  1. PPU a repeat of FPU on Ageia PhysX Tested · · Score: 1

    Just as the FPU was once an addon separate from your CPU, I wonder how much longer this so-called PPU will remain an addon separate from your GPU. I imagine that soon we'll have graphics cards with built-in PPUs, or even GPUs with PPUs built into the die as we have FPUs built into CPUs now.

  2. Re:Fiber connections on Dell, HP, Lenovo Announce New Display Protocol · · Score: 1

    Funny... I read 1.65Gbps...

    From http://www.bnoack.com/index.html?http&&&www.bnoack .com/data/DVI-conn.html

    Data is transmitted by the transition minimized differential signaling (TMDS) protocol. The DVI specification calls for at least one TMDS link which includes three data channels (RGB) and one clock control channel.
    DVI Specification 1.0: a TMDS link may operate at up to 165MHz. A single 10-bit TMDS link offers 1.65Gbps of bandwidth. This bandwidth is sufficient for a 1920 x 1080 screen resolution refreshed at 60Hz on a digital display.

    Did it occur to you that it may use hardware lossless compression? 3.5Gigabits can easily be compressed to 1.65gbps losslessly.

    Um, well the patch should be incorporated immediately into the downloadable install ISO, and as such future installations shouldn't have that problem.

    With Windows, I'd have to install, set myself up on the net, wait until I have time to update, wait for IE6 to download, wait for all the drivers to download, wait for all the meaningless crap to download (DirectX, Windows Media Player), then finally get to the new patch to fix the problem, which wouldn't really fix the problem because the log issue happened at install.

    I read somewhere about new poweroutlets that have "Universal AC/DC Adapters" built into them. They looked kind of neat, they had your regular outlets, and a retractable DC cord with multiple connectors on it. That would be much more efficient than distributing 5V around a house.

    Pfft, put this on the Video Ipod. Revert it back to the old non-video display, then when needed use the projector to do video.

    Oh, and um, the color version would do well in a projection TV. 2048x1600 from that small of a box? You could probably manage to get 100 times that res on a projection TV using one of these suckers. Or, a gigantic display wall. 2048x1600 @ 100DPI = 20.48 in x 16 in... a 26" diagonal display. do a 10*10 square of these babies and get a 260" (21ft) display. 100*100 and get 2600" (210ft)!

    Say they cost $10k each, thats "only" $100m for a 210ft high-res display wall.

This is Firefox 1.5 RC3 on Windows XP SP2.

    And um, I believe you mean opening anything with letters in the path which are not standard english characters, for instance something with an é in it. Admittedly yes, Firefox can't handle these well.
