I have a dream. I have a dream that content creators will find it easier and easier to retain the rights to their works instead of being coerced into signing them away to a 3rd party.
If large monolithic recording companies and their associations didn't con the artists into handing over the rights to their labor in the first place, none of this would be an issue. Hopefully the industry will change and allow the artists more freedom over their work while still being able to make a living.
I still support Ron Paul and am very vocal in proposing him as a choice to my many family, friends and customers who do vote.
Do you have many customers left? The last thing I'd want to hear when I'm buying something is the salesperson's politics.
That reminds me of the age check for Leisure Suit Larry back in the day... Who knew that the desire of a horny teen to see pixellated boobs would lead to history research?
Slashdot should really give posters an option to preview their post before they actually submit it. It would save people like me from submitting a comment with rogue words in it, for example.
Oh? They already do have that? Heh, sure enough, there it is...
There's a slight problem with your analogy there. We all know the internet is not like a bunch of trucks. I believe, and you can correct me if I'm wrong, that it's like a series of tubes.
Is it only in the technology world where it seems that vendors and their customers are more like adversaries? Is there any other realm where the manufacturer demonizes the very people that buy the products that pay the rent? I'm sure the fact that 0s and 1s are easy to replicate makes this standoff easy to achieve but it's to point where a valid business model would include giving something away and then suing everyone to pay the bills. Of course, it already is a business model, I suppose.
When it comes to patent trolls, the music and movie industry, and software producers it just seems like they are able to get away with treating their customers like dirt more than anywhere else.
I thought in science there are facts and then there are theories to explain those facts. In other words, there is the fact that thing evolve and the theory of natural selection explains how they evolve. So not only are we confusing the terms evolution and natural selection, we're misapplying the term "theory".
As I take it, no one was kicking religious people. I read that as more of an indictment of our school boards and administrators developing policy based on popularity with the parents. If our children are being taught anything besides what's widely accepted in the scientific community etc., what hope do they really have? School boards are way too sensitive to popular opinion.
Maybe I wasn't entirely clear with my point. I realize Hollywood has tried to substitute good special effects for good acting, good plot, and good writing for quite awhile now (Pearl Harbor and George Lucas, anyone?).
I just don't want the accessibility of good special effects to do the same thing to amateur and indie films... I don't want it to be a crutch for them too.
Looks like a good time to revisit one of my favorite sayings when it comes to special effects in movies: just because you can doesn't mean you should.
While I can appreciate the ability for those outside of the big Hollywood blockbuster to create decent effects, let's not lose sight of plot and character.
Maybe we should be taking notes from the gun nut lobby and do a 180 on how to deal with terrorism in the skies. After all, an armed cabin is a polite cabin.
Try not to take it too hard, but when some of us are talking about how RIAA artists are mostly crap, it's bands like Nickelback that we're talking about and serve as a perfect example.
If Iran were to use a nuke outside of its borders, it would be annihilated by more than one country. No Iranian would want that to happen, much less the ones in power.
Religion is a tool to control the masses. Power is what matters to Iran's leadership, not religion. You can't wield power if your country is wiped off the map.
I tend to tune out people that argue it's a given that Iran will use the first nuke it makes against Israel or some other nation.
And that's the craziness about this whole situation. Before: FISA is over-reaching and unconstitutional. After: Let's get back to something with accountability like FISA.
Kind of like people complaining about gas being $2.50 per gallon then jacking the price up to $3.50 and suddenly $3.00 seems awesome!
Well said. A policy preventing the sharing of passwords is not just for security reasons but for accountability reasons as well.

It looks like someone either forgot to pay that judge off!

Maybe this kind of exposure is good to illuminate some of the shortcomings of our patent system.
Is there even a "Theory of Evolution"?

You realize some might see this as a challenge? Wait, now that I responded, I can't mod that post up?!
Actually, the original poster's idea of science is right. We come up with theories and then accumulate data to try and prove those theories wrong.
I mean really, are there any legitimate reasons to use something like nmap?
...and yes, that "ladies" part was a joke too.
Yes, ladies and gents, that was sarcasm.
Can you smell the smug wafting out of an Apple store like you can smell the nerd wafting out of the video game store?

Thankfully all of us that have eMule installed are downloading purely legal files.

It would be funny if the House of Bush got taken down by a CD-R and a copyright violation. After all, Al Capone got nabbed on tax fraud.
So... they found sand?
