Well, if the warning is on the inside of the CD I don't think it will be enforcable because it is only visible to the consumer AFTER the purchase is made. Any legal implications of a sale should be presented before the sale. That is why shrink wrap licenses should be visible on the outside of the box...not on the inside envelope of the CD. Also, would this mean that places like Amazon that sell CD's online would have to place the warnings viewable to the consumer before they enter credit card numbers??? What about 1-click...would that have to become 2-click because there are legal agreements to click through?

I beg to differ...people are not willing to pay for software...CORPORATIONS are! I think even for small businesses, the price tag on software is way to much to justify the expense...but they purchase it anyway rather than go with something open source. Why?
Since the government is basically the big corporations' bitch, it will do whatever the big corporations tell it to do.
This is not entirely true...big corps can lobby congressman but not judges and juries...this is why the judicial branch exists, so that the checks and balances in the system can iron out any "evil" conflicts of interest. If the law is truly unconstitutional, it will be stricken off the books, eventually.
I don't think this is the message we ought to be sending, that it's OK to root someone's box and nothing will happen to you if the dammage doesn't exceed a certain dollar amount.
The FBI has limited resources and I'm sure that sometimes they need to carefully pick-and-choose the cases they pursue because of this. Remember, these are OUR tax dollars they are preserving by doing this.
Most likely, the were trying to serve some kind of website through the ISP...just a speculation...maybe it had to do with some other illegal activity on the site...or maybe it was pr0n or something. There may have been a conspiracy against the cable provider too...several people working together to host one or several pr0n sites. It was definately more than just casual (or even heavy) Kazaa usage.
FM broadcast may or may not be line-of-site...I am not 100% sure. However, you contradicted yourself in your post...antennas with directional gain, such as a Yagi, are mainly used for LOS communication.
I do not that 2 meters is primarily LOS, which is just slighly higher than broadcast at 150 MHz.
Another thing I am not sure of is whether or not the mode comes into play or not.
Here are my thoughts on how the internet should be governed:
I think there should be an internet "congress" with two bodies...a "senate" and a "house of representatives". The congress would be selected by the governments of each country of the world that has a public internet presence. The senate would have equal representation for each country, and size of the house would be based upon each country's population of internet users.
The governing bodies would meet several times a year to discuss and resolve various issues and creating mandates about how the internet should be implemented. Each country would be individually responsible for enforcing these mandates at their local level.
Something like this is highly unlikely, but I do think that the internet is a global entity that should have global representation.
I remember when Drexel had a handful of MS machines and the rest were mac's, every PC in the dorm was a Mac, labs, etc. Would MS still charge site wide if only a smidgeon of the machines were MS?
I wonder if anyone has ever done a study on the amount of net traffic caused by a virus propagating itself. I would think that viruses that can replicate in exponential fashion will end up generating huge amounts of traffic, even if it is only a small text message and executable. To think of all that wasted bandwidth that could be used for important things like pr0n;-)

Pennsylvania just passed a law that could make telemarketers liable for up to $3000 for each call. The new law allows residents to be placed on a "Do Not Call" list. The list will be made publicly available to telemarkets, and if they make the call then they get zapped with the fine. Here is the press release.
You are preaching to the choir...it seems like the only money you can make in the PC business comes from fixing/upgrading PC's from Dell, Compaq, Gateway and the like. It would be great if all the little PC builders could somehow pull resources to compete against the big guys rather than run each other out of business.
My business deals in such low quantity that it is difficult to even buy parts at less than retail...maybe that is part of the problem.
Will a bill like this hold up to "The Constitution"? Do we not have freedom of press rights granted us via the "Bill of Rights"? Or, does the "Bill of Rights" somehow exemplify child pornography? Or is PA somehow exempt from the "Bill of Rights"? I don't agree with child pornography, I'm just wondering how this will bounce back from a "higher" level?
It would be awesome if he could post some printable patterns with dimensions so that we can duplicate his work. It is great that he could share his work with us...but for those of us who are too lazy or not mechanically oriented, it would be nice to have some patterns.
My dream is to own my own business. That is currently a reality, but I do not make enough money from the business to bring home the bacon, in fact, I make nothing because all of our profit is rolled right back into the biz for supplies, advertising, etc. So, for the time being, I am working full time, which takes away from time I could be using to generate sales. For now, this is a "Catch 22". However, someday I think I will be able to break free of my current position and be self sustaining. Unfortunately, part of the problem is that we picked the "worst" time economically to start our business, which is computer sales and service. So, to make a long story short, I voted "Yes", but someday, I really want to be my own boss.
I think its sad that the show's interest is based upon one particular character's (Mulder) appearance in the show. Personally, I like Doggett, and Rheas (sp?). Sure, they aren't Scully and Mulder, but the change is nice.
I agree with your point about the show never answering its own questions...maybe that WAS just wishful thinking. Who knows...a treat for the last episode???
