IMHO, writing software, in Java or any language, is a creative effort. There are many fields of creative endeavor - artists, musicians, developers, etc. Pair programming is just plain stupid and nuts IMO. Do you ever hear of pair painting (canvas not houses), pair sculpture, pair composing, pair solo singing - no you don't. I had hoped this pair programming nonsense had faded into oblivion - I guess not, but let's try to push it over the cliff and into the abyss of poor ideas.
As a former Oregonian (couldn't stand the rain!), I'm glad to see the University taking this stance. Oregon may have issues, but their universities generally have their heads screwed on straight.
I'll consider supporting breast cancer efforts when prostate cancer efforts get as much publicity/money/etc. as breast cancer does. It's time to end the inequality among cancer research efforts.
He likes to drag them around and make noise with them. He's a big tabby tom - about 17 pounds and a yard long. Now if I could teach him to teach the paper...
Yes, I'm one of those high-paid COBOL mainframe applications programmers. I work at a large multi-national financial services firm in the Midwest. The combination of mainframe skills needed, financial industry experience, IT experience, and programming experience for the work I do provides me with a comfortable income. They are constantly searching for the "right" people to staff projects here. Many apply; few make the cut. They even tried outsourcing - realized it was a failure - brought everything back in-house. From what I understand, they don't even teach COBOL in college anymore.
Yes there's Java, WebSphere, client/server stuff, etc. but that's all on the "front-end" or "client-facing" applications. The "back-end" or engine of what the company needs to run 24/7 is big mainframe iron. We've got the largest models IBM provides and want even more powerful ones. Isn't the sexiest thing but it gets the job done - every day.
Speaking as one who at one point in my career was a professional (meaning "on salary) FORTRAN programmer, I take some exception with that remark. FORTRAN has it's uses as does C.
What would an Internet domain for Mars be? www.foo.com.mars? Or extrapolating.... www.one.huge.com.uranus? Then there's www.iwork.ie.io. I could go on but you get the idea. The Internet is too earth-centric.

I did a quick browse of their website and found nothing mainframe related. Perhaps they haven't realized yet that there's still a considerable portion of the Fortune 500 running IT on mainframe systems..NET doesn't quite run on an IBM z/OS system.
I can't remember now whether it was Quantum Link or The Source (anyone remember them?) that had a great game that I spent way too many hours playing. I think it was called "Dor Sageth". It was a huge inter-galactic spaceship and the goal was to get to the command room and take control. Love that game! Wonder if anyone else recalls it.
I used to have a dog but it got old, sick,e tc. Now I have two cats - a tabby tomcat and a bengal female. But those penguins interest me. But I'm concerned about what to feed them if I got one - never seen any penguin chow at the local pet store. Then again where do you get the penguins? How long do they live? Can they be litterbox trained too?
dance monkeyboy dance!
Microsoft complaining about Apple users?! Oh, and of course, they and their users are lily-white and never steal a single thing. Snort!
I have to remember not to drink a new cup of coffee when reading/. lest I blow it out my nose reading comments like this from the Ballmer B-boy Monkeyboy.
I wrote the Foserbaum module as well as the Bixler interface. Glenn just plagiarized it.
An Alien face-hugger seems to do fairly well in both induced gravity and near-/zero-gravity environments.

Cheers for the Fighting Ducks - Go Ducks!
New word? A combination of exasperate and evaporates? Meaning to... exasperate until nothing left?
probably not, but then again I'd prefer to be Master Chief.

or would the "anti-nanos" be better?
now I just need a Netflix for pr0n and I'm set.
If the person can get their TPS reports done and filed on time, they will be a success in their position.

Gives new meaning to the phrase "tender bits". Tattoo where? Hmmmm.
