If anything, what I'd like to do is get rid of the damn phone's display. The watch can tell me who is calling or texting, my BT headset can be used to accept calls, and for anything I need a bigger screen for my tablet would be far nicer than some tiny phone screen (even at 7+).
Do you actually carry your tablet with you everywhere? If so why would you need a screen-less phone at all? Surely you'd just use your smart-watch tethered to a 3G tablet instead.
If he used vi this wouldn't be a problem, he'd be able to do all his work just fine over a 300 baud acoustic coupler!
On a serious note I still don't get what the big deal is, as even if for some reason he's not allowed to use obvious things like 3G, surely all he needs to do is co-ordinate things with other wikileaks staff over the phone?
Anyone sufficiently motivated (eg. intelligence services) could desolder the flash chips and get infinite attempts anyway. The question in this case is it better to have a completely secure device that you can't root or otherwise customise, or a device with physical access vulnerabilities that you have more control over.
If ARM wastes more time, Intel will eventually usurp the mobile market by being more "compatible".
Um, what percentage of phone buyers do you think are interested in their phone being a fully open hardware platform? Don't get me wrong I'd love it to exist, but people aren't going to abandon closed-source SoC based phones because of it.
Its Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE) punishes any electronic media communication that incites fear or embarrassment under its defamation article... Posting memes, texts, pictures, or videos would be punishable if found to have a defamatory or slanderous tone.
Right, so it's not banning memes at all, it's banning slander. The fact you can post slander in the form of a dank meme is not the same as banning memes.
White paper bags made of recycled material tend to be fairly flimsy due to the amount of bleach used
This reminds me of the space pen myth (the "NASA spent millions developing a pen that would work in zero G while Russia used a pencil" one), except this time it's Apple spending millions developing a strong bleached paper bag while everyone else uses unbleached brown paper.
I can't speak for all manufacturers, but Google doesn't seem to care if you flash a Nexus, my brother got a warrenty replacement on his rooted N5, all we did was re-flash the recovery images. I bet OnePlus and FairPhone, who also ship with unlocked bootloaders, wouldn't mind either.
Lets be fair here, the Nexus 5 has an unlocked bootloader so unlike most other phones it's trivial to install an alternative OS on the hardware that doesn't include Google ad/spyware, or has additional permission settings that can block most tracking.
McAfee should not have a problem registering a trademark for his company under his name or with his name in it so long as it has nothing to do with anti-virus software.
The "McAfee" trademark is registered under various categories including the "Scientific and technological services" category (code 042), so trying to register "John McAfee Global Technologies Inc" is very likely going to conflict with that.

If we double the price of coal (or coal burning plants) and we sell at the same commission-permitted margin, we make twice the real income!
Actually yes, how about we do double the price of coal and other fossil fuels and see how much the % of energy generated from solar and wind changes?
But then there is the pesky problem of the fact that we have a lot of coal, enough to fuel the US for what, a few centuries at least? Hard to create the illusion of scarcity in that kind of marketplace.
The world coal association claims "There are an estimated 892 billion tonnes of proven coal reserves worldwide. This means that there is enough coal to last us around 110 years at current rates of production".
Notice that important stipulation at the bottom there? at current rates of production? Do you know what happens to that when you add a modest year on year increase in consumption? Please do explain how we can continue to sustain growing energy needs using fossil fuels.
Portraying greedy energy companies as being knee jerk opposed to solar or wind is absurd.
What do you mean "knee jerk"? This has been going on for decades, have you not been paying attention for the last 20 years?
Making money off climate change? How's this for making money - fossil fuel companies receive $14.5 billion in government subsidies every single day (IMF figure). Gee, I wonder who has more financial interest in pushing the climate change debate in a certain direction...

DrXym thinks it's the USA doing it, that's what I was replying to.
Being the most plausible doesn't mean it's very plausible, but it's more plausible than America doing it
The most plausible explanation I've heard so far is it's to break GPS triggered car bombs,
Why would WikiLeaks be out of play? They don't keep their servers in the Ecuadorian embassy, and they have more than just Assange on their staff.

Pretty sure it's meant to say "Founded five years ago", so to be fair it's only 1 letter out. That's better than most /. summaries manage :)

But by that logic why would anyone buy a $700 GTX 1080 when you can game (even VR) on a $200 GTX 1060?
It's when the money sits around doing very little that we have problems.
What?? Since when has leaving money in low risk accounts / portfolios caused any problems?
If it gets billionaires to spend money on science and technology willingly, who cares?
What if it's useless pseudoscience?
Also don't forget ISO paper formats.
The main downside of ISO paper is it would break that stupid printer joke, as "PC LOAD A4" is instantly obvious to everyone outside of North America.

I've also heard that many of the global warming studies don't include the solar cycles the sun goes through as well.
You mean these cycles?

Cyanogen or other custom Android build without gapps installed?
Intel killed McAfee? They only acquired it in 2010, when exactly was McAfee ever good??

On the other hand climate change likely had a large part in the biggest mass extinction's in earth's history. Do you really think we should be playing Russian Roulette with the Earth's climate? Not to mention a) causing millions of deaths from pollution every year, b) funnelling money in to unstable middle eastern regimes and c) using up a resource at an increasing rate that we know is finite and will run out in the future.
