Never built one of their tube kits, but did build some transistor amps from them, eico, dynaco and Hafler. Good memories and one of the things that got me into electrical engineering. Now I tend to build stuff from scratch using SBC's. I do wonder on the UPS though. I could see problems with EMC, voltage transients etc. When power fails, and is restored, bad things can happen. I recall one time after an ice storm the power yoyo'ed for about 10 minutes. UPS survived it. Another issue I hope he tackles (my APC does not) is catching a hot battery. I've seen on 2 occasions over numerous years/UPS's where the batteries will get very hot to the point of deformation. When I catch it, I pull the battery clips if I can, pull the plugs and take the UPS outside in case the batteries catch fire.
I'd go one further, I'd like to see the authorizing body (city council, state legislators) held personally liable for costs over 15%. But that is not going to happen either.
The city did an expansion of "Mopac" and the cost/time overrun was crazy. Now the sound walls have a problem. A report just came in that the drainage tunnel the city put in downtown which was 161 million in the end quoted as 26 mil is structurally deficient. The did not put rebar in so buildings over it may collapse. And who can forget the boston big dig. Government has somehow become incompetent to build things on time/budget. Gov needs to start putting teeth into contracts. If you miss on quality/time/price we will recover costs and if that means that it takes out a large construction firm, so be it. Bid accurately. Today gov just throws them more money and when they bid contractors know it. The city is looking at burying 35 thru town and they actually believe it will cost only 2 bil. My guess is 50 to 100 bil. But hey whats a few bil between friends.
for other drivers/pedestrians, but the info should use HUD. Doesn't Benz offer this as an option? I know GM, Lexus and Honda offer it. I imagine the patents GM filed when they first offered it have expired by now. Its been in their cars for 20 years or more. The current car I have offers nav directions on the HUD. Works great.
Even more shocking. TX is more stringent on cars than CA. Inspection is annual, but a new car gets a sticker good for 2 years. I think they even test drive the car to verify everything works.
Wow, just wow. In TX, you must show your insurance card for an inspection sticker. I also need to enclose a copy of my card when getting license plate renewal by mail. I assume in person you need to show the card. I think I had to show it to get my DL renewed too, but it has been awhile (6 year renewal cycle for DL) so not positive.
In my state, it is called an ag exemption and as long as you work the land, it is valued as farm land. I have known people to keep one cow to lower their prop taxes.
The article claims 16-21' of rain/year and other sources I googled indicated 12 inches. If they really get 16' of rain per year I don't see them having problems. If 12" is correct, I see how they are going to have huge problems.

Steering is now electric in general. No more hydraulic. I am not a fan as the hydraulic I felt had better feedback. There is more of a "rubbery" feel with hydraulic. Even BMW electric steering is referred to as numb. I don't know but does a full EV use hydraulic(brake fluid) for brakes?
About 2/3rds and likely the suicide group would find another way. That still leaves 11K (there are about 33K gun deaths/year). I don't see a problem with allowing guns, but I don't see the reason to allow assault weapons. If I want a tank, can I have one? An RPG? Cannon? One could argue the 2nd amendment should allow me all of those things.

In the 80's I worked in the south bay area of LA (Manhattan, Redondo, Hermosa) and spent around 30% of my take home on rent so I could live in the area. I imagine NYC is also crazy expensive.
I saw a story that the local bus systems spends 10 bucks for every buck it gets in fares. So how far are we from free as it stands. Europe may be different but in the US the mass transit brand is pitiful except for a few cities. People already pay a significant premium to drive.
This. Whenever I see tiny speakers I think no bass.You have to move air for good bass and that means a largish cone. Otherwise that 3" cone is moving 12" up and down and that ain't happening. You can get some advantage with bass reflex and some other tuning methods, but these end up as larger cabinets. Many smaller speakers have a weird hump to emphasize 80Hz to around 160 and hope you think it is deep bass. Of course for apartment dwellers the i-thing will be good as the neighbor will not be moving to the music.
Add about another kbuck for cobalt. Estimate for the 85kwh is about 42 lbs of cobalt which would run about a k. Cobalt trades around 23/lb. Cobalt is actually harder to find than lithium. There may be some other expensive components as well. Not sure exactly what else goes into the batteries.
one difference, in 09 we were on the verge of a collapse like the great depression. Now we are in moderate economic growth. During times like these is when you should start to prepare for the next downturn by reducing debt, not increasing it.

Agree big diff between gross/net. Although in high tax states (well was then in CA) a mortgage unlike rent was deductible at both fed and state level.
