    Some people train the Automatic Updates service to ask before it installs. Not to mention the fact that AU seems to check for updates only every two weeks or so...

    Last I heard, SSIDs were case-sensitive.

    Linspot was featured on slashdot. It does more or less what you want. It only runs on Mac OS X, but they are Beta-testing a Linux version.

    Another thing XMMS needs is a new version: 2.0. Even though I've switched to Rhythmbox for it's music library and upcoming iPod support, it would be nice if XMMS had some of these features too.

    A Firefox optimized webpage renders perfectly in Pocket Internet Explorer (With fit to screen turned off).

    Now why can't they do the same thing with mozilla.org?

    Actually, with the exception of the QTVR, the PC version does run on Linux... You just have to do URL hacking.

    Whenever they show an advertisement for the channel (e.g. the bald person with the bird landing on top), they have a transition that looks like the end of an MSN commercial except in purple instead of blue.

    Has anyone else noticed this? Is Sci-Fi Channel run by Microsoft? If so, it might make a good Sci-Fi movie...

    The amusing thing, is that you can go to http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ in Firefox on Linux and it will say:

    Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update software...

    Depending on your connection speed, this might take a minute. During this time, you may receive one or more security warnings. Review each security warning to ensure that the content is signed by Microsoft, and then click Install or Yes to install the software.

    While nothing actually works, except for the Mozilla-customized CSS, it is rather amusing that I can get it to the real Windows Update website without resorting to User-Agent Switcher.

    If you try to go to http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/, it informs me that I need a Windows operating system to use Windows Update.

    I just got the (non-open source) FWD SJphone for Linux working behind my NAT.

    One of the great features of FWD is you can call toll-free numbers in several countries for free, so I've been calling American Airlines's voice-recognition flight status system over and over again (DFW->Frankfurt at 8AM, Flight 73 arrival info).

    The phone number for calling it from FWD is *18004337300, then 1, then 1.

    Lucent modems (such as that with a Thikpad T22) work pretty nicely. Look for the ltmodem driver, it claims to work on 2.6.
