The problem isn't that Beck and Limbaugh are conservative. It is that they are intellectually dishonest. William F. Buckley was conservative as hell, but you had to admire his intellect, education and ability to present a cogent argument. Beck is a buffoon who uses every logical fallacy in the book. As soon as Limbaugh says, "I don't just make this stuff up;" you know he's just making it up.

I support your idea of using short stories. SF is a genre that has an abundance of very good short fiction. For example, The Nine Billion Names of Gos by Arthur C. Clarke is a classic and on 2,586 words. You can probably find it in a relatively cheap paperback edition combined with several other really good pieces by Clarke or others.

It's a naturally occurring sugar found in legumes and other plants. The name comes from the manna of the Bible, a sweet secretion of sap from some desert plants that contains mannose. It is not metabolized well by humans, so it is used sometimes to provide sweetness without calories. A significant portion of the non-metabolized sugar is excreted in the urine, and mannose has some use in treating urinary tract infections.

Sucrose is a disaccharide (one glucose + one fructose) and is extracted primarily from sugar cane and sugar beets. Other sugars with commercial uses or significance in human biology are lactose, mannose, galactose, and maltose.
