Mr. Raskin died of pancreatic cancer. Isn't that what Steve Jobs was treated for as well but just not the fatal form??? Interesting coincidence huh....What is going on at One Cupertino Drive.
A toast to a very productive life!
This would be MORE expensive for the government to do. They would have to pay a "fair" value upfront for the 20 years use of the patent...The thing the States should do is negociate lower prices. The only reason prices are high is because people like me and the government's of the world pay those prices. Plain and simple.
By the way the State isn't always a good user of the people's money. I talked with a group of guys at a Stanford alum party who are investing in CA stem cell projects. They laughed that they could "rip off " the tax payer since the State government is putting a few billion into the pot. There is no incentive to use the money wisely. One guy even had the balls to say there was nothing like the government paying for his Aston Martin and home...They all laughed.
That is that problem. I am making more money now that I switched my consulting company to Linux. The savings is going into my pocket. Not Gate's and Microsoft's. This is capitalism at it's best, pay nothing for something that creates a hell of a lot of wealth. Sales-cost = profit. Sales - Linux's cost (basically service contracts on the cheap) so lets just say for the sake of argument, $0.00. You have made more money. Really simple. I can't understand why corporate America/Europe can't see this. Every shareholder would be richer instantly. The ulimate capitalistic move.
I think the Q88 that is rumored is a media server that will dock the iPod, connect to your Mac and distribute video around the home using an upgraded Airport wireless system. Perhaps having some sort of TiVo like abilities and a built in DVD player!
A headless Mac to me makes no sense given that the consumer models are going to the G5.
Apple's AAC files from iTunes won't play because this device (everyone except iPod) will not be able to decode Apple's FairPlay DRM. This is what Apple uses to protect the iTunes/iPod/Music store system. Without FairPlay they would be eaten up my others.
I just updated and it seems the redraws and scrolls are a little faster on my 1.5GHZ PowerBook. I was wondering, after chatting with a Windows developer at a local coffee shop in Seattle, was he correct in saying that Windows Longhorn will basically have a copy of the Quartz rendering engine and therefore will have all of the "eye candy" and more that Mac OS X has? He said it does, things like transparency, expose, a dashboard like side bar system and the transitions. What will Apple do next then do you think?
A little off subject I know but I'd be interested in opinions.
this is like the gas tax in California. Since 1998 a 16% increase in miles traveled yet a 8% DECREASE in the taxes coming in from the tax applied to a gallon of gas. Why? because of better fuel economy, hybrids, and electric cars that all use the roads but pay less to do so. So the good in using less gas is going to cause the infastructure in CA to crumble for lack of funding....Always something on the otherside of the same coin.
Actually it is the Democrats that are supported by the hollywood crowd. Just look at the political contributions by the studios, producers, actors, and the TV execs. Almost all to the Dems. Sure they work with Republicans to get their way because they hold all the power. These are the people with the most to loose. I know people who produce indepentent film and they've been told they can't get insurance for a project because of the potential of theft. This is not a partisan issue.
count me in!!! I want the lowest cost, most effective government that does only the things that matter and gets out of social services and morals, I want it now!!! This is the libertarian party politics!!! It has been around forever.
it is a race to the bottom on cost. Yes their are benefits like Walmart to the pocketbook but long term are they good?? I use the most expensive platform on earth and the most closed (ie hardware, software), Apple's Macintosh and find it to be far more useful than Linux. The main problem I have is Linux doesn't innovate, it copies what Apple and MS do so it is always in catch up mode. One can't make money doing that unless you rape people on the service contracts....
The license costs on H.264 are the most expensive on the planet (MPEG LA controls it with a hell of a lot of patented stuff from various companies). This is why it isn't being adopted rapidly. Even MS undercut it with cheaper licensing on Windows Media. This will kill it, a very nice technology. I am all for open source codecs. Perhaps BBC is on to something.
Yes, if a corporation or government wasn't an 'entity' you could sue the receptionist, executive, joe shmoe, or any of the employees individually and bankrupt them if thay made a mistake. It protects the employees and the people it does business with.
To all those that think government has an answer, take one look at the world. All problems are caused by governments....Take care of you, your family, community, make a hell of a lot of money to pay a lot of taxes to help your fellow citizens. This is your responsibility. Enjoy life because it goes by fast!!
This will be their solution. If you are not compatible on all devices, you (Apple's iTunes users) pay a premium. This will cause me to look for alternatives, especially some of the reports of albums costing more on iTunes than the CD in the store after the price increases.
Apple's PowerMac G5 sales have been horrible and the iMac's been this way for a while.
Why with the massive leap in technology are the G5 sales still falling? Well, because with Linux in the game people want multiple hardware and software venders for cost and flexibility reasons but Apple is the a completely closed system!
The world is moving the other way and the professional sales prove this!
This is the evolution. Linux will create corporate millionaires and billionaires, and like Microsoft, someday will be the mega dominate OS. The next thing will be driven by the hackers and 'punks' all over again.
I selected Linux because the money my consulting company saves in not paying MS licenses, (ie more profit for us and not Microsoft) helps go toward my second home purchase. This software is wonderful.
I have an 2001 S Class and it has been a electronic nightmare but I paid a lot for the brand. I could get the same function for less surely, and Apple like a premium car brand is the Porsche of computers. You will pay through the nose for the same thing that is cheaper just because it is Apple. Anyone who wants something different should go for a $699 Dell or white box Linux machine.
Apple users are more educated and far richer than the average computer user by Apple's own data mining about its users as well as a number of studies.
So people if you want the brand pay up!! You are paying a significant premium just for that little Apple logo on the unit.
First off. Get broadband. It's cheap. I can't imagine downloading even the songs off the store with dial up. Second, Apple unlike Microsoft wants a clean install. Not patching, ummm, excuse me, updating the application. So yes it is both Mac and Windows.

and the world goes to WMA or something like that. Why the hell ruin Apple's one chance at creating a new industry...Music and film downloads!!!
Here in Seattle he is the Democrat du jour. Perhaps he is convincing all of his friends in the NPR world to buy his system.... Just a thought.
