There will always be free players that doesn't require that. And besides, it'll only target another crowd of crackers to make the software read older MP3s. I don't think they are going anywhere with this, but that's just my personal opinion.
Well, it's possible that he could profit from the traffic on the website that users download it from.
I wouldn't be nearly as much as if he sold licenses though. Personally, I'm a little bit Open and Closed source. I use Linux and I love it... I wrote software and I give it away.. but that's only because I feel that the world has a need for it.
Now say I wrote a game. Why would the world have a need to play that? There are plenty of other free Flash games and such. This is where I actually like to sell my product.
Yeah, it varies for MMORPGs of what the game style depends on. At some times, it just depends on luck, while others depends on how much time you put into your character, how you chose to level them up, and your knowledge of how to use which spells at the right time.
"...the reason I don't play a lot of the conventional massive player games is because there's no skill involved in them"
I don't agree with that at all. Even though most of the time in the MMORPG world is spent inducing your time into the time of your character, you still cannot do that without proper knowledge of how to level up your character. Oh sure, you can just randomly pick each spec of where to add your skill points to, but would that be a good idea? Of course not. And besides, later on, you're going to get killed a lot because of the lack of skills that you have.
Oh sure, most MMORPGs rely on how much time is spent playing them... but what you do with that time makes you a better player. Take for example: Say me and Billy (random person) create an EverQuest character at the same time. I have played the game a year before Billy and Billy just got it. So we both make our characters, and we're both at level 10 now. I have a druid and he has a Paladin. He has about 500 more HP than I do... but in a dual, I win. How is that possible? Knowledge!
Knowing how to use your character efficiently and which spells do what is what makes you actually "good" at MMORPGs. Also, knowing where to train to level up, find rare items, etc is essential to the hardcore MMORPG player. With those facts said, you should be able to see how an MMORPG requires skill -- skill of knowledge!
Sorry if I sound like a flame bait, but why Flat Panel? Unless of course that does not mean LCD...
If you're going to go all out with a card like that for the reason it's used for, then you're going to need a more powerful monitor. Yes, you're going to need a CRT monitor. I'm sure a lot of Apple fans will flame me now for saying that, because of Apple's lovely LCD, but it's true. I love Apple though, but it would make me love them more if they started selling beautiful CRT monitors with their PowerPCs.
For this reason, CRT monitors have always had a higher refresh rate than that of the LCD monitor. Oh sure, 40 Frames per Second (FPS) higher than another monitor means nothing if you can save space, right? Wrong. Even the Macs I use at the studio seem to skip a little bit every now and then when I import and edit video, or do something that uses a lot of RAM. Yeah, it has a gig of RAM and an awesome video card, but it sucks that the monitor can only refresh with 60 frames per second with a $500 video card.
I still find it quite hilarious how all LCDs seem to lack behind when playing Quake 3 still.
Please.
Windows ME was a mistake. That is the worst version of Windows. As far as 98 is concerned; that would be a pretty horrible idea to use for gaming, as Microsoft is stopping support for it in April. What use is running an OS to play games if I can get the latest software for everything?
I don't see how! The G5 itself is a very powerful computing system... two of those!? Highly doubtful! That's like a supercomputer! Besides, even if it was true, there is no reason for one console to wheld that much power. I doubt we'll be seeing any games that can actually live up to the spectations of the console anytime soon... it's usually the other way around. Ha, and despite the sheer power of that console, it's running a Windows kernal. That power means nothing if it stand its ground.
Maybe it's all true. Maybe I'm being too hard on Microsoft... but to me, it's like religion. Without proof, I won't believe anything. Not even if I can "feel" it coming. I try to trust my sense of feeling a lot though, but it usually turns out to be just gas.
I think it's a lot more of the "music" that makes teens how social they are, other than the IPod device itself. It could be the same way if you're using Napster's little mp3 player or just a standard CD player.
I've never messed with WineX, but I am going to in the near future. My desktop computer is dualbooted with Debian Linux and Windows XP (for gaming only). Even though it doesn't really effect anything, I feel dirty about having the Win32 platform lurking around in the confines of my harddrive... even though it isn't causing much harm by me running Linux.
Mad propz to Transgaming as I would love to see every thing that Windows has over Linux be ported to Linux. I think this software is a giant leap and will make a lot more people run Linux over Windows. Afterall, the majority of my friends only use Windows because they are hardcore gamers.
Agreed. Although the world may look down upon games like EverQuest and Dark Age of Camelot, it's way more than "just a game" to the rest of us hardcore MMORPG fans.
As you previously stated; when you work so hard for an item -- putting countless number of hours into finding and forging it -- it's a real pain to lose. Not only do you lose something that you value in like and in the virtual world, but you just lose that small portion of your life (the many hours it took you to obtain the item).
I'm an EverQuest fanatic and it's way more than "just a game" to me.
Are you selecting to use a PC, because you want to? Or is that just what you think would work best?
Personally, I think that a Mac would better benefit you in this type of situation, as it is better for video editing, graphics, etc. The Mac's refresh rate just always seems to give that extra kick over the PC. I believe that it is also higher, stock, but I'm not totally sure.
For a PC though, I'm pretty sure you can find some OS that is made for just video editing. Search Google and you'll find a lot of stuff that you never thought existed. You're going to need a great video card and a lot of RAM nonetheless, though!
I've never been a big BSD fan, as I've only used it a few times. I'm more of a Linux person. I truly respect BSD though, and for that, I'm going to be throwing together a box just to install this new version of FreeBSD on.
I feel that it will better help my knowledge in UNIX to learn it. I don't want to dualboot.
Exactly. I have a tendency to move onto other games quite quickly after I've beaten the one I was first playing. I couldn't make myself play that game that much... despite my love for Mario, I don't want to get burnt out on a tradition that is long-lived in my heart. Maybe he couldn't burn out, but I can.
Yeah. Of course we're going to account for the most amount of spam in the world... we're the largest country. It's just Microsoft Windows being on the majority of the computers in the world...
I bet they could if they seriously wanted... but Microsoft has monopolized the world far more than Oracle ever thought about doing.
I say let Oracle have 'em. I'm sure only good can come out of it... as there are a lot of other software developers around. Also, we're sure to see some other company come up to try to defend against them.
I'm not quite sure what Microsoft is going for, but hopefully it's some kind of add-on to their current operating system Windows XP. If Microsoft is ever going to put up against the stability of UNIX, then they are going to have to stop dropping older OSs to make more newer, vulnerable ones.
If this is coming out, then how long is it going to be planned to last? Longhorn was suppose to come out in 2005-2006... and if they keep that date, then the reign of XP Reloaded won't last too long. It'll just be another Windows ME.
Nonetheless, Microsoft is going to need a lot of time to make their Windows less buggy. And well, if all else fails, they should just create an Operating System with a different kernal and name. How about.. MS Fence. o_O
Oh, so he's basically saying that Microsoft Windows will never be secure? Yeah, I could have told him that. Besides, patches heal more holes than they create... so his statement made Microsoft's lovely Operating System look a lot more vulnerable. =/
I'm glad I use Linux. Oh sure, it's been proven true that Linux has more holes than Windows... but which is worse? Windows of course. With Linux, the holes get patched quick... and are relatively small anyhow.. but with Windows, it seems to take Microsoft about 8 months to fix each damn hole. Come on, I know you can do better than that!
Sounds like a great idea. Just make sure to mention the Microsoft Windows Operating System. Windows has caused me more stress than anything I have ever messed with before -- even girls.
I'm not trying to troll -- that's my honest opinion from the stressful point of view. It's not fun at all when you're typing up a long report... and even when you tell Word to save it after every 3 minutes, it doesn't, the OS crashes, and you lose your progress.
Aside from that, I'd probably have to say typos inside of scripts. I hate when I debug and have to go back to fix a lot of things before I can actually run my program. I know that's more of a "me thing," but it's pretty damn stressful.
Also, the unnatural things such as Viruses and Spyware cause a great amount of stress (and anger).
I live in Rome, Georgia, and I have to say that everyone here is switching to Linux nonetheless. Well, not everyone, but my large list of friends. =)
It's a fact that things that piss us off, we do not like to continue to use. And well, you know how Italians are... Sorry Microsoft; better them use a different product than yours, than them holding a Godfather-shootout in your HQ in Redmond.
There will always be free players that doesn't require that. And besides, it'll only target another crowd of crackers to make the software read older MP3s. I don't think they are going anywhere with this, but that's just my personal opinion.

They won't have to with that kind of power! There would be no reason to.
That would be OBNOXIOUS!
If I want to watch my Star Wars, I want to do so without seeing me and my girlfriend in the screen...

I guess it just takes time and effort... which Microsoft never really wants to give out for free.
Sorry if I sound like a flame bait, but why Flat Panel? Unless of course that does not mean LCD...

Haha. More stuff created to make their monopoly larget... yet, it gets cracked so quickly.
Nintendo does not profit from emulation of their games.

Eh, I'm not talking about just size and population... Russia has nothing on us, technology wise.

Haha. More like:
Dear Sun Microsystems, Could you please make Solaris open-source?
I love you, SphericalCrusher
Not that that will ever happen... =/
I deeply agree with the fact that Sun should make Java open source. It can truly make a difference in the open-source market.
