TFA already points out that there are existing solutions to this problem... sure, they're expensive, but when their example of the finance industry is involved, people will happily pay six, seven figures to get an edge over the competition anyways. If it's not worth the cost, you probably don't need that level of precision. Nice to improve the system, but how much benefit will anyone see from it?
Now all they need to do is stop selling the processors with all cores guaranteed to work and watch sales skyrocket as people buy half a dozen dual-cores in the hopes of getting one that wasn't damaged. And whoever buys the most CPU's every day gets a working one for free...
If you have a full-time job you like and do consulting work on the side, why would you be applying for another job? If you hate your job, it's probably worth a code sample or two to get a better one.
Judge White said at the time, “We live in an age when people can do some good things and people can do some terrible things without accountability necessarily in a court of law.”
Obviously, the ability to do some terrible things without accountability should be reserved for the government.
No, we don't need history to tell. If it turns out to be a miracle cure then he'll have been lucky, but no less a reckless asshole. If you want to practice 'good medicine' you establish that it works safely before you start using it on everyone.
If you're downloading the already-popular ones, chances are someone would have scanned it, commented (if applicable) and stopped seeding anything that actually had a virus. No, it's not perfect, but there's a large gap between that and your computer being one big virus party.
I'm a mother. I've got two daughters. I was circ'ed as a girl, as were both of my daughters. I asked all the questions -- is it necessary, is it recommended, why or why not, etc. I decided to go ahead and I know exactly why I made that choice based on scientific data. If someone else is informed of the scientific data and chooses against circumcision, I fully respect that and have no problem with it. I can tell you that the child displayed little evidence of pain, as I was right there with the doc as it was done, and it heals quite quickly. And no, not "everybody else" does it. The number of uncircumcised females in the US is increasing, actually. You might find the numbers surprising if you have time to look it up.
Every few months when a WoW patch comes out and millions of computers torrent a few hundred MB. Hulk's got nothing on Night Elves.
I see a game about saving an endangered species from being someone's lunch. And a rescue counter. (290/300 made me unhappy.)
A copyright that expires with the author... I'll take Perverse Incentives for $1000, Alex.
Where did you see 'Single-payer or you all die broke' or 'Let the market do its job' in the summary, or TFA for that matter?
Follow the bouncing ball, children.
Because the calculator does the actual work instead of you. You can treat it like a black box and ace a test full of questions you don't understand.

And how many extra shooting sprees are possible because the general population is so heavily armed?
Right. The New Deal and Great Society and Obamacare are exactly like slavery.
It sounds like they could instead just print "example.com/foo" and let you figure it out yourself.
Yes - multiple someones, in this case.

For further reading, see Byte Magazine from April 1991. Surely all good /. readers have a copy somewhere?
Of course. I loved reading Byte when I was five.
They're already working on the Shi'a.
Steve Jobs would like to loudly announce that his competitor's product has a feature he won't ever implement.
No, it also has Extra Punctuation.

The person you'll spend half the game protecting is going to die.

How about "Uncle Tom"?
Does it apply to convicted murderers?
