It seems like every time I pick a profession, some foreign company is ready to take it over. At this rate, how much you wanna bet NASA outsources 60% of the Astronaut jobs to Ukraine?

First, it was prostitution. Then EI pays me to upgrade to an IT Professional. What happens? The whole motherload of the IT profession gets shipped over to mama India. Why did I ever bother to immigrate here anyways? Could've just crossed the border and stayed in Bombay.

Then, EI pays me to upgrade to an Astronaut. What happens? UKRAINE. That's what happens! Gesus-buggering-Kriste man, think I'd have some job security an Astronaut, eh? But, no sirreee! So like, what are they gonna pay me to upgrade to next? At 25, they should just cut me a pension and let me retire.

Just as a side note, we could really use some other inflatable products up here, eh. How about a life-size replica of Asia Carrera?

I was just pointing out a few of their many hypocrisies in addition to this alarming act of censorship. Basically, these people have no scruples about oppressing other people who stand in their way.

Both seem to be not only in bed with the US right wing conservatives, but are in fact stooges of that system which denies poor people the freedom to change their circumstances by migrating across borders and asylum to political refugees.

Really? Is that really such a common occurrence? or the odd woman fighting back as a result of systematic male dominance and oppression? Opposing your characterization, most intimidation and shoolyard violence faced by males is at the hands of other males. This is essential if the patriarchy is to exist, by teaching competition, dominance, and hierarchy.

I'm all for getting back at male bashers and hitting them where they're sensitive. Making fun of stupid arrogant women who think they're perfect and who put down men, is 100% good sport.
So like, ummm.... bash the bashers? shoot the shooters? oppress the oppressors? So I guess that justifies peace-keeping missions with lot's of guns? Interesting. I'm not really sure how you can use tools of oppression to create peace. Isn't the whole idea of domination to villify and better oppress another? and isn't this where patriarchy comes from?

Smart geek grrls are hard to cultivate, harder to get to come out of hiding, and nearly impossible to date&mate. (Yes, I said date&mate. All things equal, I'd rather have geek grrls breeding like rabbits than the idiots we see having kids now
Uh-huh, and who get's to decide which of the "grrls" are the smart ones and worthy of breeding? I don't suppose it would be another male, now would it? Another aspect of patriarchy-like domination based structures is to stratify by apportioning privilege to the few most cooperative in keeping the hierarchy in place.

If you actually believe that the geek "grrls" are smarter, have you bothered to read any of their comments?

Hmmmm... I feel kind of torn about this:

Yes, this is sexist because it enforces gender stereotypes and beliefs that over the long term are being used for gender oppression. It also ties in with sexuality, which is apparent when you look at some of the other comments. In one comment a guy complains about looking like a faggot when caught viewing slashdot on his notebook. In another comment, a woman proudly claims to be one of the 2%, but has a disclaimer about not being a lesbian.

On the other hand, I feel very uncomfortable in geek/nerd environments because of the misogyny, classism, racism, and homophobic... so when I first saw this play on gender it was from the point of view "Hey! maybe this will interrupt the gender norm at slashdot!!" or perhaps raise a little awareness, but I hear you, and agree with you that this April Fool's joke is sexist and I wish we would all take the time to learn how not to hurt non-male genders.

There is probably more variance in all of these for open source than there is for closed source. Simply looking at aspects of success or failure of OO and relating it to source disclosure models is kind of like looking at a painting so closely at a single point as to miss the whole picture, and then trying to figure out the whole picture.

OO definately has lot's of problems. I've tried to have it unsuccessfully used at a few non-profits with very disappointing results.

All that really means is that we have to wait around till someone out there learns from mistakes and starts another project. It will certainly happen sooner or later, just that I guess people like me (lusers) have got to patiently wait around till that gem appears. Hey, I can count the numbered days of ClosedOffice, right?
