is with guns. Piracy is ship to ship armed robbery and kidnapping. All the DRM and Instant Pop in the world won't stop piracy. Sony should hire some mercs or have their navy escort the ships.
Sony, if you are having trouble with pirates petition your government to have the Japanese navy escort your shipping vessels. Or hire mercenaries to stand guard on your ships. Ship to ship armed robbery is much less likely against a ship that is armed. Most pirates are cowards. Shoot back and they're likely to leave you alone.
Most plants are sentient. They turn to face the sun. Insects are certainly sentient. It's how they find food and mates, and how they avoid harm. There are some slime molds that seem to be aware of their environment.
Gov'ts sensor. Companies/groups do not. These folks are just editing a classic to avoid being sued by NCAACP and to avoid admitting the Civil War was about slavery.
i'm looking forward to GW2. i liked GW1 until i couldn't solo anymore. i LOVED the hyperinstancing that allow the quests i do to STAY DONE.
i've been in the beta for Rift and it's neat. TONS of dynamic events happening all the time. The combat is much crunchier (more complex/detailed) than WoW. The quest stuff is largely the same old.
Then there's PlanetSide. It's and MFPS (not an MRPG), it's radically different from other FPSs and MRPGs. PlanetSide 2 is in the works for this year.
You're painting with a broad brush. Not all Methodists/atheist feel superior.
It's not always about feeling superior, it's often a frustration with talking to a wall. Both are saying "it's so OBVIOUS".
We could take the easy way out and say "both sides are bad, LOLOOLLO!", but only one camp actually has reason on its side. The other has blind faith. Views are not all equally valid. It's possible to have strong faith and be totally wrong. In fact it happens quite a bit, mostly because any position based on faith is arrived upon without reason, logic or evidence. It's like building on a swamp. A reasonable person can say "the castle is sinking in the swamp". The faithful person refuses to acknowledge what their eyes and soggy shoes tell them....
"protect the Right to a Free Press is also very good"
Wikileaks isn't press. Assange is not a journalist. They are unaccountables with a website where anyone can post any crap they like. That's not journalism.
Journalists are accountable. They can be fired and blacklisted if they break the ethics they were taught while seeking a journalism degree. Journalists also know that it's illegal to publish classified information.
They aren't heroes, they're a bunch of angsty teens who think they are sticking it to the man. What they are really doing is playing with fire. Someone's going to get burned because these children are trying to play a game for grown ups.
All weapons are designed to be defensive, some people use them for offense. That's the fault of the wielder not the designer or the weapon itself. A thing is neither good nor bad, but thinking makes it so. Much like a hammer is designed to drive nails, but someone could use it in anger to cause harm for selfish reasons. And sometimes the exactly right thing to do *is* to kill. If it's him or me, i've every right in the world to make sure it's NOT me (or the people i care about). That might mean killing him.
The best defense is often the ability to carry out offense. If you know that i can smite you from afar you'll look for a different victim. If you know that i'll smite you from afar for attacking that other victim, you might just give up on aggression and play nice. The trouble comes when the ambitions/desperation outweigh the deterrent (or the deterrent isn't used). There's also a defensive value in going on the offense. The attacker choses the time and place of battle, the defender may only react. It's better (for you) to have the bombs falling on their land than yours.
Landmines are particularly fucked, as weapons go. It can't tell ally from enemy or innocent from combatant. They don't know when the fight has ended. Until we are friendly with Cuba and Korea is peaceful the US will have minefields and oppose the ban. i hope that will happen in my lifetime.
Assange and the Wikileaks crew are NOT journalists. They host a site where any crackpot can post whatever. Journalists have to take ethics classes, are members of associations, are employed and can therefore be fired (and blacklisted) if they misbehave. Wikileaks is trying to have their cake of free speech to attack their enemies and eat it too in the form of avoiding accountability. It's wrong for the same reason vigilantism is wrong. Even if we like the idea that bad guys are being beat up in dark allies, the vigilante is unaccountable and can decide who is bad on a whim. For similar reasons, illegally obtained evidence is excluded. If we allow it, we encourage it.
Publishing classified information is illegal (regardless of how they received it). This is one of those things prospective journalists learn in journalism 101. If the intel officer hands them stuff with a SECRET cover sheet, they know better than to publish it. Wikileaks is just so happy to attack the tall poppy they ignored the consequences to themselves and those they would endanger.
Wikileaks hasn't committed treason, but it seems pretty likely they've violated US law.
phase out TLDs.
What do you mean by "mandate"? You seem to be using it in way that doesn't match my understanding of the word.
So you're cool with the Serbian genocide?
Question marks mark questions.
Slashdot,
You've been at this for years. Can you fix that bug, please?

iPad owners would have no interest in Playboy. Give 'em Playgirl.

Governments censor. Companies have every right in the world to not carry something.

The FF plugin Web of Trust warns that this shortener site is dangerous.
When i was in the USAF dorms this game drew a crowd. i never played it, i just huddled around the big screen and cheered.
My only frustration with multiplayer console games is the splitting. They should have console LAN systems. Maybe they do already.
Trying to raise the Windows average.

All presidents in living memory have used (and depended on) teleprompters. Can we stop pretending this is something new or meaningful?

These systems remind me of the GI Joe PAC/RATS.
He can be enthusiastic, but he cannot be "enthused".
"But but but it's in the dictionary, LLOOLLOLO!"
Most dictionaries are written by descriptivists who record how language is used, even if it is wrong.
