The majority of users that will watch the trailer use Windows, and the market share of QuickTime & iTunes is growing rapidly. It makes sense from a business/marketing standpoint.

And by the way, use Mozilla in Linux and download the Flash Player, it's not that difficult. Same on the Mac.

Where the hell does one find 12x DVD media, anyway? By the time the media of that speed is available, the price of the 12x drive itself will have been cut significantly. Most DVD+R media is available in the 4x variety, with a few at 8x.

  8. Overrated. on CableCARDs and HDTV · · Score: -1, Interesting

HDTV is extremely overrated, just another ploy by the entertainment & TV industry to increase sales by plugging something that isn't even going to be mainstream for another 5-10 years. There's maybe 3 or 4 high definition channels available right now. Is that really worth the extra cost?

And the senators that know nothing about computer security won't even know what hit them once we get the geek types trying to hack into government computers. When the tech people do find out though, they haven't got a huge radius to search to deliver a subpoena for the geeks' laptops. Anyone read Digital Fortress by Dan Brown? I can only imagine what the government could do about these hacker types operating on the government home turf.

You do realize that once Google goes IPO (you know it will happen, sooner or later), the focus of the developers will be less on providing useful content, and more on turning it into another Yahoo or MSN, and satisfying the shareholders. Profit is everything in a situation like this. Right now, Google is in a great position, and I'd hate to see a great search engine system crumble due to the whims of these shareholders.

  18. Amazon is just power hungry like the rest of them. on Amazon's Search Engine Goes Live · · Score: 4, Insightful
You do realize that when you run a search, your results are the same as what you would get at Google, but with that god-awful interface and Amazon ads? Don't mean to be a troll, but there's absolutely no compelling reason to use a9 over Google.

Besides, Google's toolbar lets you save your recent searches anyway, that's nothing new, and it saves you the five seconds that it would take to type "google.com" or "a9.com/..." for you lazy people out there.

The only reason Amazon did this is because they want more people to shop at Amazon and use their search engine (obviously). It's been tried a thousand times before. Google won the preference of millions because the ads aren't obtrusive and they weren't in the business to try to get you to shop somewhere, or join a pay service, or any of that crap that Yahoo and MSN does.

    I'd say Google wins. :)

  19. Re:In my opinion on iPod Mini Design Flaw? · · Score: 1

I was comparing it to the 15GB iPod, you fool. In mass production, of course it's much cheaper than $250 to produce. Go into a store and ask for a 4GB microdrive, they'll charge you $500. Go to the manufacturer directly and request 100,000 of them, they'll cut you a deal.

  20. In my opinion on iPod Mini Design Flaw? · · Score: 0, Interesting

In my opinion, Apple was in too much of a hurry to release the Mini. The regular iPod is a significantly better value. This is just another reason not to buy the Mini.

On iPodLounge, someone took apart their Mini unit, and basically all it was is a small LCD screen, a 4GB compact flash card of some kind (which can't be formatted, people have tried), and the parts to make the scroll wheel work.

    Barely worth $250.
