N900 would have GPS assist not a true GPS. You could use GPS via cell towers to triangulate position. Not sure about your bluetooth. Depends on how dense the tree cover is.

I know some wippersnappers would be talking about accuracy, and they would be arguing about 30cm stuff, and I would cut them off saying that it was me walking with an external antenna that's a meter long, and the point is where the signal is received not where the device is actually located, so its moot.

GPS does not work through solid objects period. Cell with GPS assist in a 3G area, however might work, not as accurate, but for their purposes likely... however a hog on the battery life, which is probably why they found the thing as apparently it had a battery pack the size of a large pipe bomb, and even then would have a very limited effective time span, not exactly the best design.

Well in terms of hosting, just about anywhere. The only cravat is that since it is a physical system, some physical person qualified needs to be there to run it. I mean technically you can run it all remotely, some someone has to be there for physical upgrades, maintenance, security, etc....

Most will be served by internet type companies, like hosting services, and network companies, however if you are a big company and don't want to be dependent on somebody else, then you would have to make, and staff your own. Which means moving staff to the new location, or hiring locals. Hiring locals only works if there is enough supply to meet demand. I suspect in 10-20 years this won't be a problem in most places.

Now that is not to say that once the US sees a mass exodus and the accompanying loss of control that it won't start moderating some of the crazy policies that seem to be coming up the last couple of years. I don't think I am along, when I think most companies wouldn't really appreciate some of the internet kill switch, homeland security DNS auto take down, court ordered no privacy BS, etc... policies that seem to be accumulating. Not to mention the whole media industry trying to do all sorts of nasty things to the network for their own ends.

At some point it will hit a threshold, where companies will be making the decision about risk and draconian policies VS the cost and ease of implementation. As soon as that starts tipping in the direction of cheaper, easy, safe, and less hassle, you can bet companies will start moving in droves. Once it starts, those that move will then likely have a competitive advantage, which will then spur on more to move in a snowball effect. Question is will the government see this trend in the next 10 years and do anything about it?

    Yes it would.

Though after commenting, I realized what they are likely doing is using a cell, GPS-assist and 3G to do it. While you wouldn't get a GPS signal down there, you could use a cell with GPS-assist to triangulate location from GPS cell towers, and transmit location data via 3G.

Pretty soon the US is going to see all parts of the internet hosted on non-US soil, to avoid all the US BS. Companies will follow suit. As will Jobs.

Then the US will just be a tiny speed bump on the information superhighway. I mean the great thing about the internet is that it is distributed, it doesn't actually have to exist in a certain place and thus be subject to its stupid laws. Just move the physical bits somewhere nicer.

To be honest I am not sure how it worked, unless they ran an antenna... GPS requires line of sight to satellites to actually work. Probably some super secret FBI technology!

Also how would they get the data out of it? Radio? Unlikely. It probably has a physical datalogger attached to it, which would require an agent to actually go and retrieve it. Its not like they are repositioning satellites to watch you in real time like Enemy of the State or anything. Unless they have some magic FBI technology (which I would suggest they do not), this is fairly passive intelligence. Which is why they want it back, because otherwise they have nothing.

Ya I did the calculations as well its pretty ridiculous and hypocritical to offer someone a 12MB/S account, with a MONTHLY Data up/down CAP of 60GB.

So that's 720MB/Min or 43200MB/Hour. So if you take 60000/43200, that's 1.38 hours of time before you exceed your Monthly CAP. That Doesn't even include Uploads, which you are also on the hook for. So even assuming that they are totally full of BS, and your 12MB account really can only every do half of that, that's still only about 3 hours of time until you are over your CAP paying 1.25$ a GB.

My favorite example was that it is actually cheaper the buy the most expensive SSD drive on the market, fill it full of data, and snail mail it to yourself, and when you get it, download the data, and throw the SSD away. If that is the actual state of our broadband, then it is being horribly mismanaged and should be taken away.
