We don't respect mechanics because we, and our friends, have been lied to by mechanics so many times. Either about what needs to be repaired, what they broke while they were repairing something else, etc.

Yes, there are some shifty mechanics (as in all professions), but the majority are good honest workers. The biggest problem is the people who bring in their crap cars, and compain when something breaks that was completly unrelated to the work being done. ---> "Hey. I only wanted my tires rotated, and the engine threw a rod.... It's the mechanic's fault!!!"

People also think they know more than the expert, and try to tell the mechanic how to do their job.

Think about this one.... Doctors probably have it easier, since they only have one make and two models to work on. Not so for mechanics. :-)

What do you do when the paint has become saturated? I suppose some care might need to be taken to dispose of it?

Well, you could start by RTFA. The titanium breaks down the gasses into nitric acid that is converted to harmless carbon dioxide, water and calcium nitrate by carbonate particles. These are then washed away by the rain. When the carbonate particles break down (five years in heavily polluted areas), the paint will keep converting the gas to nitric acid that still washes away.

Sounds like a great idea to me.

I don't know what the obsession with Mars is either. It's so close to Earth anyway. I'd rather know what's out in the farther reaches of space. We don't know much about what's beyond our own solar system. Let's send some robots to the deepest reaches of space and see what's there.

Last time I checked, babies needed to learn how to crawl before learning how to run a 6-minute mile.

How about we take some baby steps first? Or....Lets wait the thousands of years it would take to get a probe to even the closest star, let alone "the deepest reaches of space". That would be a REAL waste of time.
