Building on what a previous poster wrote, if you could implant a RFID chip in your finger, you could use it to select the text on one screen and then snap your finger out pointing at the screen that you wanted to copy to. Dunno how this would work, but it would be cool.
"KDE and GNOME copy Windows because they want to steal market share from MS...IMO, they should be focusing on making the most compelling user experience possible and giving developers a reason to use their environments, not simply trying to copy something they are fighting against."
To use the car analogy again: Since Henry Ford put a steering wheel on the Model T to control the car, does this mean that GM should try to develop an entirely diffrent way to control the vehicle? No. The steering wheel is what the market found, and finds, the most effective interface between them and the car's steering system.
Likewise, the developers of KDE and GNOME probably feel that a taskbar-based system is the most effective and/or popular way of interfacing with one's computer.
Now, I know that MacOS does not have a Windows-OS/2 style taskbar, but that is beside the point since in the OSX interface the features of one of these taskbars is devided between the Dock and the top menu.
It does screw up n00bs on keyboarding..

Not only is art a "peaceful purpose" but if his bacteria is not harmful then isn't he also protected under free speech rights? I'm not American but this doesn't seem to fall under that 'yelling fire in a crowded theatre' example.
Is the government allowed to confiscate tools used to create and distribute messages? Especially in a case like this where the communication is clearly both physically safe (I assume) and political.
It's free speech as long as it's okay with the DOJ.
"MS plays hardball, even MS admits that."
Apple dosen't stop companies from shipping Macs with Yellow Dog Linux installed in place of MacOS. Gates is simply obsessed with total control of the market, no matter what the cost.
Well, you could simply scan the pages from a notebook as image files, insert the pictures into OpenOffice HTML editor, and then convert into a PDF file. It would take some time to do this, though.
For $379, you can get the AlphaSmart Dana, which runs PalmOS. Or you could just get a regular AlphaSmart. Or you could buy an older Mac or DOS laptop off of Ebay. Hell, you could get most anything off of Ebay.
Well, for me 2004 will be another year with RedHat 8.0. Stupid $80 SuSE 8.2 set I got for my birthday hangs on booting on my laptop (Sony PCG-FRV25). The same happens with the 9.0 live eval cd. Damn.
I'm 14 and used to drink coffee every morning before I went to school. So, when I'm on vacation (as I am now), I don't drink it because I feel no need to be up early. So, for about a week prior to christmas, I got really bad caffene headaches. The best thing that you can do is to tough it out and try to take as few drugs (Tylenol, etc) as you can. And drink water, lots of it. It should be about a week before it goes away.
"Microsoft will get scared, and will run towards early launch of XBox2 as a home machine. Failure will spell the fall of Microsoft."
I aggree with that. MS will feel threatened by the failure of the SCO suit against IBM, the success of iTunes music store and iPod, and the PSX's success that they will:
-Develop "Windows Media Player Music Store"
-Release XBox2 early, but not as complete as it would have been
-Create a WindowsCE based harddrive music player
-Release Longhorn early
These will all fail miserably and discredit Microsoft. Also, I think that we will start to see people buying XBoxes, upgrading them with bigger harddrives, installing Linux and using them as cheap servers, which will further hurt Microsoft, since they loose money on every XBox they sell.
And that's what I see on the Redmond front.

What, like a larger, mechanical version of the swarm elements in Prey?
"give MS some money for Xbox"
Actually, MS sells the Xbox at a loss. They make money off of games and XBL.

...because they use Caps Lock instead of shift.

Imagine a virus forcing users to call Microsoft to reactivate their copy?
Yeah, this would produce a real-world DoS attack on Redmond.
I'd add "POE" for better security.
Or "CAP-118."

That's what I thought.
Mein Furher, I can type!
But will the drivers work under Wine ;)
Do ya think that you could make JATO for the model?

You can't spell "fiasco" without "SCO"

I'll bet that some Martian is using it to download p0rn.
