The PSP would be a fine console, if it did not have a shoddy control scheme. I mean really shoddy. It is literally physically painful to play certain PSP games for any period of time, which is a terrible pity as many would make fine PS2 titles. Instead they have been relegated to a device that sacrifices ergonomics for a few more millimeters of screen size.
I have never really understood portable gaming consoles. Playing a video game is not a passive experience like listening to music. It's something that is quite deeply engrossing and which does not fit into bus journeys, lunch breaks, or just before bedtime sessions. An average video game session probably clocks in at about two to three hours. A bit like reading a book.
And good video games, like good books, simply cannot be read in bits an pieces. You cannot finish War and Peace by five years of reading it over your ham sandwiches during lunch. If you do that you're missing the point. The same holds for Chains of Olympus or the like. Something like "Brain Training", sure, but that is not a title worth buying a console over.
it depends on the game. You should try a DS LITE. There are many "pick up and play" games for that system. I know it might seem underpowered from the specs but I have one and I find it infinitely more fun than the PSP. There are 20 or 30 times more fun games for the DS. It's because the DS is designed as a handheld not a mini console.
Nintendo is not neglecting its roots.

Zelda Twilight princess and Super Mario Galaxy not to mention the upcoming Metroid shooter kind of make this guys argument seem silly. Nintendo is pursuing the casual gamer but they are not about to "neglect their roots."
"high street" "kit" who the hell talks like that? oh yea those guys from the UK!!! I am thinking
in the US where people have a bit more disposable income the Mac demographic is much different. What
this article is really saying (in light of the fact the new intel macs are competitively priced compared
to comparable Gateways Dells HP's) is that young people in England can only afford lower end systems (on
average).
It's true that playing games with OSX is pretty much a joke. The OS might detect a new Camera from Japan but it won't even recognize my USB gamepad unless I install a shareware program!!! It's like Apple doesnt want or care about games on OSX or maybe they just gave up? However with Bootcamp and WinXP on a partition I can play Prey, F.E.A.R., and all my other PC games and they work just fine on my 20" Imac. Sure, my graphics card built into this Imac is gonna be a bottleneck for games eventually, but unlike Windows machines which fall behind and become doorstops in 3-4 years (if you are really into games ona pc a motherboard/cpu/gpu is necessary every 2 years anyway ) I have an old G3 Imac 500mhz 512mb ram from 2001 too and while it can only play old games it still runs the latest Mac OS (10.4.7)!! Try running Vista on a 5 year old PC.
I may fall behind in a year or so game wise on my Imac but my Imac will have a longer useful life overall. If all you are buying a computer for is games then by all means get a pc or better yet get a Mac and a XBOX360 or maybe a Wii/PS3..
it's been almost 14 years and the Amiga hasnt moved forward does anyone really believe this is gonna happen?
Funniest line is when he promises a new version of the Amiga OS that is "much better than OSX from Apple"
Maybe you are thinking of the Atari 400
and 800, but the Atari 2600 had only 2 ports. Some games did allow four players
(Warlords is the only one I can think of)
but they used paddle controllers that
connected two per port which allowed 4 simulat. players.
there are two sides to every view. The verdict is still
out on WII but in my opinion it is up there with some of
the worst names for a game console, which as I pointed out
may be a good sign. Look at the Nintendo DS, it's selling
like crazy despite the name and the original DS being
clunky looking, it's all about the games. If there are
some unique and FUN games for the WII people will buy it
regardless of the name.
Nintendo might have a hit on their hands, think about it!
All the cool named systems underperformed: Lynx, Jaguar,
TurboGrafx, Dreamcast, Saturn!!! What were/are the popular systems: 2600, NES, SNES, Playstation, Playstation 2, Nintendo DS? All very lame.
I hate to break it to you people but it's
not about the name, the hype or the specs...
It's about the games. If you have the best games they
will come.

No you fool! (just kidding) my point is the
PS2 (for example) is the market leader this
generation (by a long shot) if the XBOX 360
could play XBOX and PS2 games, alot of PS2
gamers might switch to the XBOX 360.
A similar technique was used way back in the
days of the Colecovision (you could buy a
module that allowed the use of Atari 2600
games). This convinced alot of people to
upgrade to the Colecovision rather then
the Atari 5200.
Since this is all done in software, couldnt similar
emulation be developed to run XBOX games on the PS3
or Nintendo's Revolution? For that matter, why not
develope software to run PS2 games on the XBOX 360
too?
where were you in 1985? The Amiga was introduced
as the next great thing by Andy Warhol in NYC!!!
It was called ahead of it's time, the first true
multimedia computer and so on..
The only difference was the Amiga actually was up
to the task of fufilling the promises made by
Commodore. Too bad it ended up as a footnote in
computing history...
this applies to browser's like Opera as well. There
are some sites that refuse to serve a page to Opera
but if you change the Browser ID to IE it will
display fine. Many people will leave this setiing
on, so they dont have to keep switching (afterall
there aren't any Opera Specific sites.
Good point
very funny.. btw best mac game ever:
Maelstream!!! best asteroids port ever done, and
there is a really cool centipede game for the mac
too... uh ok, I guess these are pretty retro, but
the mac does have some cool classic shareware.
kevin
If it were possible to have both Longhorn or
whatever the next gen MS software and Mac OS X
on the same machine and cohabitate... yes!!!
without a doubt I would install OSX.
You know what? OSX would scoop up alot of
Windows users this way.. many people would find
themselves using OSX more and Windows less.
kevin
I've used many many platforms over the years, but
I never owned a Macintosh until a few months ago.
I still won't give up my x86 system, but I do like
the mac and find myself using it more and more
for "simple" tasks like writing a letter for example. It's hard to put your finger on, but
the Mac OS is comfortable and friendly in a way
Windows XP is not. That said, like the writer
I would never give up my REAL computer.
kevin
Win ME had to be the most crash prone OS of the
bunch! I find XP to be slighty more stable then
win98/2000. Of course alot this depends on what
someone is running and how often they reinstall
windows. I had pretty good luck with win98 if
I reinstalled the OS every month or so... thank
God that is not necessary with XP.
kevin
"where there is demand, there will be a supply"
this applies to everything. Already Spiderman 2
is starting to make the rounds on the net.
Regardless of what they do (ie. nightvision
goggles, rewards for turning in bootleggers etc)
someone will always find a way to make a decent
copy and you will be able to hit either the bad
part of town, the usenet, IRC, p2p networks etc..
to find bootlegged movies. There is no way to
stop it. However, make a good enough movie and
people will still come to see it in it's proper
forum "the theatre" just as a fan of your cd
will still buy it even though he may have sampled
it first in mp3 form. If someone simply can't
afford to goto the movies or just is too frugal
and gets the bootleg instead, nobody lost a sale
since that person would not have spent any money
to begin with.

but this is pretty good! wow, someone mentioned
the lyrics, yea they are hard to understand, but
aside from that I can say this is pretty good
it reminds me of the sugarcubes or something like
that...
They should use an Atari 800 too, though, the
pokey chip on that machine can do some unique
sound effects that the SID could never emulate.
kvn
uhhh he did just save the ENTIRE planet earth!? Saving the human race from extinction might just get him a quick promotion.
Don't.

You need to be a Spaceflight now premium subscriber to get the extra video content.
Impressive, but nowhere does it say how fast this thing is. What excactly do you end up with? A 486 speed pc at best?

actually according to various sources. The movie was pretty much re-written after he died. unfortun his last draft was nowhere near complete.
