists more then the RIAA/CRIA/MPAA ect. by buying the music i like....(DRM'D disk is a lost sale)...they dont look at them that way.
Think what your saying is right. since i got a quote for 1000 CDs pressed for a buck 25. after the recording ect. and i could and will use p2p to advertize there scared very scared

Emusic plus is no DRM. But thats it.
All pay for down load sites suck.
The play back qualaty sucks in all formats ogg , mp3, acc. etc.
All its doing is getting us used to poor sounding audio.
I would love a site that has songs at 44.1khz at 16 bit wav.
Yes its a big file but you get the real deal but then it can not compete with Vinyl records.
But it is a compramise I would make.
On a foot note I do rip my Vinyl and CD's to 160 mp3 for the car(my deck will only suport WMA or Mp3's) it's good there but not at home.

I find this sorta funny never realy did agree with the 2 months salary ect and the dimond hype.
This past Chirstmas I propossed to my sweetie with a 150 year plus 5 stone amathist ring from my mothers side.
