Sorry, but I can't buy the slippery slope argument. Some issues are black and white. Just because there are OTHER sites that aren't as easy to prove are doing something illegal doesn't mean you give a pass the the ones who are *blatantly* attempting to rob someone blind. If I see someone getting pickpocketed and I can aid them in getting their money back,... What am I going to do? Stand idly by and not say anything?
We should start a pool. When do they get their first cease and desist? When do they get shut down for good? When do they go to court... The potential for profit is staggering!
I'd be more inclined to believe that they made a tactical mistake if they did leak it. It undermined their credibility (Like any help was needed) when it became the #1 opener.
Search this, search that... God forbid we get some actual discussion on a topic. If all you Google-worshipping goons had your way, we'd all have it as our browser home page and it would be locked. Seriously, that was an insightful topic and interesting answer...
Is it really legit. or legal to waive your legal rights via a TOS agreement? Especially one that you didn't sign?
On the other hand, do we *really* have a right to privacy when it's the cable co. that is making the records, and therefore, their property to do with as they please?
If I have a place of business, and I set up a CC camera system recording all entries/motion in my shop to a hard drive, (and have a sign up saying all activity is being monitored by cameras) can it possibly be illegal to do with that footage as I please?
I'm not taking sides, as I can see both arguments, but I just wonder what the legality really and truly is, and then what would actually hold up in court...
I didn't fall for it in my email this morning, I'm not falling for it here! Some of the products are really funny though. Especially the green laser airline tracker.
Or how about COPS, Seattle, where Bill Gates is trying to rent Weird Science and Revenge of the Nerds? Or Bill Gates selling his patented "Geek-boy haircutting system?" Classic stuff!
Damn I miss that show. I think I'll waste an hour and look for torrents of it.
Maybe a wall safe would be a good thing to put in now, rather than cutting into the dry wall later.
Poster mentioned PTZ cameras, but not where they'd be... Don't forget to run the cable high enough.
Parent mentioned fingerprint scanners... What method of connectivity would those need? I'd hate to try to run USB through the house... hubs, everywhere!
And last but not least, the "Broadcast Flag" is going to be a total and complete failure.. just like the "V-Chip."
I WISH you were right, but who was pushing the V-chip? Parents groups? The FCC? The broadcast flag is going to be (is being?) pushed by some pretty freakin' big companies. Time Warner? MGM? Disney? to "protect" their revenue streams.
About time someone else figured this out. The whole Devil you know, vs. the one you don't know concept seems to be lost on quite a few... OK, so he banned a few "bad" words and a little nudity. What's the next guy going to do to fair use rights? Is he going to hop in bed with the networks? I may like Bush (ok, yeah, hit my karma) but I am scared to death of who he will put in charge...
I'm not sure how you'd find it now, but I remember seeing some footage of the launch pad the morning of the Challenger (yes, 1986) disaster. Ice ALL OVER the place. It was like a winter wonderland down there, with guys in bunny suits or whatever spraying hot water all over the place and de-icing it all.
Did they already repay us for the huge amount of money we spent to pay for their parts of the station? IIRC, they claimed a few times they couldn't finish their pieces because of lack of funding, so we footed the bill...
You want to hear something negative? Well... OK, if you insist... I had to complete three offers before I got my iPod because the first two were using yoggin.com's email service, which is gone gone gone. That meant no reference emails to prove I'd completed the offer. (I hadn't gotten credit automatically because I was using a Mac/Safari, I guess.)
But sorry, I did get my ipod thanks to a few domains that I have and a fair amount of traffic. Took me about two months, I think.
Anyone want to buy freeipods.info?:) (seriously. I registered it, but never did a thing with it.)
My room is already illuminated by LED's from all my computer gear! Anyway, I'd consider it a geek badge of honor to be the first person blinded by LED flood lamps.
Right. Sure. Of course. $12.95 a month for TiVo service and $50 or so for cable. It's free. I'm sure this means they'll reduce the prices on the monthly service (something they should do anyway for those of us not using the dialup ISP service to get listings) and on the lifetime passes. RIGHT?
troll

The most terrifying film to hit the screen...
(Everybody, now!)

No.
They did, but they never showed his body AFTER the explosion. Surely he's still alive!
Other #6: Leech someone else's power when you do this. Microwaves are hungry.

I hereby dub those to be "asterisk-wing" fighters.
Hey, let's get in our *-wing fighters and make them rue the day they messed with us!

HA. That one might even be too obscure for the /. crowd.

When did they start allowing you to transfer a lifetime subscription to a new box??
Right. Sure. Of course. $12.95 a month for TiVo service and $50 or so for cable. It's free. I'm sure this means they'll reduce the prices on the monthly service (something they should do anyway for those of us not using the dialup ISP service to get listings) and on the lifetime passes. RIGHT?
All three are now depleted. They are running off several naquadah generators they brought with them.
I tried one at a mall about six months ago. The thing was junk. Super Mario Brothers was playing about 10% too fast.... Anyone else seen that?
