  1. Re:Apparently Works with Vista RC2 - details on Zune Not Compatible With Windows Vista · · Score: 1

Anyone else know if this works?

Sometimes that compatiblity thing does work. I refused to buy a new 40G tape drive to backup a 500M directory. So I installed a floppy drive (also parallel port) based tape drive in WinXP that way with a couple other tricks. A distinctly unsupported device used by an unsupported program in XP that eventually worked. My old backup software refused to even install under XP without the compatibilty turned on.

What kind of equipment do they use that will be acceptable 10-years from now? We got rid of our minicomputer 10 years ago and (finally) moved to PC. If we were still trying to build anything with what we replaced it with (486 and with a pentium 100 server? running dos) I imagine we would have all kinds of IT problems too.

Although the old Wang did run for 10+ years itself, green screens in the SVGA era was kinda depressing. Portable media (13MB) that wouldn't fit in a briefcase. 512k for the entire office to share :)

10 years later we have what would have been supercomputers then and can fit several 40GB tapes in my pocket. I can't imagine having to span that period with one IT plan.

Me thinks they need smaller shorter upgrades in pieces or you never get to the endpoint :( I can't imagine what I would have thought up for a 10-year plan that would have remotely resembled reality, hehe.

Why would we have any higher hopes for cybercrime?!?

Hell we have unenforcable telemarketing/spam laws already. I got an illegal and scamming phone call but i am not able too get the info on where it came from. I am sure they scammed CC from people over the phone. If you do anything other than give them a CC number they hang up. Telco won't even give me a return number to investigate myself, I was thinking of the $500 deal a week before the articles here ;) Police certainly didn't care as i didn't lose anything, nor did the phone co. I tried to track down one that was using an autodialer and message to pitch a obvious credit card scam. I pressed 9 to get a person, between message and person i still had no idea who it was. No one cares that these guys are breaking the law (several of them in WA which is pretty strict). Telephone co won't help and cops don't care unless there is 10k or a body on the line :/ Trying to get help from phone comapny was more frustrating than the scammer calling so..........

Actually i buy virtually no new music anyways. I don't remember the last time a bought a 'new' CD and have only bought a couple new LPs lately. I did buy a bunch of new CDs, as well as used, from ebay but it was store rejects mostly. There is usually a couple good jazz albums in the lots and my buddy likes the free rap ones i give away. Then give the christian rock to my neice and i have made use of 10 albums from a $25 lot.

The 2 most expensive ones lately were a 9 year-old CD popular/rare enough to still go for $25 and a Quad 8-track same thing.

The part about background vs foreground was great. I end up with a bunch of mediocre music thats is good for background when i am in and out of the room etc. Foreground music is mostly my old record/tape collection or a batch of used CDs of classic rock when i am too lazy to clean and flip LPs :)

Vintage music on vintage vinyl on a vintage stereo...least i haven't bought anyone in the music industry a new limo in a while :)

We can talk quality all we like but my twentysomething buddy didn't even notice the music he liked was playing from an 8-track the other day. Ok, i did have 2 12-band EQs and a dolby box hooked up to filter hiss but still ;)
