We have to consider how many resources it would take to put out a Linux client versus how many people would actually use something like that. We have to consider how many people aren't playing WoW right now and would if we had a Linux client. Or is it people who play already and just want support in their preferred operating system? If we decided to support a new platform, we would have to figure out how many game features we had to give up development on in order to develop a new client."
This is classic chicken and the egg problem. If they did do it the only negative thing that would happen is they would seriously piss off Microsoft. Then again Blizzard has enough clout not they can probably not care.
The reason why probably 50% of people use some flavor of Windows as opposed to Linux is the inability of Linux to play games. Sure you can screw around with it until it does, but it is a pain in the ass if you can even do it. Now there are a lot of people that really only play one video game really, and that game is WOW. So in one move you could drastically increase the user base of Linux. Hell they could even create their OWN Linux distribution that is optimized for WOW. The could sell their own computers with it pre-installed... hell pre-install WOW as well, hell integrate it right into the OS and sell that... They know the game requirements better than anyone, so selecting system specs would also be easy, and again they would have the clout to make things happen they want to happen... aka "hey ATI, make me a WOW optimized vid card thks k bye!". Anyway I am just saying that I think they are dismissing the linux option too easily by simply saying it is a "resource VS user base" equation. The equation is much bigger than that and they would potentially be able to enter some new markets if they so wished it. Perhaps they don't, perhaps they want to stay in their core business. Nothing wrong with that, but that is not to say that if they did this they could stay core all the like and a third party company could come in and take that profit machine. Anyway just a few thoughts on that... I really think it would be in their best interest to go with linux and wow, and I am certainly not a linux fanboi.
I can't buy one you insensitive clod, I live in Canada!
Yet another reason to re-examine how our telecommunication companies up here operate. They are actively degrading the telecommunications and technological advancemnt of Canada. This is plainly not in our best interests, and quite possibly a national security risk. In short, they suck.
How many manufactures are going to build these things. I know they are wildly popular due to cost, but come on, they are all the same.
They all use the same hardware. They all pretty much use the same software. Some look slightly different, maybe.
Atom 1.6ghz. 1GB RAM. 160GB HD. Wifi etc... big honking deal.
Maybe they will change something who knows.
I also notice that it has a HDMI port for HD out... um why? Other than you brag you have it I see this as somewhat useless. Will it have video that can handle HD? Likely not. Will it have a HD that you can store lots of HD stuff on? Not really. Will it have a BluRay optical drive? Um No. Is watching HD on a 10 in screen stupid? Likely yes.
No idea what HSDPA is? Though it says (3.5G) which sounds like a cell network protocol. Which is great if it is in your area, of which they likely only cover metro areas or 2% of the actual area...
Oh yeah and 12 hours battery life? OK at this point EVERYONE knows they all lie through their teeth about battery time, but really do you think we are all stupid now. Have we gotten the the point where the lies don't have to be plausible. All they need now is some disclaimer someplace that says that it was tested with nothing running, the power off, closed, and that is the natural dissipation rate of their battery and includes no usage, or in other words a totally pointless and worthless test of capability.
Also like any action type film the "professionally trained" soldiers seem to have a hard time hitting the broadside of a barn from within the barn. I always sort of laugh inside when Ben and Luke go back to find his parents killed and Ben says "Only Imperial stormtroopers are so precise", I sort of imagine he is saying it sarcastically...
I think he is referring to the fact that the "armor" wasn't very good at stopping anything from Ewok thrown rocks to laser and blaster fire.
As a uniform I would say it was successful in that it was scary looking, but it seemed like it might as be made out of tinfoil (which actually may have been more effective).
A buddy of mine has VOIP through the cable company. His modem broke. No internet or phone for more than a week before they sent someone to fix it. On top of that he lives in a building that opens the security door via phone, so no visitors either. LOL. HE was also looking for a job at the time. Had to call back all his places and give them his girlfriends phone number (he has no mobile)...
It has its uses, just not for me. I have been landline free for half a decade now and have never looked back. Pretty much two things lead to this:
1) I don't want to pay two big bills thanks. This has a lot to do with how our payment is structured, and how our telcos really rip us off. Reduce the costs, combine billing, etc... if you want to solve this one. Fault is with greedy telcos.
2) I don't want 10 calls a day from telemarketers. Near the end I was getting about twice as many calls from telemarketers as I was real people. Why am I paying for someone to advertise to me and wasting my time and annoying me? Why? Telemarketers have been taking advantage of the system for years and it has gotten progressively worse. Laws need to be put into place. They tried too little too late... and to top it off it is pretty toothless and unenforced with most just ignoring the no call lists. So this is partly the fault of the regulators, and party the greedy telcos again....
I bet if you fix both those issues many will either keep their landline or go back to having both.
Many times I find myself not actually trying to spell the word, but rather trying to trick MS word into spelling it for me. One thing I have noticed lately, and the respective companies may want to stand up and take notice, is that if I type something into google search it does a way better job of spell checking than MS Word by a fair margin. Perhaps this has to do with the search algorithm, perhaps it has to do with online resources. In either case I don't see why this won't come to pass. I am online 99% of the time when on a computer these days anyway. Perhaps Google Docs should notch it up a bit and knock off MS.
Anyway the other point, is that MS Word is American. Default install and dictionary is American. I mean American English. I am Canadian. I spell color like colour, or at least I am supposed to. However even now "colour" has a damn red line under it saying it is incorrect. I think this will have a profound effect on the English language over the years as more and more people depend on it... it will homogenize the English language for good or ill to the American default. Sure I bet there are language packs, and alternate installs, but no one uses them, or they are a pain in the ass etc... Anyway just another reason to say MS is evil I guess.
With all these hybrids etc... there seems to be some confusion as to the actual point of them, both from the consumer and the people that make these things.
Is the point A) to reduce the amount of fuel used and thus your dependence on oil and your check book at the end of the day or
B) To reduce your environmental impact on the world.
These do not always co-exist together. People also tend to overlook the total life cycle of these things as well as not looking at the big picture. Car companies simply sell to a demand and market whatever way to sell product.
Its all well and good for people to start thinking along these related lines, but more coordinated thought (and not market controlled) needs to be done I think.
I can think of a hell of a lot of terrestrial applications for the same thing. I guess it is a matter of cost. Here is a prime example of perhaps technology coming out of the space program with direct implications. Even at the low output, applications for remote areas would still be relevant.
OK so I am a pretty big fan of science fiction... some of the above I know of and others not so much. A little Googling later, and I am in the know:
Gamer: The plot makes me smile, but I have no doubt that this will be a horrible movie. Basically in the future humans have the power to control other human MMO style. I am sure this is supposed to be a thriller, but if realistic I can see it being a comedy! May watch it just for a laugh, then again maybe not.
The Fourth Kind: X-files in Alaska. Including Fed cover up etc... Mysterious happenings... quick Scoob to the Mystery Machine! Considering the name makes me thing of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, I can only surmise that their are Aliens involved. Sounds like a pretty tired plot to me. Might be ok if done really well. Likely not, I will probably skip this one also.
The Time Traveler's Wife: Exactly what it sounds like. Some guy has a "gene" that makes him travel through time. Movie is about how this effects his marriage. Snore. I am sure there is lots of fun period shots in this also. No thanks. Again if done really really well it could be a good movie, but likely it is not.
Pandorum: See Event Horizon. Science Fiction Thriller to a T. I will be seeing this movie and I am excited about it. I don't really think it is going to win any awards as it probably isn't that great. However I have seen enough of the trailer to get me excited about it. It looks to be pretty hard core science fiction so a must watch for me. Hopefully it will surprise me with quality.
Splice: Horror. Only science fiction really because it involves "dna". Save yourself the trouble and pick up a copy of Frankenstein. Not really excited about this one.
The Surrogates: Never hear of this one before today either. Actually sounds pretty interesting, like science fiction of old. In the future people don't go outside, they interact with robot "surrogates". Someone is killing them. The main guy an FBI agent played by Bruce Willis has to leave his house for the first time to investigate. I like the plot idea, it is original, and there is too few of that. Also Bruce Willis in science fiction has a good track record as far as I am concerned, and I think will fit the part well. I think I will defiantly check this out when available.
2012: Mayan end of world prediction comes true. Take every disaster film up to now and remix. I will likely skip this one as well.
9: Animated film. Post apocalyptic, no humans around, machines rule, adventure to find the truth. Animation looks like good quality, perhaps pixar or something. I say it looks interesting and could be a really good film. Goes without saying, animated films aren't for everyone.
AstroBoy: Old Cartoon comes to film. I will probably check this out for nostalgia at least. I have no expectations, and It will likely be pretty much a kid film, but might still be fun. I will likely check it out.
The Box: Horror. Not sure why in list. Box must be Alien or something. Couple gets box in mail. Couple gets wealthy as result. People start dying. Oh Noes! Next.
The Sky Crawlers: I actually saw this one. This is a anime film in Japanese, maybe they will dub it for release. Anyway War is a sport, and fought by kids that do not age (they may be manufactured), corporations wage the war. It is a sort of melancholy story about these kids that are constantly at war, and about their memories that fade over time. It is kind of sad and probably a commentary on war today and in the future. It wasn't a bad movie, they use a mix of CGI and traditional animation techniques blended together. CGI is basically for the fighter plane fights, oh yea as per Japanese fixation with planes, they are all pilots. The funny story about this movie is a freaked me out for a second. I had been watching a lot of animation lately, and when I was watching this I starting understanding Japanese! Or at least I thought I did. It took me a couple of seconds to realize that for whatever reason as soon as all the pilots jump into the pl

Correction: If you have a pirated copy of XP (which I would say a large percentage of the world does have), then you DEFIANTLY are part of at LEAST one botnet.
Yes yes I know windows = bad, but seriously without the constant security patches, it is OMG horrible.
I ran it for a while (pirated xp) until I couldn't handle it any more. I had a system down, that I would just back stuff up, and when the system became too saturated with various things (botnets, virus, worms, adware, spyware, trojans, etc...) I would just format the bloody thing and re-install, rinse and repeat. However it got so bad that within minutes of connecting to the internet you would get owned. That's when I jumped on the Linux train. I also have Vista on another box, and it got owned once by a nasty adware bug, but that really wasn't Vista's fault, but mine for downloading a sketchy program, so no one to blame but me.
I wonder of those big botnets, how many of them are made up of copies of pirated XP, particularly in developing and Asian markets? I would guess a lot.
Not all that surprising considering all the bad press they have been getting about being weasels about the whole no LAN option. With Battle.Net the only option now, they better make DAMN sure it works as it should. Also despite all the bad press, I am sure they probably expect to break every record ever set for selling of a video game, ever. Which means on week one when everyone is logging into Battle.Net they better make DAMN sure they actually have the capacity to handle all the requests for service.
I am 100% that this is what this is about, nothing to do with the actual game at all. Sure they may continue to balance in the meantime, but likely that is it.
1) First and most importantly the device's software should (must) be open source. The breathalyzer has been shown in recent years (at least in the USA) to be wildly inaccurate, make false assumptions, and contain horrible rounding errors (when multiplied by ppm is a lot). It took years and court orders to finally look at the software which was protected under the auspices of "Trade Secrets". When opened up it was found that the code looked to be written by retarded drunken squirrels.
2) One fear as already mentioned is it may only detect remains of drugs and not active drugs. Like the differance if I smoked a join before hoping into the car, or if I smoked some 4 weeks ago in my house. Along with this is detecting drugs that are derivatives of each other. So they might say detect Heroin when really I had some medically percribed morphine at some point.
3) One easy test is the scientifically proven field test as demonstrated in "Super Troopers". If any of the occupants are "like totally freaked out dude" then they are high and can be arrested.
In related news I hear Pizzahut is changing there name to just "The Hut"... seriously...
Also as already mentioned, they changed names up here in Canada to "The Source" some time ago... however they may be bankrupt now, so perhaps that didn't work out so well. (Though I am pretty sure it had little to do with the name, and a lot to do with the service/product)
When I read the title I interpreted "Do It" as is Bowchicawowow...
Then immediately the joke came to mind.... I know when I multitask it just takes longer to get things done, which really women might appreciate...
But really I guess I just proved the real theory that I am not good at multitasking. Dammit!

What a depressing article, makes me feel old, pass me the Cheetos.
It was pussy, booze, video games and in fairly distant fourth was school. Everything else fell into the irrelevant or no time for that crap pile.

Three points to make.
