It may very well be unhealthy. Where I take issue with such a statement is that he's making it his life's goal to make such a thing impossible, rather than just telling people that it's unhealthy. This is far past the line that he should not be crossing.
Yeah, when I heard about that WMF security vulnerability, I was up half the night trying to get it working in Wine, so that I could have the genuine Windows experience. But to no avail. It just didn't work. Maybe this patch will fix that?
Your friend is a fine example of a fuckwad. Honestly. Take some responsibility. It's not the game's fault that he got a speeding ticket. And most of all, it's absolutely ridiculous to imply that playing a video game makes you unresponsible for your actions.
Nintendo patented the D-Pad and analog stick as well. Ever notice that the PS2's D-Pad isn't the same design as Nintendo's but as seperate buttons? There's a reason for that, and it certainly isn't gameplay.
Firstly, i think that neither sony or microsoft will relinquish the standard controller designs, even if the revolution is a smashing success. It will never be the standard.
D-Pads? Analog Sticks? "Gimmicky" rumble feature? Shoulder buttons? Come on. If Revolution takes off, PS3 will be introducing a gyroscopic accessory so fast it will make your head spin.

Yeah, that's another thing that I was thinking about. I have always wanted to build myself a media server to do stuff like play DVDs, play music, play Xvid movies, or that sort of thing. But I've been kind of stumped as to how to go about actually controlling the thing. A remote control doesn't offer the power or flexibility that a person would want. A keyboard and mouse defeats the purpose. Web control seemed to be the best option to me. But that would still require a person to control the PC with a laptop or a computer in another room, which is still clunky as hell.
Now a DS on the other hand... is affordable, you probably always have it with you, it has a touch screen, and is perfectly capable of controlling a server. In sleep mode, a DS will last a very long time without a recharge... it's the perfect device for controlling such a server.
Methinks that I have a programming project in the near future.:) (It seems that the UDP library for the DS has been submitted for review... meaning I should probably start coding the basic interface in the next week or two).
Yeah. Being anywhere that's away from your PC... and streaming the music to your DS over a network connection or internet connection. The speakers aren't so great, but when using headphones, the audio quality is quite good.
WiFi for the Nintendo DS is currently in the process of being hacked. After it's done, I can't help but think that this would be among one of the PERFECT homebrew apps for the system, assuming that the device does what I think it does.
The way I understand it, this device streams music from your home PC, and plays it for you, with an interface to change songs. The DS would make a fantastic platform for this, as it has a touch screen and is more than capable of decoding MP3/Vorbis on the fly... 4MB of Memory is more than enough for a buffer as well.
If nobody else develops a client for this for Nintendo DS, I just might be interested in coding it myself, as this is something that has always been #1 in my list of wants for Nintendo DS homebrew. (Although before now, I hadn't really thought about how it should work).
I'm 24 and I can still hear TVs just fine. I find it's not nearly so bad when the TV is playing something, but if it's muted or at a really low volume, it will drive me crazy after a while, and I'll turn it off.
So! Lesson learned (hopefully): even among very similar games, there are differences enough for different people to like different games. Maybe the GP doesn't play multiplayer much because none of their friends like racing games, in which case I would take GT4 any day. (Of course, just as likely its just a little troll at the end of a good point.) And now that I've said to much about not enough.. time to move on.
Yeah, you were right. I don't play racing games such as those in multiplayer, as I consider it to be the penultimate in boring. I do play a fair amount of Burnout and Mario Kart in multiplayer though, as I find the experience is just a whole lot better. There's often a huge skill difference between myself and my friends, and realistic type games don't make a good game for that reason. I crush them instantly, which isn't any fun for anyone. In Mario Kart, you use a blue shell, and stand a fighting chance.
The GameCube racing games are much better than the other consoles. The others could catch up if they stopped focusing on realistic-type racing. Yes there are fantasy racing games for the Playstation but the GameCube racing games blow them away IMO.
It's all a matter of perspective. And for the record, I would rather play Gran Turismo than anything on Xbox, as far as realistic racing is concerned.
Which really seems right insane to me (in Microsoft's case). It just seems like Microsoft wanted to put in lots of big numbers. Sony wants to push Cell through the door, and they wanted a whole lot of computing power. Sony's architecture has always favoured lots of number crunching, as traditionally, their GPU's have been fairly weak or non-existant. Making the CPU required for graphics work. This time, they actually do seem to have included a powerful GPU, making one wonder why they need that much computing power?
Microsoft just seems interested in competing with Sony on every front, regardless of reason.
Nintendo, doesn't see a point in having that much computing power when a GPU is far more useful in an actual game. As a result, they have much less computing power than either Microsoft or Sony, but they seem to have a more powerful GPU than either of them, judging from leaked specs. The leaked specs also indicate a PPU (Physics Processing Unit), which could be used to offload a LOT of work from the CPU, keeping Nintendo on par with the others at a much cheaper price.
Once again, Nintendo is using efficiency to combat their foes. And it's always worked for them in the past. Make no mistake. Nintendo are the MASTERS at hardware design. Seriously, take a look at their consoles sometime. N64 is about the single exception to their mastery. (N64 was an absolute nightmare to code for, as Nintendo wanted to keep smaller developers off the console to increase the quality of games overall. They've eradicated that policy since then, and their consoles are the easiest to code for now).
"Nintendo admits that revolution's graphics will not be as good as ps3 or xbox"
Eh? I recall no such thing. I recall Iwata saying that Revolution's graphics will be indistinguishable from Xbox 360 or PS3. I recall spec sheets clearly stating support for 480p. I recall Iwata saying that Revolution could be hooked up to a computer monitor. At no time do I recall him saying that Revolution's graphics won't be as good. He just said that Revolution's focus is not on graphics, but on gameplay.
I have a new laptop I bought recently that included a bundled Windows XP Home. It's a dedicated Linux box now, and I honestly have no use for Windows on the machine. Maybe sometime in the near future, I can resell the license and get my money back for something I never used?
You know... given how often my PC gets used as a cupholder... I have to admit that there's a certain amount of logic in that. hmmm... time to get to work on making the surface of my PC uneven.:)
With that sort of insider knowledge, I can only assume you work for Blizzard. It's the only thing that makes sense. And given the wording of your post, (mocking the man, rather than just saying no...) Do you work for Blizzard's marketting department?
I don't think I've ever heard it said with quite that degree of arrogance... but rest assured that we think that your money closely resembles monopoly money as well.;)
Still, it's kind of amusing that the US thinks that color coded money is so fake looking... when the US seems to be the last country on the planet to have money that comes in only one colour.
We also have a unit of currency known as a Loonie (dollar coin), and another known as a Toonie (two dollar coin) which are booth in wide circulation.:)
No. It costs a good deal more up there, but they can still get DSL service up there. The problem is that up that far north, there's only one phone company, and they have a complete monopoly. They charge a fortune, but they REALLY want your money (remember, they don't have too many customers), so they actually put in a fairly large (mostly wireless) infrastructure in the far north. But really, when it all comes down to it... it probably does cost just a little more than normal broadband in the US. IIRC, DSL in the far north is something like $60 or $70 per month.
This is why the Xbox community bothers the hell out of me. GBA/GCN/NDS homebrew developers take a great amount of pride in reverse engineering them from scratch and using free tools. Xbox developers think it's perfectly acceptable to use stolen/pirated dev kits.
It may very well be unhealthy. Where I take issue with such a statement is that he's making it his life's goal to make such a thing impossible, rather than just telling people that it's unhealthy. This is far past the line that he should not be crossing.
With a post like that, it's immediately clear you are an expert on the subject of racism.

But what about Swan? I find your theory intriguing, and I would be interested in knowing how she fits into this. :)

Because of course, no game is ever deserving of a 10/10.
Nope. Having an opinion is officially a crime.
