dualcore is pretty much the same as SMP.a program that is not designed for SMP will not be much faster (it will be a bit faster though, because the os will split up different programs to the seperate cores)
linux, windows, and macosx all support smp and should work flawlesly with a dual core cpu. windows may require a reinstall so that the smp kernel can be used, and linux may need a new kernel also depending on what you used, but it's a simple change
i havent seen a cli in 2003 other than the dosish stuff thats been there since 2000, but you can connect remotly with the mmc and to prety much anything, or you can just use terminal services in administration mode which is what i do most of the time
i have a win98SE computer at work thats been up for 177 days straight without a hitch, and i expect it to run for quite a while longer. it runs some software for our large format plotter that wont work on 2k/xp
that sounds like a decent idea, but i doubt it will happen any time soon
i watch and like Enterprise, but because i dont have cable (i don't watch a whole lot of tv) i have to d/l them
first solution was to somehow lock the network cables to the computers?

i have been to LANs w/o net access several times and have played CS: Source, DM, and the single player HL2 w/o a problem at all
steam tries to connect for a bit then asks if you want to go into offline mode, why is everyone having problems with this
they just upgraded their load balancers to take full advantage of the 1000mps pipe they upgraded to recently. and only 7% of users are still on 'slow' servers, things have gotten much better over the past year or so, i just hope this buyout wont affect anything
i bought a Neuros probly a year and a half ago, i use the battery quite a bit, and can still get an easy 5 hours of play time between charges (2 2 hour trips in the car plus some other running around). and that includes a fair amount of skipping around between tracks. i have had buggy firmware, but i was using a beta so thats expected

they are using several different configurations to see which will work out better for what they need, atleast one of which is opteron based.
MacOSX Server has a GUI also, you don't hear anyone complaining about that do you?
they have pretty much, you can chat w/ ICQ ppl from AIM.
that would only give you a binary output, you need alot more flips than that
The Ars System Guide gives 3 levels of systems, all built with resonably good hardware

unless your ISP removes all newsgroup posts larger than a few kb, like mine does
