  2. Battery life. My laptop (t470) gets 20h battery life streaming a youtube video over wifi in windows, and 7h doing the same in linux. I get 6 hours compiling linux kernel in a loop in a linux vm, and only 4 doing the same in linux natively on the same hardware. microsoft has better docs from intel, and until this changes, linux on laptop is only a joke, or for people who do not care about battery life one notable exception: chromebooks, because google also gets ecret intel docs i assume.

    single point of failure - the manufacture code to generate said unlock key. no better than nay other key escrow system - one leak and everyone's got no security.

    There is a way to do it as long as it is 7 days away, but it is rather roundabout. go to clock app. Set alarm for proper time. click "yes" for "repeat". Deselect all days except target day done

    I've been asked by them to unlock my phone. I happily do. Same for laptop. This is because, expecting this shit, I SCP all the things I care about to me home computer before returning to USA and erase my laptop and phone. They are welcome to inspect the "welcome to android" screen on my phone and "no bootable disk found" screen on my laptop.

    Spoken like a person who's never designed battery-powered systems. People do not understand the distinction between backgrounded and killed. You might (perhaps maybe) but the general user does not. Add to this the general incompetence of your average "app" writer, and you're left with hundreds of background threads keeping your CPU wake and making your battery life shit. What android does (and iOS too) is the only sane thing to do when on batteries: do your best to make as few things run as possible. Have special APIs for background tasks that actually need to happen in background (downloading, updates, audio).

    You know, back in the day they published whole doxxing books. One per town (though you could request another town's by mail). In fact many such doing books were shipped for free to everyone. They were white and yellow too, if I remember correctly.

    Am I really the only one who permanently blacklists any website that has "video" news? Video requires 100% of my attention, and probably headphones, to avoid distracting all those around me. It also occurs at your speed. I can read faster than you can talk, and it does not distract anyone around me.
