If this is the case (which I really doubt), then AMD will finally make a comeback. Even if it is the case, Intel changes its stupid socket like every 6 months now, making upgrading impossible anyway. So for all intents and purposes the CPU could come sodered to the MB and would really be of little import. In fact many buy they CPU/MB in combos anyway. I assume the Intel isn't about to cut out 3rd party makers (they would be hit with antitrust if they did), in which case it is all moot anyway, as you would still have all the selection of enthusist boards. If anything Intel has been very GOOD to enthusists in making the "K" series of CPU with multipliers unlocked, which is a new thing, that hasn't been available for some time. Provided the CPU that comes sodered to the MB is not dumbed down... but that likely depends on the MB it is attached to. I would hate to see only "K" series or whatever being sodered to only the most expensive MB available, while the budget MB get similar CPU... In any event, I really doubt this. Maybe for OEM's or limited runs... I have seen this already, I don't see why the buisness need for it now. Anyway the devil is in the details, and how they implement this, could go a number of different ways. If they make it a pile of suck, and AMD doesn't do it, then of course everyone will just move to AMD. If they do it smart, it will probably have very little impact whatsoever.
At some point the courts or the government of those courts should be going after these media assoications for abuse of both the legal system and police services. Think of all the time and money wasted on frivolous lawsuits and police resource time for these idiots. Tying up the court time, and police time for this garbage.
They are basically using the courts and poliece as their hired thugs to extort money from people.
Though I am sure if big media ever does have to pay, they will simply tack that loss onto their piracy "statistics" as to how much money is lost due to piracy. They fact that they have gotten away with the behavior for this long is crazy.
It was reported earlier the same story where he was contacted, and he responded with a letter, with a picture of the winnie the pooh laptop in question. That has made the rounds of the internet sites, including slashdot.
I read this as the farther did not comply with the blackmail, the media thugs then went and contacted poliece after reciving the letter, who then raided the home and took the laptop.
This seems to be in line with how crazy the media assoications are. The letter was sent in regards as to how ridiclous the claim was, pointing out that the file in question was downloaded by a 9 year old on her winnie the pooh laptop, and that persuing legal action against that is silly.
They only thing they have gotten themselves here is a PR nighmare should the news actually ever make it to mainstream media and not just fringe news sites on the internet. Seriously what were they thinking, they couldn't make themselves look worse particulary with all the crazy litigation they have done in the past. Hopefully this gives them another black eye in front of larger public who will hopfully start to take notice and start to care about this kind of behavior.
If this is about attendence, why not just take attendance at class like they have been since the first school since the dawn of time. Its not like this is a hard thing to do. Why the need for an RFID tag anyway. People already carry around ID if that is the concern. Why waste money on RFID tags and lawsuits and spend more money on books. Anyway I don't see the big deal about it either way for or against.
Like Obama being a non-US citizen mulisum. Or like Jesus coming to the Ozarks, or Jesus in general for that matter. Or that totally giving the super rich more money will like totally make them spend more money, which will somehow help the poor people. Or that like Evolution isn't like a thing. Or like ya man, less regulation of our finicinal markets it so the way to go, the invisible hand of captiolism is totaly rad. Or a thousand other things...
Anyway not sure why I ended up talking like a ninja turtle, but I was in Dallas last week and watched some FOX "news" programming in the hotel room. I mean sure North Korea is the best Korea for the brainwash, however USA is no slouch. It might just not be as obvious as it isn't coming from one raving loon of a nutjob, it is coming from a whole army of loony nutjobs.
This has been going on a very very long time. It was around when I was in school (which was a long time ago), and it certainly predates me. I am not saying that something should not be done about it, only that this is an old problem. It has some new twists with new technology as we have seen in the last few years. However the physical stuff is pretty much the same. I imagine the problem is the same now as it was when I was in school, teachers couldn't do a whole hell of a lot unless it was blatent enough of being done right in front of them. In many cases, they are powerless to do anything, or are fearful of getting sued or fired for taking action. I learned pretty early to fight back, bullies don't like that, particulary every now and then when you actually hurt them back. Perfect example was where I was getting cronically bullied, and then one day during one such session, I managed to kick him in the balls as hard as I could. The only reprimand I got from teachers was "I shouldn't kick a guy there" (no suspension or anything), but they all knew what was going on, and I got the impression that they looked the other way a little bit in my benefit (inaction can go both ways). The bully was out of school for several days. Anyway it isn't for everyone, but sooner or later you have to stand up for yourself and defend yourself, you can always depend on someone else to arbitrate it away. In a perfect world kids wouldn't have to worry about that stuff, but we live in anything but, we should take reasonable measures to minimize this activity, but I doubt you will ever be rid of it. Certainly enabling teachers with some legal protection might be a good first step, as that seems to a common thread.
I bought a 2TB WD for 69.99 pre-flood. They are still about 100$ right now (95.99$). So yeah, 30-35% over what they used to cost.
About the only glimmer of hope is that the 3TB has come down in price to about 130$ (129.99$).
So the 3TB is 0.043 a GB and the 2TB is 0.05 a GB whereas it was 0.035 for a 2TB pre flood.
So in larger format drives it is still approching the older pricing at a somewhat faster rate.
That said, the unwritten rule about just about ANY computer technology is that wait a few months and whatever it is will be cheaper. HD's have bucked that trend due to the flood, and the (all) companies profiteering from it. That is what you get when you have an industry that has consolidated and consolidated until there are only a few companies out there. The BIG question out there is if there is any intentional collusion going on to keep prices high, much like just about everyone suspects of oil, but nothing is ever done.
Exactly. Not sure what the Navy was thinking, but you can buy this kind of PR (or did they? adjusts tinfoil hat). I mean I never even heard of it, nor would I care if I did use Seal consultants. However WTF did they share with EA that was deserving of getting diciplined? Now I want to play the game just to try and figure out what the whole secret is about!
From my experiance "Bob" probably had to piece his system together from nothing, which is why he is the only one who knows how it works. I am pretty confident if the "board" authorized some resources for Bob to properly update his system, he would be more than happy to do so. I think I would be pretty pissed if I were Bob as well, if someone came along and said, oh you should do it this way, but we are not giving you any resourses to work with.
You know what my response would be? You want to start using Google Docs? Then start using them, you do it. Go ahead. Have fun. In the meantime when you fail, I'll keep this system running so we arn't completely fscked. If you want to do this properly, give me the funds, and I will build and migrate the entire system into a real modern document managment system, but guess what? It isn't free, and in fact it will be rather expensive. So make your decision and stop bitching.
One small change they could make (and this could take the form of copyright reform also) is to do something about the cost of books in sciences. Anyone that takes both arts and sciences know there is a HUGE differance. Arts books typically were numerous, but very low cost, and also available used most of the the time, and I never thought they were a big cost. Science books are big, single, and typically NOT available used, usually by some BS scheme, and cost a ton of money. If you are taking all science course, simply buying all the books is a pretty big burden by themselves. I recall one year at college (quite a few years ago mind you) where a semester cost me 900$ tutition, and 1200$ on books alone. My books were MORE expensive than all the classes I was taking. Typically each book would be between 100-200$, and sometimes more, and sometimes there were multiples.
So if you are looking to so something subtle, yet meaningful to *promote* science, particulary in an education setting, do something about the cost of the science books students need to buy. Either subsidize those rather than tutition, or better yet rather than just throwing money at a broken system, fix the system by introducing copyright reform preventing companies from taking advantage of students.
Anyway not having studied the issue, this seems like a small but obvious thing to do that would likely help a great deal.
Then again, the simple fact that they are granting an interview to a church magizne pretty much makes my point.
If Bible Weekly came to a Canadian politician other than the nutters, they wouldn't be getting an interview I don't think, particularly from a party leader.
I know he is supposed to be a leftist democrat, however if any politician up here ever gave such a speech I would assume them a right wingnut from the Canadian Heritage Party (christran right wing party in the west). Basically loony toons that get no votes.
And this guy was your "normal" guy... The differences between Canada and the US couldn't be more stark.
I have no doubt that our PM is likely more religious than many of our previous PM's, however likely they most that would be said about it might be "yes I believe in god, and that is a private affair for myself and my family".
Either we are more secular, or more private... either way religion has little if any role in our politics. The day ANY party starts a sermon, is the day they forever lose my vote.
Yeah, I recall because in the last election so many posts on FB and tweets of results came out they were thinking they might need to modify or re-interprete the law, as it was orginally made for "broadcasters" such as radio, tv, etc... but not with technology connecting everyone so easily, it is becoming an issue. I don't think anyone individual has been taken to court over tweeting results just yet...
Big endorsement by Steam for Ubuntu distro. This could be the start of the "Year of the Linux Desktop", and it has a name: Ubuntu.
Seriously, the number 1 problem with Linux was it doesn't support games made for Windows (very well anyway). Ease of use it still a bit of an issue, but it has largely been solved over the years. Linux is easier than ever, and people are more technological savvy (well some more are anyway).
The fact that so many indie game makers use Steam, makes me wonde if those most agile companies won't try to take this market in a big way. I mean it is one thing if you have to compete with the big boys, but if given a distrabution system into a whole new market, where they big guys basically gave up on? Just the compitition it will bring, will make it interesting.
Anyway I hope it does launch, and is good, as it can only mean better outcomes for all gamers. Imagine if MS actually had to compete for buisness?!
You never put your data on cloud services physically located in the USA.
Many companies now, offer their software up as licencing so you can run it in your home country on your own servers, so as to NOT be applicible to USA (crazy) law. Then again in my opinion, that largely defeats the purpose of the whole cloud thing, but hey whatever...
Hey if they can sue 9 year olds and grandmothers, what do you think will stop them from suing sheep and bears?

Or you could you know try and solve the whole rampent poverty situation so people wouldn't be inclined to steal copper wire to try and make a living.
auto-targeting mini-guns would also work, but are only slightly less ridiclous.
Bueller. Bueller. Bueller.

However SAM vapourized it in studying it, so now it no longer exists. Until we can find some more to vapourize.

The Supreme Court of Canada is made up of old men who arn't dumb.
Ha! Cheap penis drugs for everyone!
Soooo....
18M Galaxy IIIS sold 3rd quarter
16M iPhone 4S sold 3rd quarter
So therefor Samsung has the "lead" over apple...
However:
"The Apple iPhone 5 has gotten off to a solid start already with an estimated 6.0 million units shipped globally during Q3 2012"
So if you add the 6+16 you get 23M to 18M...
Ya ya it is a "different" phone... anyway not exactly as protrayed.
