    and for other things it will just fail instead, either forcing you to relog as admin, or to enable admin for your main account

    Right click, select "run as admin". For the few system management apps that don't prompt for admin themselves that's all you need to do. No need to relog or change permission settings.

    Not to mention that Valve knows well enough that Microsoft is working hard to throw as many obstacles between their feet to make Steam as unusable as possible in Windows to promote their own game store.

    I know people like Sweeney have claimed that Microsoft "will" break Steam to promote their own store, but is there actually any evidence that they are doing so?

    Voyager 1 still took the most impressive close-up photographs of Jupiter

    What about the Cassini photos? It took amazing images of Jupiter and Saturn.

    In their shortsightedness, they will say these aren't of great scientific value. A more sophisticated mind understands that the scientific importance of these images was enormous, because it inspire hundreds, if not thousands, to do science as their calling.

    Ahem, NASA put a visible light camera on Juno specifically for "public science and outreach and to increase public engagement".

    The planned end of mission is to crash it in to Jupiter to avoid any possibility of contaminating Europa. If there's any chance this maneuver would cause them to lose control and not be able to deorbit they probably won't attempt it.

    A battery compartment is for removable batteries, and maybe if the Note 7 actually had a removable battery it wouldn't have been such a disaster for them.

    You must be using a slightly different definition of "works", because I can plug my headphones into my Android phone and my Android phone into my laptop without having to buy overpriced adapters and dongles.

  11. Ah, right, I see. My original reply was because 110010001000 suggested working on a docked laptop can be a complete replacement for a desktop PC, my reply wasn't to suggest that you shouldn't have a laptop, just that a desktop has more advantages over laptops than just gaming.

    So instead of my current setup where I have a nice high-powered, multi-monitor PC set up and a cheap laptop for travel work, I should get an expensive laptop and do most of my work on that?

    What exactly am I gaining from spending that extra money to do more work on a sub-optimal computer?

  14. It's not just games that benefit from extra performance - video editing, graphics, 3D modelling and rendering, all those would run better on a desktop. I mean, hell, even coding would benefit from faster compile times.

  18. It might be caching the encryption key on disk during the update to avoid the user having to enter their password to decrypt every reboot (if that's how bitlocker works, I've never actually used it)

    iOS has had its share of remote exploitable root access vulnerabilities over the years, sandboxing (which Android does too) can't stop you once you have root.

    So that would make the last "mass bombings and violence" over 10 years ago, so it would seem the answer to that question is that mass bombings and violence aren't a problem in the UK, and so these security laws are not only morally wrong but completely unnecessary too.

    More than that, get rid of first past the post voting; It strangles 3rd parties. It's no mystery why the house and senate have 10% approval ratings but a 90+% re-election rate when you only have 2 choices. There should be Proportional Representation for the house, Instant run-off for the senate, presidency, and any other election where it's only practical to have single member districts.
