So, I have a Garmin Vivoactive gps watch which I use for tracking running and biking. Aside from sports functions, it's waterproof, I get about 2 weeks from a charge and fits my wrist perfectly. More importantly, it does the only two things I need from a smartwatch:
1) It allows me to put my phone on silent and vibrates and displays any notifications coming in. A silent phone is a golden phone, and I don't have to pull out my phone in a meeting if a text or call comes in. A quick glance at the wrist is all I need.
2) It lets me select which notifications I receive on my watch as I don't need notifications every time @whomever posts a picture on twitter or I get an email in my gmail box. I get only those notifications I want in a timely manner.
Other than that, I can't think of anything for which I'd use a smart watch (though my desires do not necessarily line up with someone else's), so I certainly have no need to buy a new one each and every year.
You know Loco Roco is what got me to buy my PSP. Great game. The rest of the PSP library... well, I bought Patapon new, but everything else has to hit the $9.99 mark before it's worth the buy... Just, as you say, no compelling titles.
Always make sure you preview a sample before buying though. The font choices for some of these are just inexplicably bad. Check out Zoe's Tale vs An Autumn War. The AWA font is terrible...
I'm glad to see this...I was beginning to think I was the only one. I *loved* the original Hellboy, but very nearly walked out on this one. Bad pacing and everything, and I do mean everything, felt telegraphed. Maybe if they had tried developing a character or something...oh wait...Abe drank a beer...
Yes, yes, yes...the monkey trials were amusing for all...well...except the dead guy, I suppose.
Regardless, the parent comment said something on the order of:
"People, being people, fail to distinguish that proof of evolution can not be equated to proof of the non-existence of God"
I said that in the context of a political campaign, evolution is still a difficult issue because of the fact that people don't get the above and presented an amusing (to me only apparently) discussion along those lines.
You come in and say that, no in fact, it's not science it those Godmongers...they've got their god in my evolution to which the Godmongers might complain that you've got your science in their creationism.
It would seem that it is an emotional and polarizing argument, wouldn't it?
Ah the problem with posting a sidebar. The evolution comments I made were a sidebar to a discussion of political candidates and the hot topic of evolution. The point was not that science has said that you must not believe in God, but that people (journalists/lobbyists/whoever you feel like pointing a finger at) use the one to attack the other. It's a no-win argument as it is easily abused for the public consumption
Well, said. I wrote something about this regarding evolution and the political campaign describing just this problem. While yes there is a distinction, the fact that most people won't see it, is a problem:
Evolution:
You know the deal...reproduction leads to mutations. Some mutations benefit survival, and these traits are passed on to further generations. This leads sea monkey to salamanders and apes to man. Check the bones at your local natural history museum for the appropriate citations.
In any case, in days gone by, the evolution question was fairly simple:
I do/do not (circle one) believe in evolution.
For the most part people were okay with this. If you didn't believe in evolution, you tended to get giggled at, but nobody stole your lunch money, so all was well, and time passed.
Eventually, though, that wasn't good enough for some folks. Believing in evolution was no longer good enough. The conversation moved to something along these lines:
"So...do you believe in evolution?"
"Yes, of course I do. Ooh...wanna go to the museum? The fossils are wicked cool!"
"So, you admit that God was not involved in the creation of man, then."
"Say what now?!?!"
That's when life got ugly. All Christians want to say is that clearly the evolutionary process is going on all around us, but God is the architect behind it all. Not good enough, apparently. Evolution is strictly random. As such God cannot be involved. Unfortunately, saying God did not create man is tantamount to saying "There is no God." That's quite a pickle, don't you think? What's a politician to say?
There is an inherent contradiction in believing evolution and believing in God, but I believe that is the point. I think they used to call these essential mysteries. I believe in evolution. I believe in God...big fan of his work. I don't believe that invisible angels were at work bumping the necessary single cell organisms together to eventually create man. I do believe if I mix the proper ingredients and stick them in the oven, I'll eventually get a cake.
Amen! I hate playing FPS on a console. Give me a mouse and keyboard any day!...not to mention the fact that family gets annoyed if I tie up the TV too long playing a console...
Yikes...well, I bought my TVs on sale and the same with the player, so I didn't spend too much. I don't have a star trek-themed amphitheater, I have a living room and a basement decked out with my home-gym, electronics workbench, bike workshop and hdtv/player/recliners. I don't buy what I won't use (well...with the exception of a few RTS games I bought before finally deciding, I hate RTS games). So, I get quite a bit of use from them. Uverse has enough HD channels that when I do watch TV, I'm almost always on an HD channel, and even though UVerse HD doesn't look as good as others, it is noticeably better than SD.
The Toshibas are excellent upconverting players...I need another dvd for the basement HDTV, so I plan on picking up another rather than shelling out for a standard upconverting player.
I sent my friend in Indy a 360, so we could meet up online for some friendly frags, and I haven't been able to get on live at all! This is really starting to get old for a paid service...
Indeed, I keep a few D-Link DWL-530s around just for when folks come a-callin' with linux wireless issues. The card is crap in windows (crashes a lot), but works flawlessly under linux on any laptop I've ever slid it into.
I have a roll of these that I brought across the border and have been handing out to friends and family. Who knew that I was in danger of a patriot act arrest due to some coins with a friggin' inkjet poppy on it!
Not as long as I am only able to get it via Cingular. When it is ubiquitous with all the major carriers...possibly, but that depends on how much storage can be stuffed in at a reasonable price. The flash crowd will by happy with 6 or 8gb, but many folk want the larger music libraries at hand.
But seriously, fundie or no, the psalms are David's prayer's to God (or several folks prayers depending upon your tradition). They are defined by the fact that they are the human response to God and therein lies their beauty...all of which is neither here nor there, I 'spose.

Good to see them staying in the game, but my tendency is to favor the Nexus devices, and avoid any of the bookseller ecosystems.

It let's change font size, but yeah... doesn't seem to be any option for switching fonts. I was surprised when I saw that as well.

No pinch gestures in the kindle app, I'm afraid...

Time to fire up Mosaic and OmniWeb on the Next Cube at home!
Got you beat! 1990 in West lafayette...and yes...it hurt!

Best. Movie. Ever.
Jordan...Mmmmm....sweet, sweet Jordan...
The radio on the drive back to Michigan from chicago is HELL unless you like Delilah (does anyone actually like Delilah)?!?!? Thank god for satellite!

Will the iPhone kill the iPod in America?

Didn't David write the psalms? You know...singing and praying to God? You'd think he could at least get that right...
Forget the beam...let's just take a few minutes to think about Jordan...ummmm...Jordan...
