    Democracy doesn't mean the best man wins, it just means the majority is responsible for who they pick.
    Then applying basic Boolean logic and taking into account that Bush didn't win the popular vote in 2000, one concludes that the U.S.A. isn't a democracy. I agree with the conclusion, as it happens, but did you say what you intended to say?

    FWIW, although spam is already cooked, it's vastly improved by frying or barbequeing.

    As an aside, is /. being /.ed today? It sounds silly put like that, but the page loading times seem to be up quite a bit and my attempt to submit this first time got a 503.

    What is truly bizarre is the people who think it's IMPORTANT to vote. Personally, my vote is for nobody.
    So if you don't go to the polling station and submit an empty ballot, how do people know that you're protesting rather than apathetic?

    Of course, if you believe that the "will of the people" is real and that it is determined mathematically by the vote, then the vote counting technology is just plain wrong.
    If you don't believe that the "will of the people" is real then you may as well have a monarchy. If you do believe that it's real then while a popular vote may not reflect it accurately, what reflects it better?

    Since it's the weekend there seems to be a dearth of mods, making this the perfect time for a grammar Nazi to give a lesson in the subjunctive mood. It is used to express a hypothetical. The third person (feminine) imperfect subjunctive of "to be" is "she were".

    Why start and use things that you don't need? No printer, why CUPS or lpd? No SMB network, why samba? Do you really need/want Apache, MySQL, pcmcia services (on a desktop), etc, etc, etc, if you just want a fast running machine? Nope.
    That's why when I installed my Debian system I didn't tell dselect that I wanted them. Why have them cluttering up my hard drive if I never use them?
